Chapter 16 - The Summoning at the Window

My girlfriend and I had been resting at home for a few days, trying to calm our hearts after all that had happened. But tonight, something terrifying occurred again. She suddenly said she heard someone calling her name from outside the window — but the name they used wasn't hers. It was my ex-wife's name, starting with the letter X.

I froze. My girlfriend's eyes turned hollow again, just like that night on the highway. She kept insisting that someone was outside, calling her, asking her to come out. Yet to me, there was nothing — no sound, no voice, no sign of anyone.

I held her tightly, trying to stop her from leaving, whispering, "There's no one there. Stay with me." But she kept struggling, as if under some invisible spell.

At that very moment, her mother texted me: "Your ex-wife has begun her ritual again. She's trying to summon your girlfriend away from you. Don't tell her the truth — if she knows, you two will be separated for sure."

Her message sent chills through my spine. She continued, "A master will remotely erase this memory soon. Do not panic."

I was stunned. Erase a memory? From a distance? It sounded impossible — like something out of a movie. Yet after everything we'd been through, I didn't know what to believe anymore. I had always been a firm materialist, someone who believed only in logic and science. But now, that belief was beginning to waver. Could there truly be unseen forces at work in this world? Spirits, curses, energies that defy reason?

Before I could think further, my girlfriend suddenly collapsed onto the sofa. My heart stopped. I called her name again and again — and after about five seconds, she opened her eyes. Her expression was calm, confused. "What happened?" she asked softly. She remembered nothing.

I sat beside her, trembling, feeling as if the boundary between the living and the spiritual had blurred before my eyes. What had just happened? Was the "erasure" real?

Her mother texted again: "Don't mention tonight to her again. Pretend nothing happened. Tomorrow, take her to a temple. Offer incense. The evil energy might fade with blessings."

I agreed, though my heart was heavy. That night, I stayed awake beside her, watching her sleep peacefully, her breathing soft and steady. Outside the window, the night was utterly silent — but I couldn't shake the feeling that something unseen was still watching us, waiting.

Perhaps this world truly hides more than our eyes can perceive. And I, once a man of logic, now stand at the edge of the unknown — caught between reason and the supernatural, between fear and love.
