Every beautiful crew member was precious to Leo, and he made a point never to show favoritism. He believed in sharing his attention equally!
Amidst playful shrieks and laughter from the three women, the familiar sounds of a lively game began to emanate from the cabin later that evening. The ship, momentarily forgotten, began to drift off course...
...
A week passed in a blur of intense focus and training.
High above the sea, Nami, standing on a small, self-generated patch of Island Cloud, concentrated as she guided the Going Merry through the skies. This ingenious method completely freed Leo from his duties at the helm.
On the deck below, Kaya was drenched in sweat, fully committed to her physical training. Her face was flushed a healthy pink, a picture of determined cuteness.
As for Nami—
Driven by the impending confrontation with Arlong, she had thrown herself into a frenzy of training over the past few days. It was brutal. It was exhausting to the point of nausea. Each time she pushed herself to the verge of collapse, she would have Kaya use the Heal-Heal Fruit's power to purge her fatigue and negative status effects, then immediately dive back into mastering her new abilities.
Kaya watched, her heart aching for her friend. While the physical exhaustion could be erased, the mental and sensory ordeal of the training itself was all too real.
Nami, however, would just offer a tired, dismissive smile. Compared to the living nightmare of the past eight years, this pain was nothing. If it meant destroying Arlong, liberating Cocoyasi Village, and avenging Bell-mère, she was willing to endure any cost.
Her focus for the week had been on two primary elements: Lightning and Cloud.
Lightning for overwhelming offense.
Cloud for versatile defense.
She had progressed from summoning faint sparks and wispy clouds to generating robust bolts of lightning and now, confidently creating a large enough Island Cloud to carry the entire ship aloft. She was constantly pushing past her limits. The cycle was simple: train until she dropped, get healed by Kaya, and start again.
Watching a particularly powerful lightning bolt crackle from Nami's fingertips and strike a distant, unlucky wave, Leo called out his approval. "Not bad at all, Nami!"
Nami turned, planting her hands on her hips, a proud glint in her eyes. "Just wait. Arlong's in for a real shock later."
Leo nodded, immensely satisfied. Her fighting spirit was perfect.
Nami's progress in just a few days had been meteoric. Her compatibility with the Weather-Weather Fruit was near flawless. Her innate genius for understanding wind, rain, clouds, and lightning made her a natural. No wonder, Leo thought, a legendary pirate like Shiki once wanted to kidnap her for his navigator.
He had initially considered slowing their pace to give Nami more time to train, believing that all fear stemmed from a lack of firepower. The stronger she became, the weaker her deep-seated terror of Arlong would grow. But his worry had been unnecessary. Perhaps fueled by her burning hatred, Nami's potential had exploded, her strength advancing by leaps and bounds. In her current state, she was more than capable of handling Arlong. Now, when she heard his name, her eyes held only a cold, profound loathing.
Seeing Nami dripping with sweat, Kaya dutifully stepped forward, a soft white light emanating from her hands to wash away the navigator's fatigue.
"Thanks, Kaya," Nami said, offering a genuinely sweet smile.
"Of course," Kaya replied warmly. "We're almost at Cocoyasi Village, Nami. You should save your strength."
Nami nodded, using a towel to wipe the sweat from her brow.
Leo, struck by a thought, offered a final piece of advice. "Nami, remember. When facing an enemy, show no mercy. You must eradicate the root of the problem." He was thinking of a certain rubbery idiot who had a habit of just punching his foes into the horizon.
"I understand," Nami replied, her voice laced with venom. Mercy?! She wouldn't be satisfied until every last one of those Arlong Pirates bastards was turned into sushi.
Before long, the Island Cloud was hovering directly over Arlong Park.
"Nami, you go down. I'll provide support from here," Leo said, taking control of the cloud to keep it stationary high above.
Nami took a deep, steadying breath. "Right." Her lower body dissolved into a wispy cloud, and she shot downward in a controlled dive, heading straight for the heart of the monstrosity Arlong had built.
.....
.....
Within the grotesque theme park of Arlong Park, the fish-man Arlong was sharing a laugh and a drink with a man whose facial features and demeanor were unmistakably rat-like.
Naval Captain Nezumi stroked his whiskery mustache, his eyes glinting with greed as he looked at the large chest of Berries Arlong had just pushed across the table toward him.
"A pleasure doing business with you, Arlong," Nezumi simpered.
Arlong spread his arms wide, a booming, arrogant laugh echoing around them. "Hahahaha! Captain Nezumi! As long as we work together, this entire sea is our playground!" For years, he had tyrannized these waters, committing every atrocity imaginable, yet he remained untouched. The key was his alliance with this corrupt Marine Captain. The man was insatiably greedy, but the protection he offered was worth the price.
Nezumi nodded with a slimy smile. What was the point of slaving away on a Marine Captain's salary? The money in this chest alone was worth years of his pay. As for the people Arlong had murdered or enslaved? He couldn't care less. There were always more people. They just better not get in the way of his profits.
In the middle of their jovial conversation, a small shadow fell over them.
"What a pair of worthless scum."
The cold, female voice cut through their merriment. Both Arlong and Nezumi started, looking up in confusion.
Their eyes met the frosty, hate-filled gaze of Nami, hovering above them.
"Nami?!" Arlong blurted out, his shock evident. His eyes widened as he took in her form—her lower body transformed into a swirling cloud. "How did you—?!"
He was well-traveled enough to recognize it immediately.
Devil Fruit power!
And a Logia-type, no less!
Damn it!! Arlong's face darkened instantly. Without Haki, he couldn't even lay a finger on a Logia user. That wretch Nami had gotten her hands on a Logia-type fruit?! This was very, very bad.
Under the stunned gazes of Arlong and his gathered fish-men crew, Nami descended, her cloud-like lower body solidifying back into legs as her feet touched the ground.
Arlong's face was a mask of fury and newfound wariness. "Nami! What are you doing here?! Do you have the hundred million Berries?!" he demanded, trying to reassert control.
"Heh. A hundred million Berries?" Nami's cold gaze swept over Arlong, his crew, and finally settled on Captain Nezumi. "So even the Marines are your lackeys. No wonder it was so easy for you..."
In that moment, everything clicked into place for her.
"In that case..." Her voice dropped to a deadly whisper, crackling with nascent power. "... you can all just DIE!"
