Chapter 7 - Guesses

"Peter, Peter, come and take a look! Does this outfit suit me?"

The Parker household was a bit noisy this morning, with May Parker shouting at Peter.

Peter yawned and walked towards Aunt May's room, a little helpless.

In front of the full-length mirror in the room, a voluptuous Italian woman was "striking a pose." Her skin was fair, like a peach, seemingly ready to burst with juice at the slightest touch.

Well, maybe it wasn't appropriate to describe his dear Aunt May with such words, but that was Peter's first thought upon seeing her.

"Aunt May, I said, it's just Tony Stark. There's no need to make such a big deal out of it, is there?" Peter said helplessly.

"Just Tony Stark?" Aunt May's voice immediately rose several decibels, and she looked at Peter in disbelief. "You didn't say that when you got the message yesterday. Your expression was like you were about to jump for joy! And, don't think I don't know, you tossed and turned all night last night, didn't you?"

"Uh…" Peter was at a loss for words.

Indeed, if it were the Peter of before, he would have been incredibly excited and honored that Tony Stark, Iron Man himself, was coming to visit.

That was Tony Stark! A genius scientist, billionaire, Iron Man, an Avenger. Countless halos surrounded him, making him seem like the protagonist of a novel, radiating brilliance.

And he, Peter Parker, was just an ordinary kid with a modest background, not particularly popular at school.

It was like a prince visiting a slum to see a pauper—how could the pauper not be thrilled?

But last night's miraculous fusion with the Shadow Spider-Man not only gave Peter some "evolution" in his physical form and enriched his knowledge, but also made him feel a subtle resistance towards capitalists like Stark deep down.

Furthermore, with the Shadow Spider-Man's logical reasoning ability, Peter was now 95% sure that Iron Man had come because he had discovered his abilities!

He had even guessed at some of the background of the situation.

In the Sokovia incident a month ago, the Avengers had done their best to stop Ultron's world-ending plot.

But there were still many "rumors" circulating online, claiming that Ultron was originally created by Iron Man. The fall of Sokovia, the displacement of millions of residents, and the countless casualties and property losses, were ultimately Stark's fault.

Even though Stark Industries later generously provided a great deal of funding for the resettlement and compensation of Sokovian residents after the disaster, building shelters, organizing medical teams, and even having its pharmaceutical department develop and provide free medicine, and so on…

All of this was seen as Iron Man's atonement for his mistakes.

But atonement doesn't mean innocence; it can't erase the mistakes themselves.

In the past, out of admiration for Iron Man, Peter was very angry at these criticisms against Iron Man, and he argued with them online many times.

But now, he thought, those attacks were very likely true.

Of course, those who deliberately released these comments also had ulterior motives.

Either to attract attention and make money from traffic, or to attack Iron Man and his Stark Industries.

Because he had also seen people calling for Iron Man to open up some of Stark Industries' technology to the public, under the guise of "public safety supervision."

Peter could guess what was on their minds.

He was sure that even if Tony Stark were foolish enough to do as they asked, these technologies would eventually be stolen by those with ulterior motives, hidden away, and used for their own selfish schemes.

Of course, Tony Stark was clearly not a foolish idiot and wouldn't actually do that.

He had the ability and the means to protect his legitimate assets.

The second clue: a few weeks ago, in Lagos, a building was destroyed and many people were injured due to the actions of the Avengers.

Although they were also fighting against a terrorist organization, it was certain that they had caused panic among the public.

Then, a few days ago, a meeting was held at the LHG Building in Vienna, and the content of the meeting was the Sokovia Accords.

The Accords demanded restrictions on the Avengers' actions, requiring them to act only after an assessment determined their involvement was necessary, rather than acting as they pleased in the past.

Unfortunately, on the day the Accords were signed, the LHG Building in Vienna was attacked by terrorists, resulting in the deaths of twelve people, including Wakanda's King T'Chaka, and at least seventy injuries.

The public was also deeply shaken by the incident.

Although the authorities released photos of the suspect, identifying him as the notorious Hydra agent, James Buchanan Barnes, also known as the Winter Soldier, conspiracy theorists believed that it was revenge from certain former Avengers who were unwilling to sign the accords.

Some even dug up old stories, confirming that Captain America and the Winter Soldier were once very close friends. Captain America's story was well-known; he went from a stage performer to the true Captain America, partly because he saved his friend, the Winter Soldier, and many other captured soldiers. Finding this information wasn't difficult.

And as everyone knew, Captain America didn't show up on the day the accords were signed. Although no one knew why, it was apparent that he was unwilling to sign the agreement.

Even though it was hard to believe that this hero, who had long been a symbol of America, would be a member of the opposition, that was the reality.

He also had a motive.

The speculation was logical.

If the previous points were just conjecture, then the video from yesterday, showing Captain America, the Winter Soldier, and a man in black armor chasing and fighting on the streets of Germany, confirmed these speculations.

Captain America is now a criminal!

The internet is flooded with negative comments about the Avengers, especially towards Captain America, who has gone from a superhero to a despised super-criminal!

Considering everything, Tony Stark coming to see him at this moment, Peter had only two guesses:

First, he had discovered Peter's true identity and his superpowers, so he wanted him to sign the Sokovia Accords and restrict himself.

Second, based on the first point, due to Captain America's rebellion, he might team up with the remaining people unwilling to sign the agreement to fight against the pro-agreement faction led by Iron Man.

Iron Man needed help, so he came to him.

Peter was thinking to himself: If that's the case, what should he do?

"Hey, Peter? Why are you spacing out?" Aunt May walked over to Peter at some point.

Peter came back to his senses and smiled, "Aunt May, you look radiant."

"Really? I think so too!"
