"Ned, don't you have school too? And you've got the Stark internship on top of that. How are you going to juggle school, the Stark internship, and being Spider-Man?" Ned asked in disbelief.
"Being Spider-Man is part of the Stark internship," Peter replied.
"Oh."Ned finally understood.
"Listen, Ned," Peter said, placing a hand on Ned's shoulder and looking straight into his eyes, "being a superhero isn't just cool costumes and attention. There's responsibility—real responsibility—that comes with it. When I put on the suit and chose this path, I accepted everything that comes with it."
"So I want you to think carefully. If you truly want to do this with me, have you really prepared yourself for what it means? Or is this just a spur-of-the-moment thing because you think superheroes are cool?"
Ned fell silent, lost in thought.
Clearly, just like Peter once was, he had only ever thought being a superhero was impressive and exciting—something to show off.
That's what many young people think.
But after everything Peter had experienced across different worlds, he now understood that being a superhero isn't easy at all.
Being a superhero doesn't give you some special authority, nor is it an obligation only certain people can fulfill.
But the moment you consciously choose to put on that suit, responsibility settles on your shoulders.
You can ignore that responsibility. But if you do… you don't deserve to be called a superhero.
And besides—
There aren't even any real benefits.
It doesn't bring you money. It might actually drag you down, complicate your life, or even ruin it.
Bully Spider-Man was a prime example.
He couldn't balance Spider-Man and Peter Parker, and his whole life became a mess.
Maybe Amazing Spider-Man B went through something similar.
Peter didn't know the details, so he didn't assume.
In contrast, he really admired Blond Spider-Man's situation.
He had a career, stable income, a loving partner (Mary Jane), supportive family (Aunt May), and as a superhero he was both loved by the public and officially recognized.
If being Spider-Man were rated out of ten, Blond Spider-Man would score at least a 9.5.
Ned obviously couldn't feel the same depth, but he could tell from Peter's serious tone how important this was to him.
Peter took a deep breath and continued, "Just think about it carefully. No matter what you decide, we'll always be good friends."
"Yeah…" Ned nodded. He really did need to think it over.
Peter didn't rush him. After a few more reminders, he said goodbye and prepared to leave Midtown Tech.
He still needed to look into the Mimic Master.
He wasn't sure if she had come after him, after Spider-Man, or if she had simply been tricked by Flash's poster.
Judging from her behavior, it seemed like the third option—but Peter wouldn't feel at ease without confirming.
But first, he needed to speak with Aunt May.
Outside the auditorium, Peter spotted Aunt May waiting.
Her first sentence, spoken with a teasing smile, was:"So… where's that pretty blonde girl?"
Peter's cheeks reddened. "Aunt May…"
"Oh my, you're actually blushing," she laughed, pinching his cheek.
"That was just for the performance! I didn't even know Betty before today," Peter explained frantically, pulling away from her grip.
"Mm-hmm, yes, sure. The school play just happens to include a kissing scene—on the lips, no less. Very 'didn't know her,' indeed~" Aunt May poked his forehead.
"What's wrong with kissing someone on the lips?" Peter muttered instinctively, licking the corner of his mouth as if he could still feel the softness of Betty's lips.
"Ahem."Aunt May gave him a very meaningful smile. "Next time you get the chance, remember to invite her over for dinner. But tell me in advance, okay?"
"Wait—Aunt May, I'm really not close to her!" Peter said, belatedly realizing he'd walked right into her trap.
"So," Aunt May asked with a grin, looping her arm through his, "are you heading off to see this 'not-close' Betty? Or are you coming home with me?"
"I… I have something to do. I need to stop by Stark Labs," Peter said awkwardly.
Aunt May studied him for a moment, then sighed, loosened her arm, and cupped his head, placing a soft kiss on his forehead."Go, but come back early. And be safe."
"I will," Peter nodded quickly. He said goodbye and hurried off.
Behind him, Aunt May stared after his retreating figure, lost in thought.
Peter didn't go to Tony Stark directly. Officially, he was only an intern at Stark Industries—getting too close to Tony could make people connect him to Spider-Man.
Being an intern gave him perfect cover.
Stark Industries' newest optical-microscope glasses had supposedly been developed by a new intern—something Tony had "accidentally" leaked, and the rumor was already spreading.
Anyone who looked into it could trace it back to Peter.
It was all a smokescreen.
It explained why Stark Industries suddenly sponsored Midtown Tech, why a random high schooler got funding from the September Foundation, and why Peter ended up inside Stark Industries.
The invention wasn't valuable enough to make anyone target him.
And under the identity of a young "researcher," his Spider-Man identity was perfectly hidden.
Who would ever think that Spider-Man was just a kid—and a talented intern at that?
Whenever Peter wore the suit, he altered his voice slightly.
With his level of bodily control, changing his vocal tone was easy.
Even ordinary people can do voice acting.Your online "girlfriend" might not even be who you think she is—just saying.
After sending Tony a quick message, Peter left the school grounds.
A few minutes later, an extremely irritated Happy arrived.
"Didn't you go home? Why am I picking you up again?" Happy grumbled. Tony had told him earlier that he and Pepper were leaving on their own, so Happy had already driven off.
Halfway down the street, Tony suddenly messaged him:'Come back and pick up Peter Parker.'
Did Tony realize how bad the traffic was right now?!
