Chapter 8 - Awakening Ceremony (3): Trash and Genius

All eyes were on Matt as he stepped forward.

They had noticed him since; his handsome face, even the ordinary clothes he wore, couldn't conceal his charm.

And also Eira, who was beside him, was also the most beautiful among the children.

It was even surprising for both of them to be together. They thought they were of extraordinary background, which made their interest pique about what rank of talent Matt would awaken.

Everywhere was silent, all eyes on Matt, as he stood before the awakening crystal. Matt took a deep breath, placing his hands on the crystal.

Everyone looked at the crystal, wondering what beam of light it would release.

At first, the awakening crystal turned black, stunning the rough man, the four instructors in the room, and other instructors, as they had never seen such a scene before.

Then, a green beam of light was released.

"D Rank Absorb Talent"

Everyone shook their head disappointed; most were elated. Matt's charm was oppressing them.

Matt looked at the green beam of light, and everything in him shattered; he wouldn't lie that he was expecting at least B-rank talent. But reality slapped him with the green beam of light before him. His entire body turned cold.

How could he find out about his parents death, and how would he survive in this world that preyed on the weak?

"You can head back to the crowd." The words of the rough man woke Matt up from his thoughts.

He shook his head bitterly; he managed to keep his determination from fading and breaking into pieces.

He went back to the crowd, everyone gloating at him.

"Don't worry, Matt. It's not the end of all things," Eira comforted him.

These words boosted him back up. Yes, it wasn't the end of all things.

"Eira Dawson"

"That's me," Eira said, her eyes shone as she proceeded to step outside.

"Wish you success," Matt encouraged her. She nodded with joy, heading out to where the awakening crystal was.

In the room,

"That Dawson name, is it what I think it is?" The green-haired young woman raised her eyebrows, clearly confused.

"Nah, I don't think so. What's Dawson finding in such a remote place like Sunset City? You are overthinking things," the bookworm, glasses guy, harrumphed.

"Let's continue to see; we can't say yet. Her talent would determine it, the burly young man said.

Back to the Awakening Ceremony,

When the crowd saw Eira stepping out, they looked at her; some wondered if she would be like Matt, who awakened trash talent.

And this was what they wished for.

Eira proceeded; her beauty made some ladies jealous. She placed her hands on the Awakening crystal.

The next moment, something shocking happened; everyone's eyes were glued to the scene before them.

The awakening crystal released a platinum beam of light that pierced through the awakening center.

The rough man couldn't believe this, stammering, "SS.... Rank… Talent…"

Their eyes bulged out, glued to the scene before them.

"SS Rank Ice Talent"

When they saw these words, they realized that it wasn't a lie but an SS Rank Ice Talent.

The four instructors who were in the room were shocked by this: "It seems she is someone from the Dawson Clan." They shook their heads at this but wondered why she was here.

"It seems it's time to step out," the green-haired young woman said.

The next moment, their figure disappeared from the room, no trace of them leaving.

Matt saw all of this, his mind in utter shock. He smiled; he felt genuinely happy for Eira.

At this moment, Eira turned to Matt, her eyes on him, but when she saw the smile and happiness in Matt's eyes, she felt relieved for no reason.

The children looked at her in shock, envy, and jealousy. They know that Eira was going to be a strong powerhouse at the top of the world one day.

The rough man wanted to step forward, but…

"Don't worry, Wales. We would take it from here." A lady's voice resounded in the awakening ceremony.

The children turned their backs, looking at the entrance; three men and a lady stood there.

When the children scrutinized them, they saw the logo on their cloth; for those who knew, their bodies shook in excitement.

Matt looked at the logo, was also excited; he recognized that logo.

This logo was the logo of the Requiem Academy, where all awakeners train to become Requiem Masters, awaken their Requiem, and learn how to make use of their talents.

For those that didn't know, they asked those that know. When they learned the identity of the one before them, they were also delighted and awed by the figure before them.

The four of them walked through the crowd of children, who immediately gave way for them.

When everyone saw that they were walking towards the awakening crystal side, they realized something: it appears that the four people from the Requiem Academy came for Eira.

Their envy multiplied once again, looking at Eira, who seems to have the halo of an angel.

The four of them walked towards Eira; even the green-haired young woman felt a bit envious, knowing that Eira would grow into a beauty more outstanding than her.

"My name is Kimberly," she introduced herself. Eira replied to her, "Eira.""This glasses guy is called Charles; as for the burly one, his name is Daniel; this idiotic blindfold guy is called Kaien," Kimberly introduced the guys.

"Hey, why are you calling me idiotic? Stop undermining my reputation," Kaien complained, snorting at Kimberly's words.

"Did I lie?" Kimberly looked at him with a smile.

Kaien flashed her a smile too. "I have a better proposition: why don't we fight to see who is the strongest?"Kimberly flinched when she heard this.

"Who would want to fight a battle maniac like you?" she grumbled.

"You, too, should stop disgracing yourself in front of the children." Charles shook his head, reminding them of where they were. Kimberly coughing when she remembered that they were at the awakening center; she could see the curious gazes on her.

As for Kaien, he was shameless himself, so the gazes didn't concern him.

"Eira, why don't you follow us? And yes, that S-rank talent too," Kimberly said.

The crowd looked at both of them, envious of their luck.

Kimberly and the boys left the hall with both children; no one knew what they wanted to do, but they felt they were so lucky.

Matt felt happy for Eira. But as she left, the crowd started comparing both of them together.

Even though they were beauties, their talents were different: trash and genius.

Matt listened to all of this; his expression didn't change. It looked like he couldn't even hear their words.

But deep down, it hurt him; he thought of his parents too. His mind was already going awry.

The awakening ceremony continued, but people weren't as excited as before, even though there was B-rank talent and A-rank talent Thinking of Eira and the black-haired young man's talent, they didn't feel joyous about their own.

The awakening ceremony reached its end with no other S or SS Rank Awakener.
