Chapter 86: Using Her Medicine to Do Her Task
Xiao Yuan flipped his hand and took out a packet of knockout powder.
This was a potent tranquilizer concocted by Little Doctor Fairy, strong enough to easily incapacitate second-rank magical beasts—and even third-rank beasts would be affected.
While Xiao Yuan could try sneaking past the two third-rank magical beasts guarding the entrance, it would be safer to deal with them now, ensuring a smoother exit later.
With that thought, a green wind spiral surged into his palm.
He threw the powder-filled packet forward, then hurled the wind spiral after it.
Under the spinning gust, the packet exploded midair, releasing a cloud of powder into the air.
The two magical beasts, still trembling from the intimidating auras clashing in the sky, inhaled the powder without noticing.
By the time they realized something was wrong, dizziness was already clouding their minds.
In that moment, Xiao Yuan flashed forward and appeared between them, both hands shrouded in black and white flames.
Borrowing the power granted to him—close to that of a Da Dou Shi—and relying on the terrifying heat of his Heavenly Flame, Xiao Yuan directly drove his hands into the beasts' skulls.
They were no Amethyst Winged Lion King—no terrifying crystal armor to shield them.
After a few spasms, the two third-rank beasts collapsed, dead on the spot.
When Xiao Yuan withdrew his hands, a flash of joy crossed his eyes.
One of the beasts had dropped a magic core!
He happily pocketed the core, then extended his soul perception as he stepped into the cave.
Inside, the lighting wasn't as dim as expected. Purple crystal clusters naturally formed along the walls, giving off a gentle glow. In human society, these crystals were precious decorative stones, highly valuable.
Xiao Yuan casually plucked a few and tossed them into his ring. Sensing the rising warmth from the crystal against his chest, he pressed deeper into the cave.
After traversing a long tunnel, he came upon a fork.
He walked a few steps down each side, comparing the changes in the crystal's warmth, and ultimately chose the right path.
Soon the tunnel opened up, and he found himself in a vast cavern glowing with purple light.
His eyes narrowed as he scanned the crystal-filled cave.
When his gaze landed at the center, it stopped—there, a small-sized Amethyst Winged Lion King lay asleep on the ground.
Frowning, Xiao Yuan knew he had to find a way to knock it out.
Killing it was not an option.
If he killed the cub, the parent would definitely sense it. If the elder Lion King went berserk, he'd be swatted dead in an instant.
Though confident in his own strength, Xiao Yuan knew he couldn't take a direct hit from a creature on par with a Dou Huang.
So, without hesitation, he chose to drug it again.
He pulled out another dose of Little Doctor Fairy's powder and grinned slightly before concealing his presence and tiptoeing into the cavern.
The sleeping cub, sensing no danger from this insignificant presence, continued to snore peacefully.
Xiao Yuan crept closer, opened the packet, and blew into it—green Dou Qi fanning the powder straight into the cub's nose.
Roar!
Its eyes snapped open, but it saw nothing. Only a strange smell irritated its nose.
Xiao Yuan, hidden behind its rear in a blind spot, remained perfectly still.
The cub blinked in confusion, then suddenly grew sleepy. After wobbling a bit, it collapsed to the floor.
Seeing this, Xiao Yuan immediately leapt out, flipped his hand, and pulled out a beast-binding rope. In one motion, he hogtied the cub and tossed it to the side.
Then he retrieved the diamond-shaped crystal from his chest and began probing around the cave.
Soon, he crouched down near the spot where the cub had been lying, tapping lightly on various purple crystal slabs.
When he tapped one stone near the edge, the hollow sound that came back made his eyes light up.
He pried the stone open—blinding purple light burst forth, making his eyes sting.
He quickly activated his black-and-white flame vision. The pain vanished, and he saw a jagged, fist-sized Amethyst Spirit Crystal, glowing naturally with brilliance.
The instant it appeared, the crystal he carried became scorching hot.
He quickly stowed both the crystal and his guide-stone into his storage ring and, without hesitation, grabbed a few more large chunks of purple crystal from the cave wall.
They were beautiful and would make excellent accessories later.
Meanwhile, the little lion cub began stirring again. But before it could recover, a second whiff of the medicinal scent hit its nose. It wobbled—and collapsed again.
Xiao Yuan generously gave the rest of the tranquilizer to the cub as a reward, then rushed out of the cavern and back to the fork in the tunnel.
If memory served, the companion source of the Amethyst Crystal was down the other path.
He spread out his soul perception to confirm safety, then dashed forward into the other cave.
At its center stood a pedestal made of crystal stones, over a meter tall. Atop it rested a purple orb the size of Xiao Yuan's head.
He flipped his hand and pulled out the Amethyst Spirit Crystal—then slammed it hard into the orb.
Crack!
A fracture appeared on the surface of the orb. In seconds, it spread, and with a loud boom, the orb shattered.
Xiao Yuan's eyes gleamed as he hurriedly stashed the Spirit Crystal and used a jade bottle to collect the flowing essence—the Companion Amethyst Source.
In total, he filled six jade bottles.
Unfortunately, some of the liquid had spilled into the pedestal and couldn't be scooped out.
Without hesitation, Xiao Yuan froze it with his ice-type Dou Qi, then scooped the chunks up and popped them into his mouth.
The frozen essence melted instantly and slid down his throat.
He glanced at the now-gleaming, clean crystal pedestal with satisfaction, then turned and bolted out of the cave.
