Davina's POV
**Drained Warmth**
"Davina, you're getting rid of it, right?"
I didn't blink. I didn't flinch. I just stared straight into Dotty's eyes and spoke the words that had been weighing down my chest for days.
"I'm keeping it."
The room went dead silent.
Dotty made a sound somewhere between a scoff and a laugh, dripping with disbelief. "What?" She blinked at me like I'd just told her I was relocating to Mars. Then louder, harsher, "Are you out of your mind?"
"Dotty," Mom interrupted, her voice cutting but weary. "Let's just take it down a notch, okay?"
Dotty flung her hands up in exasperation. "Take it down a notch? Did you hear what she just said?"
Calista leaned in, her eyebrows knitted together in confusion. "You want to keep it? What about college?"
I drew in a deep breath and settled into the closest chair. My fingers played with the edge of my shirt for a moment before I found my voice.
