Chapter 48 - Go on

Dawn had barely begun to stretch its light across the palace when Celestia entered the imperial training grounds. Mist still clung to the air, drifting across the courtyard like pale ribbons. The guards were surprised to see her out so early, dressed not in royal silks but in fitted riding trousers and a high-collared tunic that allowed her freedom of movement. She didn't bother explaining. Every step she took was another declaration that she would not be confined by what others thought proper.

Today was not a day for delicate etiquette.

Today was for building her army—political, intellectual, and social.

Lysander met her at the center of the courtyard, bowing. "The representatives from the younger houses have been summoned as you instructed. They will arrive shortly."
