Chapter 6 - Abandoned Belief

 Nothing ever remains the same

Soon we will even lose our name

To the light of a dreadful new day

A bet if things will change or stay

***

We swore that love will not become fickle

But the tastes of despair and loss slowly trickle

Into every sense we still cling to and have

Taking from us every tear and every laugh

Ah, the path just becomes harder

If we do not bow to the will of fate

And even when we do, nothing is left of our ardor

And love is slowly consumed by a sudden hate

I want to keep calling your name before I sleep

Even as this only brings pain now not relief

As the hours of the night grow long and deep

Your name is lost like an abandoned belief

I want to keep dreaming of you beside me

Even if this brings a longing nothing can quench

As the falling darkness renders things difficult to see

I find myself along your image drowning in a rainy trench

***

The whiffs of the morning bring me your scent

Filled with unsent letters of a deep grief

I can tell no more what my promises meant

Frail against the wind like a falling leaf

Ah, the road just grows more bleak

Our future will not grant us a guiding star

Believing we still know what we seek

But can it remain the same as we are afar

I want to feel your warmth amidst this cold storm

And indulge myself in a beautiful memory repeated again

Not a stale play I am continuously asked to perform

Until I seek it myself ignoring its tragedy and pain

I want to keep your image as it is in my mind

Never defiled by the brutality of these days

But it is a lost gleam my eyes refuse to find

As my heart these cruel games accepts and plays

 ***

I want to never forget the purity we once shared

When my heart was not tainted and lost

The true love we were not afraid of and bared

Galringly to everyone despite its cruel cost

I want to keep calling your name before I sleep

Even as this only brings pain now not relief

As the hours of the night grow long and deep

Your name awakens me from this slumber

Through nights and days I cannot number

Found again like an abandoned belief
