Chase's POV
"What's wrong?" Chase asked the second he spotted his sister in the kitchen, filling a glass with water.
The glass shook slightly in Davina's grip, and he caught it immediately. She appeared completely drained, like someone who'd been barely keeping it together all day and was finally starting to fall apart.
Her shoulders drooped, loose strands of hair framing her face. Her eyes held a weariness that seemed too heavy for someone her age.
Davina looked utterly spent.
Davina let out a shaky breath.
"You're home," Davina said with another exhale, her tone mixing relief with frustration. She hadn't even noticed him walking in.
"I got your message," he responded quickly, concern creasing his features as he stepped closer. His pulse hammered, though he fought to stay composed for her.
Then, with more force, he pressed again. "What's wrong?"
