Louise's POV
Louise Jenkin's gaze lingered on the door even after Davina had vanished, her palm still pressed against the desk's edge.
The office suddenly seemed cramped, suffocating in its silence. The wall clock's steady tick-tick-tick filled the void.
She shoved back from her desk and shot to her feet, the movement almost violent in its urgency.
Her feet carried her in restless circles around the room.
She dragged her hand across her forehead, fingers sliding down her face with exhaustion.
"What the hell am I doing?" The words escaped as barely a whisper.
She shouldn't be buying into this. She shouldn't let some damn nightmare drag her into madness.
Dreams were nothing but meaningless fragments that flickered behind closed eyelids. That's all.
This wasn't some fantasy film where people glimpsed tomorrow in their sleep. The very idea was absurd.
But still...
Her pacing ceased abruptly, arms coiling around her torso as if she could cage her racing pulse.
