Chapter 54 - Chapter 53

Notes:

Sorry for the long delay. It has been a really bad few weeks where a lot of IRL issues sprouted up one after the other. And truthfully, things are still very bad on my end, so updates will continue to be slow for some time.

I estimate things will be like this till the first or second week of December, after which, hopefully, I should be able to go back to uploading two chapters a day.

So, yeah. There you have it.

---------------------------------------------------------

Genbu Doumon stared worriedly at the dome of black flames that engulfed a large part of Tokyo's southern parts, specifically near Kisarazu in the Chiba district.

Sensing the twisted evil within the flames even from such a distance, the inheritor of the Black Tortoise Spirit Beast gripped onto her companion's back tighter.

"Byakko! Hurry up!"

"Damn it! Shrimp! I am going as fast as I can!!"

Byakko Shinra roared in his humanoid White Tiger form while channeling the Sacred Beast's power along with his Touki across his body, temporarily boosting his abilities into what the devils call the Ultimate-Class.

The two emissaries of the Five Principal Clans could not help but feel worried when they saw the flames erupt over Tokyo just a few minutes earlier.

Originally, they were supposed to join Team Slash/Dog from Grigori to escort Mephisto Pheles to the meeting location. Unfortunately, they were delayed due to an ambush from a bunch of devils whom they took care of rather easily.

And now, it would appear that things have truly gone off the rails.

Soon, the two children arrived at the boundary of the flames, where Byakko stopped and turned to his passenger.

"All yours, Shrimp!"

"Don't call me a shrimp!"

"Then grow a few more feet."

The silver-haired girl growled at his words but turned back to the flames.

Now was not the time for their usual banter.

Concentrating on the small tortoise that was hiding within her clothes, she channeled the power of the Black Tortoise.

Soon, her senses expanded to cover all of the area around her and reached the Tokyo Bay.

"Alright. Let's stop this devastation before it reaches anyone else-"

Before the girl could pull the water from the Tokyo Bay and douse the flames, she stopped as a crushing pressure erupted from within the dome.

The pressure was so great that the teenager and the child were forced to their knees.

Then, from within the dome of black flames that seemed like it would devour the entire world, a dot of light appeared. A dot that soon expanded at ridiculous speeds and extinguished the flames entirely.

"What the....?"

"What was that?"

The two children of the clans quickly got over their shock as they felt the pressure disappear.

Despite their appearance and age, they were still people who had been in the field, so their shock was only momentary.

With nothing stopping them anymore, the two children shot forward and caught sight of a scene that made them question reality.

It was an Angel. And a powerful one at that.

Five pairs of wings stretched behind the lion-faced being wearing gleaming armor. His eyes narrowed at the dumbfounded stray exorcists in front of him and the stunned looks given by the humans by his side.

"Finally. I was getting tired of you two following us from the airport and waiting for you to expose your sins."

The two stray exorcists felt taken aback at those words, but the older one quickly composed himself and gave a short bow.

"May I ask why you are here? Your highness? And why were you disguised as a human following that devil around?"

The Cherubim Gatekeeper simply stared the stray down.

"Don't try to act so respectful, heathen. You who has accumulated negative karma and been expelled for it, did not repent. Instead, you joined hands with those who would do harm to the innocents."

"The Kaos Brigade is just a temporary-"

David did not even get the chance to complete his words as the sword in his hands, the one that he had been wielding despite its rejection of him, glowed with holy light and burned his arm.

The man screamed and let go of the sword, which immediately flew to the Cherubim.

"An unworthy heathen cannot be allowed to wield such a weapon of purity."

"Then, how about this cursed sword? You damned hypocritical pigeon!!"

Freed grinned crazily and leapt at Cherubim with the Sword of Methusela, blurring through the air.

Yet, the angel simply raised his arm and caught the blade with his fingers.

"The sword is powerful, even in its corrupted state. Yet, the wielder does it no justice."

White flames ignited from the Cherubim's fingers and swiftly flowed across the blade, reaching Freed before he could react.

"Repent, child, for the evils you have committed, and the flames shall spare you."

"FUCK YOU AND YOUR DAMNED FLOCK!! YOU ARE ALL NOTHING MORE THAN HIPOCRITS WHO USE YOUR POWER FOR WHAT YOU WANT JUST LIKE I DO!!"

"...Very well. Since you refuse to repent, let the flames consume you, body and soul."

Just like the Angel said, the flames continued to burn the stray exorcist, reducing him to cinder as his very soul was eradicated.

Yet, the most disturbing thing for team Slash/Dog and the two children from the clans was how Freed continued laughing maniacally to the end.

With the task done, the angel took the Sword of Methusela and placed it within his inventory before turning to the group of humans.

"You did good, children from the Grigori. Even if you only got a brief moment to fight, I have seen your spirit to protect and fulfill your duty. Let us be off."

"Um, if I am not interrupting, I would like to know why an angel is accompanying Mephisto Pheles to this meeting with out clans!?"

Genbu's tiny voice startled the group from Grigori, who immediately took on a fighting stance but relaxed a little as they saw that it was just fellow humans, and given their words, were from the five clans.

The Angel turned to the two children.

"As Mephisto said to the children from Grigori, there are a lot of things going on that you do not need to know about. What you need to know is that this meeting between Mephistopheles and your clans was a secondary objective."

"Then, what was the primary-"

"Hush, child. This is no place to discuss such things. Come, let us depart."

With the invitation clear, the two children from the clan joined the group in the car as they took off

However, nobody but Mephisto knew that the Angel had used an extremely powerful illusion to show a scene completely different from what occurred.

For those who were observing this attack from a distance, all they saw was Freed using the sword's cursed flames to cause a lot of destruction. Once the flames subsided, there was nothing left of the Stray Exorcists or their targets.

Only two swords were left on the ground. Swords that were promptly retrieved by the Stray Exorcists' associated.

Exactly as the Angel had planned.
