Chapter 3 - first step

as ray looked at the photo with a silent intensity, his hands were trembling and his lips twitching though filled with speech. as small smiled formed on his face ''I chose this path yet I'm scared, it seems I can no longer keep this fortitude of courage''

a sigh could be heard, ray stood up walking to the door, setting the picture on the table. his hand hovered over the bronze knob, he twitched ''I can't do this'' he walked back sitting once more,he eventually laid on his back down on the bed, his hand on his face ''I... I- I'm tired'' with those words ,ray went a drift in thought, eventually his eyes closed .

the last light laid on the curtain, after a few moments that light slowly diminished on the curtains, more time passed as after a while ray's eyes open in a blink. his eyes took time to adjust , after a moment his eyes

rapidly scanned around the room.

a sigh was released ''it's dark, nothing i can do now. maybe i should go back to sleep'' his lips were left open as they eventually closed, '' nothing i can do '' a rumble sounded in ray's direction.

ray instinctually lightly touched his abdomen, he already up walked to the window and drew the curtains to the side ''the food sellers left, should i go the bar, but they are expensive'' ray's eyes wondered side to side as he was in thought.

he walked over to the bed and extended his arm under the bed, he retrieved a bag that was filled with metals hitting each other. it seemed to be a pouch filled with coins, with this ray stood up and walked to the door.

he twisted the bronze knob and walked out, he looked around in the narrow corridor there was no one in view. he walked over to the corner of the narrow corridor, walking down the straight black oak stairs, ''if i one day get enough money, i just hire servants for this''. he reached the bottom , in his view was the reception's desk on the corner, every patron passed it when either entering or leaving the inn. ''still don't get why a small inn has a reception''.

his view shifted at the the under the stairs, the door had a sign 'bar' it spelled. ray entered same with some other patrons, his eyes scanned the scene: round tables and seats every where ,the long and rectangular bar's table on the edge .

ray strolled over to the bar's table ,inside the table was a middle aged man bartender reading a novel 'that'' the trending novel i heard about. ha that's new it seems, a bartender reading', he scanned once more around , this round he view many people, some drinking and chatting on the round tables, others playing cards and playing with darts.

'viewing this, i guess a bartender reading a novel shouldn't be surprising ',he looked back at the middle- aged bartender ''sir, do you sell something to eat''.

the bartender didn't even look at him , as the man spoke '' brown bread is 2 dimes, white bread 1 copper, carrots and potato soup 3 dimes, dried meat jerky at 1 nickle, 4 dime and 1 copper and only one drink, goat's milk at 4 dimes i think, I really check'', ray is a bit surprised at the prices, '3 dimes for soup and milk is a bit much, a bit much, when did I start saying that. doesn't matter at this moment though', ray looked at the bartender'' one brown bread and the goat's milk'' ray puts two shiny coins on the table, one sturdy and rough as it is brown as mud , though the other a sparkling copper coin.

the bartender put the book away as he picked up the coins and shouted ''mama jay, i brown bread and goat's milk'' his was heard around the bar but no one flinched nor moved.

'mama jay, jay is that a woman's name or does she have a son' drifted in thought as his view glimpsed a young boy carrying a tray of beer and bread , after a few moments the young boy came to ray and gave him a piece of brown bread which was sturdy and rough and a glass filled with thick white liquid.

it seemed the food arrived. ray was surprised at the young boy's timid and anxious attitude and domineer, 'ha, they give anyone a job this job, a boy like that won't survive long '.

ray looked around and saw some patrons, especially the men looking at the gentle boy with dirty looks and lustful thought, some made excuses to call the boy over. the timid boy looked around, he moved around as many called on his attention .
