Chapter 146 - 146

Ding!

Congratulations to the host for acquiring a new Devil Fruit ability.

Thread-Thread Fruit successfully integrated.

Current Fruit Level: Level 1 (1/10)

Unlocked Skills:

Parasitic Threads – Invisible, transparent threads can be attached to a target's limbs or neck, allowing full control of their movements like a puppet. Can control a single target or multiple targets simultaneously. Sky Path – By anchoring invisible threads to clouds or tall structures, the user can move at extreme speed through the air, creating the illusion of flight. Five-Color Thread – Five fingers release ultra-tough, razor-sharp threads capable of grasping, slicing, or restraining enemies.

Elric's eyes widened slightly as he absorbed the information. Even at just Level 1, the abilities were formidable.

"Control and mobility right from the start," he murmured, flexing his fingers experimentally.

Thin, nearly invisible threads emerged from his fingertips, extending outward like spider silk. They responded to his thoughts with perfect precision, weaving through the air before retracting back into his hands. He could feel their sharpness, their tensile strength—these weren't ordinary strings. They could cut through steel if he willed it.

The Parasitic Threads ability was particularly valuable. Complete control over another person's body, turning them into a living puppet—it was both a combat technique and a tool for absolute domination. Combined with his Mirror World abilities, the tactical applications were endless.

And Sky Path... the ability to traverse vast distances by swinging through the air using threads anchored to clouds or structures. Essentially, he could fly.

A satisfied smile crossed Elric's face. The Thread Fruit was everything he'd hoped for—versatile, deadly, and perfectly suited to his management style.

A soft footstep behind him broke his concentration.

Elric turned to see Emily standing in the doorway, her expression cautious but filled with unmistakable longing. She had cleaned up beautifully over the past few days—her long hair was neatly brushed, and she wore one of the new outfits provided by the system. But more than her appearance, it was her eyes that had changed.

The innocence that might have once existed there was gone, burned away by betrayal and bloodshed. Now, those eyes held only determination and hunger—hunger for power, for security, for control over her own fate.

"Was that... a supernatural fruit you just ate?"

Her voice was respectful, almost reverent, but beneath it was a burning question: Can I have that power too?

Elric regarded her for a moment, then smiled faintly.

"As long as you perform well," he said calmly, "I can give you powers far stronger than any so-called superpower."

Emily's breath caught in her throat. Her hands trembled slightly at her sides.

She didn't doubt him for even a second. After everything she'd seen—the floating sky island, the Mirror World, the impossible resources he commanded—she knew he was telling the truth.

But she also understood the implication. Devil Fruits were limited. Precious. Only those who proved their loyalty, usefulness, and absolute obedience would be rewarded.

She would have to earn it.

"I understand," Emily whispered, bowing her head slightly. "I won't disappoint you."

Elric nodded, already turning his attention back to his own cultivation. "Good. Now go. I have work to do."

Emily hesitated for just a moment, then left quietly, closing the door behind her.

Three Days Later

Time passed peacefully within the floating air base.

While the outside world remained a chaotic hellscape of mutants, toxic fog, and crumbling shelters, life inside the sky island was almost idyllic.

Elric spent his days in comfortable leisure, rarely venturing beyond the boundaries of the base. There was no need to. Everything he required was already here.

He watched films in the system's private cinema—a luxurious theater room complete with reclining seats and a vast library of pre-apocalypse movies.

He fished by the sky lake, a tranquil body of crystal-clear water that somehow existed on the floating island, stocked with fish that had never known pollution.

He monitored the shelter's development remotely through the system interface, watching as supplies accumulated and his territory expanded.

And most importantly, he trained.

Every day, Elric practiced with his Thread Fruit abilities, slowly pushing his mastery to new heights. He learned to create threads so fine they were invisible even in direct sunlight. He practiced anchoring them to distant points and swinging through the air with Sky Path, moving faster and more fluidly with each attempt.

No new adopters were brought in during these three days, which allowed his resource reserves to grow steadily. Supplies piled up. Food stocks increased. Weapons accumulated.

Everything was progressing exactly as planned.

There had been one loose end—the music academy girl he'd contacted days earlier. She had seemed interested, even desperate, but she never arrived at the meeting point. Her messages had stopped entirely.

Elric didn't pursue it.

If someone missed their chance, that was their problem. He had no shortage of potential recruits. The wasteland was full of desperate survivors who would kill for an opportunity like this.

Air Base Laboratory

On the afternoon of the third day, Elric decided to check on Elizabeth's progress.

He entered the pristine laboratory—a state-of-the-art facility provided by the system, equipped with advanced research equipment that would have been priceless even before the apocalypse.

Elizabeth stood near a workbench, adjusting a microscope while making notes on a digital tablet. She wore a crisp white research coat, her hair tied back in a practical ponytail. The moment she noticed Elric enter, she shot him an annoyed look.

"Can you stop coming here?" she said sharply, not bothering with pleasantries.

Elric raised an eyebrow, amused.

"Can't you find another place?" she continued, her tone dripping with irritation. "This is a laboratory. You're contaminating the air."

Despite her harsh words, Elric noticed the faint flush creeping up her neck and coloring the tips of her ears.

He smiled slightly. Elizabeth had returned to her usual sharp-tongued, rational self—but underneath that prickly exterior, she was still adjusting to everything that had happened between them.

"Relax," Elric replied casually, leaning against the doorframe. "I'm just checking on your progress. How's the research coming along?"

Elizabeth huffed, turning back to her instruments. "Fine. Better than fine, actually. With this equipment, I can accomplish in days what would have taken months in the old world."

She paused, then muttered under her breath, "...At least try to act like a researcher when you come in."

Elric's smile widened. He enjoyed these moments—the way Elizabeth tried to maintain her professional dignity even while her composure cracked at the edges.

"Noted," he said. "I'll try to be more 'scientific' next time."

He lingered for a few more minutes, observing her work before finally leaving her in peace.

As Elric walked back through the sky island, he felt a deep sense of satisfaction.

The air base was running smoothly. The shelter below continued to grow. His personal strength was increasing daily.

And most importantly, the Azure Dragon Fruit was nearing maturity.
