Chapter 248 - Web Weaving Event

"Just because they can't find my universe, they define me as an 'enemy'?" Peter frowned slightly. If that was the case, then this Spider-Man named Miguel and his Spider-Man Alliance were too narrow-minded and overbearing.

This made him feel displeased.

Miles chimed in, "Exactly! I believe Mr. Venom is definitely a good person! Gwen, that Miguel's methods are too overbearing. What if it's a technical issue? Just because of that, they arbitrarily define someone's good and evil?"

Because Peter had saved him, and because Peter could also save the Blond Spider-Man, and had possessed the Blond Spider-Man, with all these factors combined, Miles practically worshipped Peter.

Just like Nova in Peter's world worshipped him.

Spider-Gwen shook her head, "It's not just because of that."

She glanced at Miles, hesitating.

Peter reached out, taking the blueprints from Miles and sketching on them, "Miles, I've checked everything. Take this route first, and go help check it out."

Miles pouted, a little unwilling.

He wasn't an idiot; of course, he could tell that Spider-Gwen was deliberately avoiding him, that there were things she didn't want him to hear.

He just couldn't figure out why.

What was it that he wasn't allowed to know?

And, he thought Spider-Gwen might like him, just a little. Of course, that might just be one of the three great illusions of life.

After all, in that operation a year ago, Spider-Gwen and Miles hadn't interacted much, only being ordinary friends who had fought side by side.

Miles walked away, holding the blueprints dejectedly.

"Alright, can we talk now?" Peter said.

Spider-Gwen was a little surprised; she didn't know why Miles listened to Peter so much.

But she didn't press for more, instead saying, "The spider that bit Miles wasn't supposed to exist in this world. It's a mutated spider that came from Earth-42 through a super particle collider experiment."

"Yeah, I know. I heard Spot say something about it," Peter nodded.

Spider-Gwen continued, "That spider was supposed to bite the Miles from that world, but by a fluke, it gave the Miles of this world his powers. The Miles from that world was supposed to become the only Spider-Man in that world, like the 'protagonist' in the comics. He has something that can be understood as 'Protagonist Status'."

"But when it merged with the Miles of this world, the 'Protagonist Status' naturally went to this world's Miles, making him the 'only Spider-Man' of this world."

"You mean, because that spider from Earth-42 bit Miles, making Miles this world's Spider-Man, replacing the original Blond Spider-Man, that's why Blond Spider-Man died?" Peter frowned, asking.

Spider-Gwen nodded, "That's pretty much it."

"Heh, isn't that ridiculous?" Peter scoffed. "Even if that so-called 'Protagonist Status' you mentioned really exists, Blond Spider-Man was the 'protagonist' of this world. How could he be replaced by someone from another world? Are imports somehow better than local products?"

"This..." Spider-Gwen was stumped by Peter's question.

At the same time, she also understood.

Right, there's no way to explain this, is there?

Even if Miles gained the Spider-Man abilities of Earth-42 and became the new Spider-Man, at most, it would just be adding another "protagonist."

But Blond Spider-Man is the "senior protagonist" of this world. Whether it's in terms of abilities, time, contributions, or any other aspect, Blond Spider-Man completely outclasses Miles, the "new protagonist."

So if a so-called god of destiny really existed, it should be Blond Spider-Man who was suppressing Miles, not the other way around.

Of course, Miles does bear a great deal of responsibility for Blond Spider-Man's sacrifice.

But it's not from the perspective of so-called destiny.

Destiny and all that is nonsense!

As someone who has influenced many Spider-Men, Peter absolutely doesn't believe in such things.

"Besides this? There should be some other meaning, right? What does Miles's situation have to do with me?" Peter asked.

"Through studying parallel universes, Miguel discovered a special rule that exists within them, which he calls: Web Weaving Event," Spider-Gwen said.

"The Web Weaving Event?" Peter asked.

"Yes, the Web Weaving Event. It's a Web of Destiny that connects all Spider-Men, dictating the story arcs of every Spider-Man, every parallel universe. And Extra-dimensional Beings are outside the Web of Destiny. They could very well disrupt these stories, changing their course and thus destroying the web," Gwen said, her tone heavy.

Peter frowned.

The Web of Destiny.

Connecting every Spider-Man.

This sounded a bit like the Glowing Spiderweb in his mind, didn't it?

But there was a difference.

Because everything he'd done after getting the Glowing Spiderweb seemed to be about change.

If this so-called Web of Destiny is real, then what he's doing is changing the "predestined fate" of every Spider-Man he's encountered!

What is he?

A destroyer of the Web of Destiny?

Or a re-shaper of the Web of Destiny?

Peter thought carefully, feeling that what he was doing was guiding the Spider-Men to become better, giving them a brighter future.

If becoming a hero requires sacrificing oneself, the happiness of loved ones and friends, or even life itself, then this superhero... isn't worth it!

Peter only drifted for a moment before regaining his inner resolve.

"What are the consequences of destroying the Web Weaving Event?" he asked.

He felt as though he had found the key to the problem.

However, Spider-Gwen shook her head: "Miguel only told us that if the Web Weaving Event is destroyed, the consequences will be extremely serious, but he didn't say exactly what would happen. Hobie and I have speculated that there are two possible consequences."

"The first, the story will go dark, thus giving rise to a dark world."

"The second, the story will completely collapse, meaning the universe will disappear!"

"That serious?" Peter was a little frightened. "But, I've also been to many different worlds and affected the direction of their stories. Why were those worlds fine?"

Peter looked at the universe numbers recorded in the Glowing Spiderweb in his mind, and questioned his soul once more.

Was Miguel exaggerating, or was his Glowing Spiderweb incredibly powerful?
