Chapter 151 - The Thousand-Year Lazy Dog

Morning always came faster than expected. Fíliya felt like she hadn't been lying down for long before the next day arrived.

Thus, she could only open her slightly fatigued eyes and let out a deep sigh at the person beside her pillow.

After all, the elven great mage—Miss Frieren—was currently sleeping in an extremely poor posture, with one leg draped over Fíliya.

"Fern must have it really tough..."

Fíliya murmured subconsciously. Although Fern had warned her that Frieren was troublesome, she truly hadn't expected Frieren to be troublesome to this extent.

Fíliya thought she was already the antithesis of a lady, but she hadn't expected someone even more bold.

Frieren, can't you do something more ladylike? Look at your sloppy sleeping posture... A lot of people would be disillusioned!

After silently complaining in her heart, Fíliya finally moved Frieren's leg off her body.

Next, she finally had the chance to properly observe this elf's sleeping face.

Fíliya saw that Frieren's face seemed to carry a faint, silly smile, as if she had encountered something delightful in her dream...

"Mm... a dream?"

Fíliya's eyes suddenly lit up with the impulse to probe into Frieren's dream, but after a moment's thought, she gave up the idea. After all, there was important business today... and ruining such a happy sleeping face would be too cruel, so she'd let her off, Fíliya thought.

Next, Fíliya's gaze naturally shifted elsewhere, landing on Frieren's fair shoulder. Fíliya quickly adjusted the slipped strap of Frieren's nightclothes.

After finishing that, she looked at Frieren's silver-white long hair, spread like spider silk across the pillow.

She subconsciously reached out, pinched a strand, and played with it between her fingertips.

Fine, silky... and with an enviable amount of hair. She never even saw this girl take care of it... Is this the elves' innate [benefit]?

With that thought, Fíliya finally grew interested in further research. She got out of bed, walked to the window, and yanked open the curtains.

"...Ugh... uh..."

Frieren on the bed immediately curled into a ball, tangling herself with the blanket. She buried her head completely inside, clearly avoiding the morning light.

Such a child... Getting out of bed is this troublesome? Fíliya sighed again and returned to Frieren's side.

Then, she grabbed the edge of the blanket and yanked it off with force.

"Ugh... Fern, let me sleep a bit more... just five minutes."

Frieren's face was full of sleepiness; she wouldn't even open her eyes.

What is this girl doing? Your Fern is next door... Still dreaming?

Seeing this, Fíliya stopped pretending to be gentle and simply yanked Frieren upright.

But unfortunately, Frieren immediately shrank back like a slime.

In the end, Fíliya had to expend great effort to finally get Frieren to sit up.

Now Fíliya finally understood what Fern meant by [time to make you suffer].

Frieren... You're a thousand-year-old great mage, yet you're more like a thousand-year-old lazy dog... Good thing Himmel never confessed before dying; otherwise, married life would have been a disaster...

Fíliya thought helplessly. Though she had just told a very rude hell joke inadvertently, Miss Fíliya felt no burden in her heart; after all, it was just in her mind—no one would hear it.

Just then, familiar footsteps sounded outside the door, followed by a knock. But to Fíliya, the knocking sounded strange.

So she quickly went to open the door.

"Fíliya, is Frieren awake?"

It was naturally Fern. Even without sharing a room, she habitually fretted over Frieren. The clean towel draped over her arm and the basin of hot water in her hands said it all.

"Half-awake? Still pretty groggy."

Fíliya replied, also understanding why the knock had sounded odd—Fern's hands were full, so she had kicked the door.

"As expected. I prepared everything; you help Frieren wash her face... After all, you volunteered to bring her into the room, so take responsibility to the end."

Fern said with a light smile.

"Uh... somehow your words sound a bit weird, Fern. Easy to misunderstand."

Fíliya complained but didn't forget to quickly take the basin and towel.

"Eh? Do they? I don't think so..."

Fern blinked blankly, her expression very cute.

"You miss so many things... Alright, I'll handle this troublesome elf. Once she's sorted, we'll head to the Magic Association to check things out."

"Mm."

Fern nodded and stepped back, so Fíliya returned to the room.

"Frieren, time to get up. Come wash your face."

Fíliya said, soaking the towel in water. Once it was fully saturated, she wrung it to semi-dry with just the right force, then wiped Frieren's face.

"Ugh..."

Frieren still didn't open her eyes but didn't resist either. She just silently leaned her head on Fíliya's shoulder, murmuring something unintelligible.

After about a minute, once Fíliya finished washing Frieren's face, Frieren finally seemed a bit more awake.

"It's... you, Fíliya. Where's Fern?"

Frieren rubbed her sleepy eyes, looking at Fíliya groggily.

"Lost your memory? We slept together last night."

Fíliya explained helplessly.

"Oh... yeah, seems like it."

Frieren nodded belatedly.

What a slacker... no, slacker elf.

Fíliya could only shake her head at Frieren's state.

"Now that you're awake, you can dress yourself, right?"

Fíliya probed.

"Of course. Don't underestimate me."

Frieren pouted, looking displeased.

"o(⌒^⌒o#)"

"Good, I don't want to really take care of a stinky kid... What about your hair?"

"You do my hair, like Fern always does."

Frieren finally showed a hint of shyness here, clearly feeling embarrassed about being cared for by a human girl.
