Chapter 82 - So You Weren't Angry

Several days had passed since they explored the labyrinth.

It was a night of brilliant starlight.

Since this morning, Fíliya had been busy with one thing.

In the camp they had temporarily set up, a Golem lay disassembled, its parts scattered and piled on the ground.

This was because Miss Fíliya was attempting something.

She thought to herself, since she already knew this type of Golem had other models, why couldn't she modify this "combat type" into a "housekeeping type"? Besides, she wanted to taste for herself whether a housekeeping Golem's cooking was any good.

Fíliya had a fiery and impetuous personality; the moment an idea struck her, she would almost immediately act on it. Thus, a whole day passed for her in the blink of an eye, vanishing in an instant.

"Fíliya, you haven't eaten anything all day."

Strangely enough, the one who came to urge Fíliya to eat wasn't Solitär, but Aura.

As for why things unfolded this way, it was probably because... Fíliya had already turned Solitär down many times today. Each time Solitär placed food beside her, Fíliya would give a perfunctory reply and then not touch it at all.

After this happened several times in a row, even Solitär, who was exceptionally indulgent toward Fíliya, had grown a little irritated and couldn't be bothered to bring her food anymore.

It couldn't be helped; when Fíliya got serious, she would forget all about eating and sleeping.

Fíliya looked at Aura's face.

She saw Aura nervously place the food in front of her, then quickly run away as if she were afraid of something.

This Aura is quite a strange one.

Fíliya thought to herself that she sometimes couldn't understand what was going on in the head of this particularly human-like member of the Demon Race.

But Fíliya had also noticed that ever since she returned the Magic of Obedience (Auserlese) to Aura, the demon had become even more attentive and proactive than when she was a maid at the abandoned shipyard.

Aura, you adorable thing.

"Speaking of which... I really am hungry."

The moment her concentration wavered, Fíliya immediately felt the gnawing pangs of hunger.

And so, she quickly devoured the food Aura had brought.

...Looking at the Golem she had dismantled into a pile of pieces, Fíliya wore a gratified expression. She had already figured things out; with one more day at most, she could successfully transform this "combat type" Golem into a "housekeeping type."

Of course, Fíliya knew this sort of thing would do nothing to increase her own power. But she just wanted to do it, not for any practical reason—the fact that it was interesting was reason enough.

In the world of magic, "interesting" is the most compelling reason of all.

Having filled her stomach, she quickly threw herself back into the work of modifying the Golem. The two demons, long familiar with her temperament, didn't bother her again. Fíliya simply immersed herself in her art, completely oblivious to the world around her.

It wasn't until her eyelids began to fight each other and she could no longer continue working that Fíliya casually lay down on the grass, ready to sleep.

Of course, before closing her eyes, she didn't forget to cast a spell on herself to "prevent insects from approaching." After all, they were camping in the wild. If she were to pass out just like that, who knows what kind of bites she would wake up with.

Fíliya found it strange. Although she was utterly exhausted, she didn't fall asleep the moment she closed her eyes. It was as if her subconscious was still fantasizing about something. In this state, halfway between waking and dreaming, Fíliya sensed a humanoid creature slowly approaching her.

She felt no hostility from this being, so her defensive reflexes weren't triggered.

She just felt something warm being placed over her.

"Solitä...r?"

She asked groggily.

"It's Linie... Lady Solitär told me to put this blanket on you."

Linie's voice reached Fíliya's ears.

Although it wasn't the person she was expecting, it was still heartwarming enough.

Solitär, so you weren't angry after all.

After confirming this, as if she had finally received some reassuring information, Fíliya slowly drifted off into dreamland.

...For most of the next day, Fíliya continued her work on modifying the Golem.

Just as she had predicted, as the sun set on the second day, Fíliya finally presented her results to the three demons in the afterglow of the sunset.

Aura and Linie had clearly noticed Fíliya's secretive demeanor, but after exchanging a glance, the two demons tacitly chose to ignore it.

Solitär and Linie looked completely disinterested, but they still gave a perfunctory round of applause.

Aura, on the other hand, was clearly delighted.

Because she thought, now that there's Linie and this "housekeeping type" tin can, she should be completely free, right?

Even when this journey ends and they return to that big house, the one cleaning rooms and doing chores will no longer be her.

Hooray! Three cheers for the big tin can!

With a smile on her face, Miss Aura gave the tin can before her high praise.

Fíliya, too, was very satisfied with her creation. The size of this "housekeeping type" Golem was now several times smaller than the combat type.

The combat Golem's dimensions of four meters high and five meters long had been changed by Fíliya to two meters high and two-and-a-half meters long.

After all, without reducing its size, it would be difficult to use "at home." Not everyone can have a large house. When these Golems can be mass-produced in the future, the priority, of course, would be... to get them into ordinary people's homes. Though such a future is probably still a long way off, Fíliya thought.

Fíliya and the three demons sat around the campfire and began to admire the housekeeping Golem's performance.

It had to be said, having four arms was incredibly useful. The four arms on the Golem's body didn't look the least bit uncoordinated.

Two hands chopped vegetables while the other two cut meat. When it started cooking, two hands tended to the pot while the other two added seasonings.

Just like that, the Golem quickly prepared dinner, and all four living beings present expressed their approval of its culinary skills.

When it was time to disperse, Fíliya ordered the Golem to shut down and rest, then she quietly followed Solitär.

Once inside Solitär's tent, Fíliya immediately put on an appeasing expression and sat down next to her.
