Chapter 81 - Chapter 80: Ambition Soaring

The Guardians agreed to Sinestro's suggestion and entrusted Hal to him.

When this proposal was passed, Kilowog was still a bit unhappy. When Boudicca asked him about it, he just said:

"I'm the instructor here!"

Clearly, he still harbored some dissatisfaction with the Guardians assigning Hal to Sinestro, but he always respected the Guardians, so this dissatisfaction wasn't shown.

Hal just looked at Sinestro in confusion: "Do I know you?"

"No, you don't, but Abin Sur was my best friend!" Sinestro said.

In some comic book settings, Sinestro and Abin Sur were even in-laws, with Abin Sur's sister being Sinestro's wife.

However, in this Universe, they were just highly compatible comrades-in-arms.

And to achieve his ideals and ambitions, Sinestro had actually allowed Abin Sur's Death.

He knew how dangerous Parallax was, yet he didn't arrange for anyone to meet him beforehand.

But Hal didn't know any of this. Hearing that he and Abin Sur had a good relationship, he couldn't help but show some closeness.

There were too few aliens on Oa who were kind to the Human race; it was truly not easy for Sinestro to speak up for him.

At least, that's what Hal thought.

Afterward, Sinestro took him to the place where the Central Power Battery was stored.

This place was called the "Sanctuary," and the Central Power Battery looked like a giant lantern several stories high.

It was both the Green Lanterns' energy source and also stored all known information in this Universe.

When Abin Sur died, his message was updated in this Great Lantern in real-time.

However, due to the massive data volume of the energy source, many updates, though made, might not be discovered immediately.

People still need some time delay to process information; new messages are only noticed after they finish their current tasks.

Sinestro gazed deeply at the heart of Oa and asked Hal:

"Hal, do you know what this place is?"

Hal was about to say he didn't know, but the ring on his hand suddenly lit up automatically, and his eyes were covered with a green glow.

"This is the Central Power Battery, the energy source of the Green Lantern rings, the heart of Oa..."

"How... how did I know that?" Hal asked, surprised when he realized.

Sinestro was not surprised: "It seems your neural connection with the ring is very smooth. For an Earthling, it is undoubtedly excellent."

Then, Sinestro pointed his ring at the "Great Lantern," and a beam of green light shot directly into it.

A door opened in the center of the "Great Lantern," filled with green willpower energy.

"Come, Hal Jordan, every member must undergo this ritual."

"Point your ring at the lantern battery, and it will do the rest for you."

Hal stepped forward as instructed, taking a deep breath before pointing his ring at the battery.

Suddenly, a powerful stream of information entered his brain, and countless images of life forms flashed before Hal's eyes.

They were as vivid as if they were part of his own memory, assaulting his mind with a brutal force.

"Incredible!" he exclaimed involuntarily.

But Sinestro was not satisfied; he was surprised by Hal's receptiveness to this information, but this ritual was not like that.

So he pointed his ring at Hal, and a tentacle materialized from the center of the lantern symbol on the lantern ring, wrapping around Hal's arm.

Before Hal could react to what was happening, the tentacle suddenly yanked, pushing his arm and ring into the lantern battery.

Suddenly, an even more massive stream of information, far greater than before, flooded his mind, churning his brain into disarray.

Hal screamed uncontrollably, the intense pain from his brain operating at high speed was so strong that he couldn't think effectively anymore.

He saw many things: knowledge, images, scenes, and history.

Just as he tried to remember something, it was washed away by other incoming information.

As a result, the more he saw, the more he forgot.

It was as if his brain's CPU was completely burning out.

Seeing his goal achieved, Sinestro smiled and pulled Hal out.

He staggered backward, flying into the wall, then falling down, finally half-kneeling on the ground, gasping for breath.

His entire body was drenched in sweat, almost soaking his uniform, and his hair was wet and plastered to his scalp.

Sinestro praised, "Not bad. The last recruit burned off his antennae, but you're still conscious."

Hal's reply was weak, "Thanks for the compliment."

"You are indeed good, unlike others. I like humans."

"I like their spirit and their innate disdain for the powerful."

Hal seemed to hear a hidden meaning in his words and looked up in surprise.

Sinestro's eyes held deep meaning: "Here, everything is by the book. The Guardians want everything to remain eternally unchanged, but we all know that's impossible."

"Don't worry, the Guardians will keep an eye on you, but I only care about your aptitude."

"You have the potential to be a warrior, Hal. Don't waste it."

...On Earth.

Dane was now focused on one person.

Hector Hammond, he learned this name from Checkmate.

After Hal successfully became Green Lantern, Dane suddenly remembered that in the original movie, there was a scientist on Earth infected by yellow energy.

However, he didn't pay much attention to Green Lantern's story, and this character wasn't a very famous villain, so much so that for a while he couldn't recall his name at all.

Until recently, Amanda Waller came to Coast City.

How to put it, anything involving this woman should be carefully noted.

So he once again had Cortana hack into Amanda's phone.

Who told her to install the Kuaishou APP? He actually didn't install any programs on her phone; it was all Kuaishou's built-in backdoors.

All of Amanda's secrets were virtually open to Cortana.

And as soon as she got off the plane in Coast City, she went straight to the local Checkmate-funded laboratory.

There, she met Hector Hammond, who was already unrecognizable.

He now looked very strange, his head more than twice its original size, and his hair was almost completely gone.

His cheeks were swollen, and his skin was an unhealthy waxy yellow.

His eyes were filled with a yellow glow, making him look extremely evil.

"Hector Hammond, you are accused of murdering Senator Hammond. Do you have anything else to say?"

Not long after Hal left Earth, Hector found another opportunity to commit patricide.

And this time, no superhero came to save him; he died very cleanly and swiftly.

After killing his only relative in this World, Hector suddenly sobered up from that inexplicable emotion.

He just stared blankly at his father's corpse until security guards, hearing the commotion, burst through the door.

Hector was arrested by the local police without any resistance.

And Senator Hammond, unlike ordinary senators, had a close relationship with Checkmate behind the scenes.

The laboratory funded by Checkmate in Coast City actually had his Shadow behind it.

But no one expected that his son would kill him.

This disrupted Checkmate's plans in Coast City.

They still hadn't figured out who You-Know-Who was, the one who saved the Senator and Carol at Ferris's celebration party.

And reverse engineering the alien spaceship materials hadn't made much progress. At this time, such an incident occurred, urgently requiring a capable person to take charge.

Upon learning of this, Amanda volunteered to come.

She had a hunch that there was clearly a linear connection between Hector and the alien incident.

Files showed that Hector had accompanied Checkmate to investigate the spaceship crash site.

She believed he most likely had a third kind of contact with some unknown alien life at that time.

And Hector's own changes and his insane behavior towards his father were also very likely caused by the influence of this third kind of contact.

Dane, seeing this, couldn't help but admire this woman's keen insight; she had almost completely guessed the whole story.

However, Amanda's subsequent actions made Dane very regretful.

Amanda tried to persuade Hector to become her subordinate and work for her.

Dane knew she had always been recruiting super-criminals with special abilities in Gotham, but he didn't expect her to be so bold.

She seemed to have never thought that a large part of why criminals are criminals is because they don't obey discipline.

And how could you, a perfectly ordinary clerk, think you could put dog chains on the necks of a bunch of vicious super-criminals?

Just because you're dark enough?
