Chapter 110 - Fighting the Fire

After making sure the driver hadn't suffered any secondary injuries from his actions, Peter gently laid the man on the ground.

Then he headed toward the other severely damaged vehicle.

After taking a look, Peter realized this one was much easier to deal with.

The people inside weren't trapped because the vehicle itself was too damaged, but because it happened to be wedged between the burning car and the car behind it, so none of its doors could open.

The cars behind were packed together, and since the burning car couldn't be extinguished, even the most anxious bystanders could only stare helplessly.

Peter checked and confirmed that the two people inside this vehicle were conscious. That meant he could work freely.

He first shot two or three web lines to sturdy points on nearby buildings, all of them connecting back to his right hand. Then he positioned himself on top of the trapped vehicle.

Peter placed his left hand on the car, activating the static adhesion in his palm.

The entire vehicle stuck firmly to his hand, as if glued to it. With Peter exerting strength, the car was gradually lifted from the ground.

"Whoa! Spider-Man!"

"Amazing! Spider-Man!"

"What a hero!"

Cheers erupted around him as the crowd witnessed the scene.

Crack—

With a soft snapping sound, the trapped vehicle was finally pulled free from the tight gap between the others.

Peter released his grip, flipped in midair, and in a flash appeared beneath the vehicle, carrying it as he landed in an open area nearby.

Once he set the car down, the doors opened, and a graceful-looking brunette woman and a child emerged.

The brunette hugged the child close. The little boy peeked curiously at Spider-Man through the space between his mother's arms.

Peter smiled warmly, waved a hand, and bounded upward, preparing to leave.

Behind him, the brunette called out, "Wait—Spider-Man!"

Peter halted his jump and turned toward her.

Holding her son's hand, she walked up to him. "Thank you for helping us. My name is Vanessa Marianna, and this is my son, Richard."

"You're welcome. It was nothing," Peter said, bending down to ruffle little Richard's hair. "Don't be scared, little Richard. Whenever you're in danger, Spider-Man will be there for you."

"Mm-hmm!" Little Richard's eyes sparkled as he stared at him.

"I'll get going. Looks like they still need help over there." Peter jerked a thumb over his shoulder.

"Thank you!"

"Thank you, Spider-Man!"

Mother and son's voices echoed from behind him.

Meanwhile, although Peter had left earlier, he returned quickly.

He still needed to deal with the burning car.

The good news was that the car's fuel tank had already been breached by the external flames and had produced a small explosion earlier.

That initial pop had destroyed the tank's sealed environment, letting the gasoline ignite more freely and causing the fire to intensify.

But the upside was that it wouldn't explode again.

Still, the fire needed to be extinguished as soon as possible.

On his way back, Peter again checked with Karen about the fire trucks. They had indeed arrived nearby, but the congestion prevented them from getting through.

The firefighters had split into two teams:one team carrying emergency tools and advancing on foot, and the other staying with the vehicles to assist police in clearing traffic.

Even so, it would still take several more minutes for the on-foot team to reach the scene.

And in those few minutes, the fire could still spread.

"If only Sandman were here," Peter thought with a sigh.

There were fire hydrants on the street, but they contained water. And water on a gasoline fire would only make it worse.

The best method was sand—to cut off oxygen directly.

Unfortunately… this world had no Sandman.

With that in mind, Peter simply acted as a "manual conveyor machine," moving the crashed and jammed vehicles one by one out of their positions, rearranging them properly.

Once everything was cleared and organized, the previously clogged street suddenly felt wide and open.

While Peter was doing all this, the team of on-foot firefighters finally arrived.

But Peter had already done most of their job for them.

All they had to do was some final checks and touch-ups.

And unlike Captain Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man universe, these firefighters didn't resent Spider-Man for "stealing their work."

After all, Peter's Spider-Man wasn't a rogue vigilante—he was an officially recognized member of the Avengers, personally endorsed by Iron Man.

Public opinion about the Avengers was mixed, but most people—especially New Yorkers—knew exactly what the Avengers stood for.

Not everyone was an ungrateful fool.

With the crowd shouting thanks all around him, Peter left the scene and continued toward Stark Tower.

Stark Tower had been rather desolate lately, because Tony Stark had already sold it and was in the middle of the handover process.

Peter was actually curious about who could possibly convince Tony Stark to sell Stark Tower.

After all, Stark Tower wasn't just a building.

First, it was the Avengers' headquarters.

Second, its power came from a massive arc reactor designed by Tony Stark himself.

In simple terms, the building didn't pay for electricity.

And beyond that, after years of improvement by Tony Stark, the building's facilities were extremely advanced—even though some parts had been removed during relocation.

So Peter was very curious: who exactly managed to buy it off Tony Stark?

But Tony didn't say, and Peter didn't ask.

Anyway, Tony assured him that the lab arranged for him wouldn't be taken back—it would simply be moved to the Avengers' new base.

Even if that meant he'd have to take several more subway stops, he didn't have a choice.

Unless… he asked the new owner of Stark Tower if they'd rent him a floor.

He didn't have the money yet, but his composite web material business was gaining momentum and gradually earning him income.

Give it a year at most—he'd definitely have enough to rent an entire floor.

Not because he wanted to go independent too quickly.

But as a researcher, who could resist the temptation of having a lab entirely his own?

And if he wanted to form a small team someday, they'd need a place to work, right?

He couldn't exactly do that at Midtown Tech High School.

A personal lab was essential!
