There it is again... Solitär let out a soft laugh.
Since meeting this human beside her, she had often heard from Fíliya's lips many wild, impractical boasts. At this point, she couldn't even be bothered to point out just how unrealistic Fíliya's words were.
Considering the gap in power between herself and Fíliya... if the day truly came when even she faced her end, what means could Fíliya possibly use to save her? Honestly, Solitär couldn't imagine such a future at all.
Yet for some reason, she felt an impulse to believe, to experience, just once, such an irrational, blind faith.
"Is that so... Then I shall thank you in advance, Fíliya. Thank you for coming to save me."
Solitär's tone was calm, her face bearing the same tranquil smile as when she and Fíliya first met.
"Hmm, it's rare for you to be so direct with your thanks, Solitär. How could I not accept it?"
As Fíliya spoke, she shuffled a little closer to Solitär's side.
At such a close distance, their gazes met, and each could see the color of the other's eyes.
Fíliya... aside from those golden pupils, this human really is so much like me, ah...
The same long green hair, the same peculiar nature... if one were to disregard the difference in their ages and races.
This girl is almost like my own younger sister... Hmm, but in the human world, are there younger sisters who are taller than their 'older sisters'?
Solitär's gaze shifted to Fíliya's body, and she shook her head slightly.
She was satisfied with most things about Fíliya, except for the fact that Fíliya was a head taller than her—something she always found hard to accept. In her view, a 'powerful being' like herself should be the one to enjoy looking down on others.
Besides, Fíliya was not yet 19. Following the human growth trajectory, there was even a chance she might grow taller... As an expert on humans, Solitär was well aware that they could continue to grow until the age of 23.
Hmm, is there any magic in this world that can stunt growth, or even make someone shorter?
In that moment, Solitär couldn't help but think that if such magic existed, she should find an opportunity to use it on Fíliya, to prevent the girl from constantly committing the disrespectful act of resting her chin on top of her head.
...All sorts of wild thoughts filled Solitär's mind. Just then, she suddenly recalled a piece of 'advice' from a distant age.
A human girl with long green hair and golden pupils... Yes, why am I only remembering this now?
Her eyes widened slightly as she stared, lost in thought, at Fíliya's face.
"Hm? Solitär? What's wrong? You suddenly spaced out."
Fíliya quickly noticed the shift in Solitär's mood and watched her with curiosity.
"...I just remembered a prophecy from an acquaintance."
Solitär came back to her senses and spoke slowly.
"A prophecy... a prophecy, huh. Tsk, that 'All-Seeing Schlacht'?"
Without needing to think much, Fíliya already knew that such a figure had existed among the Demon Race.
Of course, this confidant of the Demon King, a wielder of Future Sight, had long since perished along with the Hero of the South.
Now, what kind of prophecy could that long-dead greater demon have left for Solitär? And judging by Solitär's expression, did this prophecy have something to do with her?
Fíliya's curiosity grew more intense.
"Yes. That man said... that in the not-too-distant future, I would encounter a human girl with long green hair and golden pupils."
Solitär said slowly.
"Eh? Doesn't that match perfectly? That's me... Ah, prophecies really are so boring."
Fíliya pouted.
"Why do you say that?"
"There's no why... Just think about it, Solitär. If you knew in advance what was going to happen in the future, wouldn't that be incredibly dull?"
"Dull?"
Solitär blinked blankly. She hadn't expected Fíliya to say that at all.
"Yes, dull. If you were to ask what magic is the strongest in this world, it might be hard to say. But if you were to ask what magic is the 'most boring,' I'd have to cast my vote for the magic of Future Sight."
Fíliya spoke with a serious expression, even standing up to once again look at the moon.
"Honestly, it's a very good thing that Schlacht and the Hero of the South took each other out. With both of those who could see the future dead, the interesting sparks of possibility have been scattered across the world again. of possibility have been scattered across the world again."
Fíliya said this with an excited look, clearly not thinking her words were terrible in the slightest.
Fíliya's words also offered Solitär a new perspective. After a moment of thought, she realized it too: for All-Seeing Schlacht to take the Hero of the South down with him... was truly an outcome that both humans and the Demon Race could accept.
If those two high-level combatants who could see the future hadn't died together, who knows how much longer the war between humans and demons would have lasted... Perhaps even the outcome of the 'Demon King being killed' would have changed.
...?!
In that instant, it was as if Solitär realized something else.
Could it be?
A possibility occurred to her.
Did All-Seeing Schlacht and the Hero of the South have a tacit understanding, foreseeing the same future, and thus chose to die together by mutual agreement?
A great demon and a human hero, dying for a common future.
Such a guess was far too...
"Hah..."
Thinking this, Solitär took a deep breath, temporarily suppressing her thoughts. She then pulled Fíliya back down, signaling for her to stop fidgeting.
Fíliya obediently sat down again as Solitär instructed.
"That being the case, do you still wish for me to continue, Fíliya?"
Seeing that Fíliya disliked prophecies, Solitär hesitated, wondering whether she should tell the girl the rest.
But Fíliya immediately replied.
"Hmmph. If anyone else were trying to tell me my 'destiny,' I'd definitely cover my ears. But since it's you, Solitär, I suppose I can force myself to listen."
Fíliya huffed, putting on an air of 'I'm being very magnanimous.'
This attitude earned her another eye-roll from Solitär.
"Schlacht said that this human girl I would meet is shrouded in a shadow that even he could not fully read... He only knew that this human girl would influence the future of the Demon Race. As for in what direction, he was unable to read it in detail."
After Solitär finished speaking, Fíliya immediately gave a look of disgust.
"Huh? That's all the 'All-Seeing' one had? That's the same as saying nothing! Get out of here with your riddles!"
...Fíliya's words left Solitär somewhat at a loss.
She, of course, knew how powerful her old colleague Schlacht's foresight was, but if even Schlacht couldn't fully read Fíliya's future, could that only mean...
...that Fíliya was truly something special?
"Schlacht told me one more thing."
Solitär continued to watch Fíliya.
"Hm?"
Fíliya looked back at Solitär.
"He told me that, to prevent such a vague and uncertain future from coming to pass... it would be best for me to kill this green-haired, golden-eyed girl the very instant I met her."
