Chapter 16 - 16

Mindy nimbly scaled the back wall and entered.

"Someone broke in…"

Mindy tiptoed into her living room, but the overturned tables and scattered dishes on the floor clearly indicated that a struggle had taken place there.

"Damn it! They took my Big Daddy!"

Mindy searched the entire room but couldn't find Big Daddy Damon.

At the same time, the secret computer hidden in the toolbox was also gone.

Mindy was very anxious and immediately pulled out a phone from a drawer on the counter.

"To prevent one of us from getting caught, Big Daddy and I always carry a miniature tracker on our clothes…"

It took a lot of time to return from Central Park and stop at the safe house for a while.

However, it would also take some time for the other party to track the address from the computer's backend and come to arrest someone.

It was very possible that her Big Daddy hadn't been fully taken away yet.

Everything could still be completely saved!

...PS: In foreign countries, there's a profession called a photojournalist, who specializes in taking photos of fire and crime scenes to sell to TV stations and media. There's a good movie called 'Nightcrawler' that talks about this...

Whoosh!!

A car sped out of the street. For Hit-Girl, driving a car was much simpler than accurately shooting enemies.

"Not far…"

Mindy pressed the accelerator. Her fourteen-year-old loli figure was extremely petite, making it seem like Mindy was almost standing up in the driver's seat.

This was a strange point of cuteness.

However, Alex didn't feel any amusement in his heart, as if he guessed correctly, the other party's father was probably implicated because of him.

He could only pray in his heart that nothing bad would happen to the other party.

Damn it... if he could precisely control the power of Reality Warping again, he wouldn't be so passive now; he could directly traverse space and reach his destination.

However, the target he was about to reach wasn't too far.

Mindy executed a fierce drift, making the entire car swing ninety degrees and stop steadily on a road.

"No!!"

She suddenly felt a sense of being played.

Mindy opened the car door. The map location indicated by the phone's tracker clearly pointed straight ahead.

But in front of her was a wide road with no sign of human activity, only a conspicuous trash can in sight.

"Bastard!!"

Mindy cursed, kicking over the trash can, which was taller than a person. Among the pile of falling trash, there was only a gray T-shirt.

"Big Daddy's clothes were thrown away. This is a trick to play with me."

Hit-Girl's eyes instantly turned red.

At this moment, she suddenly remembered that her enemy was not those idiotic gang members at all, but the national machine, pressing down on her shoulders like a mountain.

How could these crude tricks outsmart those military personnel?

Mindy gritted her teeth and dialed another number on her phone.

That was Big Daddy Damon's friend, a close friend from his time in intelligence, through whose channels he had successfully obtained many weapons and equipment.

Beep beep... As a result, two or three calls went unanswered.

An ominous feeling spread in her heart. Perhaps he too had been implicated and thoroughly arrested. This daring yet logical thought twisted Mindy's heart into a knot.

"I need to leave quickly, it's not safe here…"

Mindy bravely suppressed her sobs and sat into the driver's seat.

Seeing this, Alex felt a faint ache in his heart.

If it were a stranger, he wouldn't feel so bad.

But his cold and wary heart had just let down some of its guard, preparing to accept a new friend, when a cruel answer arrived—he seemed to have caused the death of this friend's family.

He had brought too much trouble to others... In a daze, the two arrived at the safe house.

As for Mindy's old home, they naturally couldn't stay there.

Inside the safe house, with three high walls filled with guns, compared to the joyful atmosphere before, returning here was now solemn and serious, and their conversations were much fewer.

The usually cheerful and lively loli girl had become incredibly silent.

Last year, she could kill her way in and out of an underground gang's parking garage seven times without batting an eye.

But now, facing the enemy, she felt powerless and didn't know where to start.

She couldn't even find where her Big Daddy was hidden.

In the end, they were just two children. Without powerful backgrounds or extraordinary means, facing Damon's disappearance, they could only wait helplessly here.

Outside the window, the sky was gradually brightening.

A new dawn had arrived, but the light the two in the room were waiting for was still delayed.

"I will definitely help you…"

Alex didn't know how to comfort the other party, so he could only offer a promise.

"How will you help me? Can you bomb the military camp? Go against this country? Go against this world?"

Mindy retorted directly.

Her out-of-control emotions were accompanied by tear-filled eyes, and her delicate face was covered in tear streaks, as the long-suppressed depression finally erupted.

After all, she was just a fourteen-year-old child. No matter how experienced she was, she couldn't withstand the loss of a loved one.

At this moment, an even worse piece of news arrived.

The always-on TV screen switched programs.

"We interrupt this program for a news flash for all citizens. It is reported that a war broke out in Central Park in Manhattan last night. General Ross's troops were dealing with a Mutant, but were annihilated. General Ross himself was also at the scene."

This sensational news instantly shocked every viewer in front of the TV.

In an era of peace, could an army not even defeat a Mutant?

Was this another terrorist attack launched by the Brotherhood of Mutants?

Or was the military trying to arrest a Mutant and ended up being counter-killed?

Soon, the TV station with the exclusive report broadcasted the battle footage from Central Park that night. Flying needles covered the sky, taking the lives of soldiers, and a slender young figure crashed into a bulky monster.

Although the footage captured by the camera was in black and white, all of this made people feel even more exciting than a Hollywood blockbuster.

With the spread of private information, the TV station's ratings immediately soared.

The military department was caught off guard, never expecting the despicable Rising Tide Organization to play tricks on them. However, they quickly reacted and immediately launched a public relations campaign with the TV station.

"...After learning about it, the military representative conveyed a message to our TV station."

At this point, the host appeared on the screen. He unhurriedly read the note handed to him, "The suspect is a new member of the terrorist organization, the Brotherhood, an extremely vicious Mutant, a Chinese-American teenager named Alex Johnson."

"Hmm…"

"An S-Rank wanted order, the highest level, awaits him. In other words, he has nowhere to run, whether on heaven or earth."

To help viewers identify him, Alex's black and white image was even enlarged on the TV screen.

Seeing this.

Alex, standing in front of the TV, had a distorted expression.

Central Park, being adjacent to the most prosperous area of Manhattan, naturally couldn't hide from external reports. In fact, Alex even held a glimmer of hope in his heart, hoping that the media or others would clear his name and completely vindicate him.

As a result, he, an innocent experimental white mouse, a military test subject who escaped death.

Was completely wanted globally today, transforming into a Mutant member of an extreme terrorist organization.

This was simply nonsense!
