Chapter 12: Ning Rongrong, Enrollment
Time passed quickly, and soon it was only two months until the agreed-upon enrollment date. Ning Bei could also tell that his mother's pregnancy had reached its final stages, meaning Ning Rongrong would soon be born.
Thinking about the arrogant face of the character from the original story, Ning Bei made up his mind that once the little witch was born, he would have to give her a good "rua" (petting).
Three days later, Ning Bei was informed that his mother was experiencing severe pain and was sent into the delivery room.
Ning Fengzhi and Ning Bei rushed to the delivery room to wait anxiously.
"Father, have you thought of a name for my little sister?"
Hearing Ning Bei's question, Ning Fengzhi looked at him with a smile.
"How do you know it's a sister and not a brother?"
"Well, brothers aren't as fun. I want a sister."
Ning Bei mentally cursed himself for speaking carelessly but quickly made up an excuse. He certainly couldn't tell them that he had read the original story.
Ning Fengzhi thought for a moment, his eyes filled with anticipation.
"If it's a girl, I'll name her Ning Rongrong, symbolizing the prosperity of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School."
Ning Bei immediately understood and felt relieved. There wouldn't be any changes due to his arrival—he was named Ning Bei, but what if Ning Fengzhi suddenly got a weird idea and named him Ning Bao?
While the two chatted, Chen Xin and Gu Rong also arrived at the delivery room door, showing that they, too, were very concerned about the incoming new life.
Gu Rong, more impatient than the others, eagerly asked Ning Fengzhi for an update.
"How is it going, Fengzhi?"
Just as Ning Fengzhi was about to answer Gu Rong, several painful screams came from inside the delivery room, followed by the cry of a baby.
Everyone was delighted and immediately turned their attention to the delivery room.
"Congratulations, Fengzhi."
"Congratulations."
"Thank you, Uncle Chen and Uncle Gu."
The door to the delivery room opened, and a maid ran out.
"Congratulations, Sect Leader, it's a little girl, both mother and daughter are safe."
Ning Fengzhi happily acknowledged, instructing the maid and the midwife to receive their reward. He then turned to Ning Bei.
"You were right, you have a sister now."
"Congratulations, Father."
Ning Bei pouted. If it had been a brother, I'd be in trouble.
After the midwife allowed them to enter, they all entered the room.
On the bed sat Ning's mother, who had just given birth. Soul Masters were physically strong, so she was already sitting up, even though she had just delivered.
Ning's mother was holding a delicate little baby girl, who was cooing and crying out loud when she saw Ning Bei and the others walk in.
Her loud crying immediately made the four men scramble to react.
"What's going on? Bei'er didn't cry when he was born, I even held him."
"Who says that? What should we do now?"
The sight of the newborn Ning Rongrong had even two Title Douluos, known for their decisiveness in battle, completely at a loss. Ning Bei couldn't help but sigh—this is a typical example of how a crying child gets all the attention.
Seeing the three of them crowded around Ning Rongrong and Ning's mother, Ning Bei felt that his status had dropped a level.
He then moved forward, nudging the three men aside. "I haven't even pet her yet, move aside."
With great effort, he finally squeezed past and reached Ning's mother's side. Looking at Ning Rongrong, the little girl had not stopped crying. Her cries were so loud and heart-wrenching that it was almost unbearable.
Worried that the little baby might harm her throat, Ning Bei summoned his Pill Tower and made a few Pulse Guard Pills. As soon as Ning Rongrong smelled the scent of the pills, she immediately stopped crying and happily reached out for them.
Ning Bei carefully took the baby from Ning's mother's arms.
He pinched her small face with his thumb and index finger. To his surprise, Ning Rongrong not only stopped crying but even smiled happily.
This scene made both Chen Xin and Gu Rong's eyes turn red.
"Bei'er, let me hold her."
"Yes, yes, I want to hold her too."
Without a second thought, the two reached for the baby, but as soon as their hands touched Ning Rongrong, she started crying again, louder than ever.
Ning Bei, helpless, handed the baby to Gu Rong.
"Here, here, take her, you try to comfort her."
Gu Rong awkwardly took the baby, unsure of what to do. After a while of futile attempts to calm her down, he looked helplessly at Ning Bei for help.
Chen Xin, standing nearby, couldn't help but laugh at the situation.
"I told you not to grab her, now you've got to deal with it."
Gu Rong's face turned red with embarrassment.
"Old Swordman, you act like you know how to handle it. If you're so capable, why don't you take over?"
Gu Rong handed the baby to Chen Xin, but he refused to take her.
"I'm a Title Douluo, not a babysitter! This is a joke."
Ning's mother laughed as she watched them struggle.
"Bei'er, stop messing around, hurry up and calm your sister down. She hasn't eaten yet."
Ning Bei took Ning Rongrong back, and Gu Rong let out a sigh of relief, wiping the sweat from his forehead, as if he had just fought a battle with a 100,000-year-old soul beast.
But as soon as Ning Rongrong was in Ning Bei's arms again, she immediately quieted down and smiled.
Chen Xin, seeing this, teased his old rival.
"I bet it's because you look too ugly, and scared the poor thing."
"Shut up! You'd do the same!"
Ning Fengzhi smiled as he watched the scene.
"Looks like Rongrong really likes Bei'er. She'll be in your care from now on."
Ning Bei's face fell at this comment. Sure, petting her once in a while is fine, she's quite cute. But raising her? Are you serious? You want me to take care of the future of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile School?
If Ning Fengzhi could hear Ning Bei's inner thoughts, he'd probably reply with:
"The future? Isn't it right there in your arms?"
After calming Ning Rongrong down, Ning Bei handed her back to Ning's mother, and everyone exited the delivery room so the baby could eat.
Over the next few days, in addition to his regular training, making pills, and nurturing soul beasts, Ning Bei also had the daily task of pampering Rongrong.
The little girl became very attached to him and would smile happily as soon as she smelled the scent of the pills he made.
Ning Bei gradually forgot the arrogant and willful Ning Rongrong from the original story and started to lean toward becoming a doting older brother.
Time passed quickly, and it was soon time for Ning Bei to enroll in the Heaven Dou Royal Primary Academy. After bidding farewell to his parents and Rongrong, he took Ning Tao and set out for Heaven Dou City.
Although Heaven Dou City wasn't far from Seven Treasure City, coming back every day was impossible. He could only return during weekly breaks.
"Ah, babies don't remember anything, but will Rongrong even recognize me when I come back?"
Ning Tao, smiling, looked at Ning Bei.
"Don't worry, young master. Rongrong likes you so much, and it's only been a week. She will definitely remember you."
"Really? That's good."
Of course, Ning Bei had to bring Ning Tao with him. He was used to being served, and doing everything himself was unbearable. Besides, the noble academy didn't prohibit such behavior.
After a few hours of travel, Heaven Dou City appeared before them.
After bidding farewell to the sect's escorts, Ning Bei, with Ning Tao, headed to the Heaven Dou Royal Primary Soul Master Academy.
From a distance, he saw Xue Qinghe, dressed as Qian Renxue, waving at him.
Xue Qinghe was good at winning people over. As a prince, he personally came to greet Ning Bei's enrollment, giving off a humble and respectful air.
"Brother Xue, it's been a while. I didn't expect you to personally welcome me."
"Ning Brother, no need for formalities. Let me take you to a meal, then I'll introduce you to the academy's principal."
Ning Bei smiled upon hearing this.
"Then I'll trouble you, Brother Xue."
