Chapter 21 - Expected Betrayal

Upon entering the headquarters I could immediately feel that something here was off, it was hard to miss. It felt kind of empty compared to the usual.

"It is kind of odd that no one seems to be around." Reika mentioned while looking around.

I took the chance to make sure my deagle was reloaded just in case we encountered any enemies in here. Anything was possible at this point.

With a few glances I could see that the room around us was pretty clean as well.

There's no sign of anything here, not a single thing that could tell us what's going on. A sign of struggle would've been helpful at the very least since it would say we were attacked.

But I'm not seeing a damn thing. It definitely is setting the wrong kind of vibe for this whole situation.

"There's blood over there." Pinky spoke up with a serious tone.

Looking towards him I could see blood going down the hallway, that's exactly what we were looking for. The traitor was here the whole time so this means that people have already died.

I followed behind Pinky and Reika as they went down the hallway. Rezex stayed back for the time being to make sure no one snuck out behind us.

The lingering feeling of death was definitely quite strong inside of this building.

"Make sure to keep your guard up." Pinky advised.

"Already planned on it." I responded while keeping my deagle raised.

I'm definitely not going to let my guard down after everything we just dealt with at the depot. There's a lot going on behind the scenes that we don't seem to be aware of.

I'd like to take out whoever I can while I have the chance.

This will save me any competition in the future if I do it right so maybe this is a good opportunity. I just don't want to see anyone die from Karma right now.

Reika and Pinky could definitely be very useful to me in the long run.

As we reached the end of the hall I could hear brief chatter on the other side. It definitely didn't sound like our guys at all, this was going to be a problem.

"The team at the depot has been pretty quiet. It might be right to assume that they failed in their mission, leaving it to us to handle the situation." An unfamiliar voice said with disappointment.

"We'll handle them when they return." Another voice replied with a calm tone.

Stealth would probably be the best option for this situation since we don't know how many of them are actually here. I can't guarantee that this will be easy though.

Pinky is still pretty wounded and Reika doesn't have a lot of fire power at the moment.

A trip to the armory could've been smart.

It doesn't matter though because I have enough ammo for the time being, just my deagle isn't suppressed. Maybe this is an opportunity to use the LZR-01.

I holstered my deagle and pulled out the LZR-01, making sure it was already loaded. It didn't take me long to position myself properly.

"Stay back." I said quietly to the others.

I could see everything perfectly, it was time to take the shot. KRRRZZZ- BANG! Inside like this it was kind of loud but the bullet fired towards them without any time going to waste.

I watched as it pierced through both of their skulls, painting the floor with even more red than before.

There didn't appear to be anyone else around so this was the perfect opportunity to hear into the room. I kept the LZR-01 out and just looked for a decent spot to position myself for the time being.

It was the most effective way to watch over the whole room until Reika and Pinky finished clearing it.

"Make sure no one sneaks up on us Zero." Reika said with a serious tone in her voice.

"You got it." I replied while scanning the room.

I was originally going to watch over the room anyway so it didn't matter if she told me to or not. I'd be stupid to leave it entirely to Rezex since there's no telling if they'll get him or not.

This is definitely shaping up to look worse and worse by the second though. I hope the doc is okay, he's the one person I really need to talk to.

It'll also be a lot harder to figure out a way to find Renji if there's too much going on here.

The pain of being in a gang like this with very little influence. Fresh Meat really does hold no real power over any kind of decisions so it sucks.

I've kind of made my way up a bit though.

"Psst. Zero, I took care of the guys that tried to come from behind. Lotus/9 is definitely behind this." Rezex whispered from a few meters away.

His robotic voice made it hard to ignore what he says. I could tell that he was being serious about it at least.

"Expected betrayal. Smart people could've anticipated that." I responded quietly.

Reika is smart in a lot of ways I'm sure, but this was definitely not one of them. Anyone could assume that lotus/9 is not a group that can be trusted.

Killers like them have nothing to gain from the raid since killing soldiers doesn't mean much for them.

They've probably already killed soldiers before so it isn't even a new experience.

"Lotus/9 is also going to be a lot harder to deal with." Rezex said while keeping his voice down.

Splat! Blood hit the floor as it dripped down his arm quite a bit. They definitely got a pretty good hit off on him, something that isn't very surprising.

A group of killers doing the bare minimum when it comes to damage is a miracle in itself. Rezex got lucky that he didn't come out with worse wounds than that.
