Some time later,
"Recently, a new type of epidemic virus has appeared in New York City. Citizens are advised to take personal protective measures when going out, wear masks, wash hands frequently, and if the following symptoms appear, the CDC advises all citizens to seek medical attention quickly…"
The news channel was broadcasting about an unknown flu, but even the CDC, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was only treating it as a common flu.
When the weather is cold, large-scale flu outbreaks are prone to occur. With this attitude, many citizens did not take it to heart, thinking they could just take some medicine.
But Eller was not in that mindset at all. He felt that someone was definitely behind this flu.
Last night, Eller had already collected samples from several patients and handed them over to Dr. Connors for analysis.
Dr. Connors said he would have the results today. Eller glanced at the time and realized it was almost time. The lab employees should be off work, so he could set off.
Soon after, Eller arrived at the Osborn Group's biological laboratory as Kamen Rider Geats.
Theoretically, only Dr. Connors should be in the lab, but today there was a slight change.
"Dr., the simulation experiment report is out."
A blonde girl, perfectly embodying youthful beauty, placed a report next to Dr. Connors. At this moment, a knowledgeable young man also said to Dr. Connors:
"Dr., I think we can adjust the decay rate algorithm…"
This young man was naturally Peter Parker, and the blonde girl was probably Gwen Stacy. Eller could feel that her life essence was somewhat off, probably meaning she also gained spider abilities at the tech expo.
The three of them were busy in the laboratory, as if nothing could interrupt them.
'Cough, cough, cough'
Suddenly, a fourth sound rang out as Eller burst into the room.
Gwen and Peter were the first to notice the extra person in the room. They both looked towards Eller, and Gwen, who had only heard of the Kamen Rider legend, was even more surprised:
"You are that urban legend?"
"The real deal, beautiful lady," Eller tilted his head slightly, a hint of a smile in his voice.
At this point, Peter began to speak up for Eller, "Don't worry, Gwen, he's not a bad guy. He's here to help us."
"I don't think he's a bad guy, it's just…" Gwen didn't finish her sentence before Dr. Connors interrupted her and shared a piece of information.
"Your guess is correct. Someone did create a virus that turns people into lizard monsters. Look."
With that, Dr. Connors raised his remaining hand and pointed into the air. A holographic projection appeared before Eller.
"This virus initially resembles the flu, but later, the lizard's abilities will manifest in the patient. What's worse, this virus affects the essence of a living being. We replicated the infection process on a white mouse and ultimately created a bloodthirsty lizard-mouse."
Dr. Connors's words made Eller frown slightly, meaning that all citizens in New York City could be potential enemies.
Thinking of this, Eller then asked Dr. Connors, "When will the virus break out? Is there enough time to make a vaccine?"
"In a week, the first wave of patients will show lizard abilities. In ten days, their sanity will slowly crumble. According to my estimate, the number of first-batch infected individuals will be in the tens of thousands," Dr. Connors said with his eyes closed.
At this moment, Peter brought good news to Eller, "But we can make a vaccine before then."
"But how to vaccinate the citizens is also a problem," Dr. Connors said with some distress, his eyes drooping, looking exhausted.
Upon hearing this, Gwen thought of a prototype machine at the Osborn Group and said, "I remember Osborn has a prototype machine on the top floor that can disperse medicine throughout the city. If we can use that prototype machine to spread an inhalable vaccine, we can minimize the harm."
"Gwen, that's a great idea!" Peter praised.
Upon hearing this, Dr. Connors thought for a moment, then nodded, "That certainly works."
"It seems you have two excellent assistants, Dr. Connors," Eller said with a slight smile.
Peter and Gwen were also rare talents, and coupled with Dr. Connors, an experienced scientist, the efficiency of the three of them would likely surpass that of an entire research team.
Dr. Connors adjusted his glasses, then smiled, "They are both rare talents. At least I couldn't achieve this level when I was their age."
"Then keep up the good work," Eller encouraged. "I'll go find more samples for you."
"Then take these."
Dr. Connors pointed to a table where some sampling bottles were placed. Eller only needed to swab the infected person's throat with a medical cotton swab, then break off the swab and put it into the sampling bottle to get a sample.
Subsequently, Eller left Osborn and went into the city to find more samples.
… … … … … … … … … … …
Late at night
In an abandoned construction site, Eller finished a combat lesson with Peter.
Peter's progress was very fast. In just a few days, he was close to developing his own fighting style, and his strength and reaction time had significantly improved.
After the lesson, Peter and Eller sat on a concrete pipe, resting.
"By the way, senior," Peter suddenly asked Eller, "Do you think that big lizard will patiently wait until the virus breaks out on a large scale before acting?"
"No," Eller shook his head, then took out a newspaper from his dimensional pocket. Handing it to Peter, he said:
"The true identity of that red lizard monster is Kletus Cassidy, a serial killer who once shocked the nation. He takes pleasure in killing, as if he doesn't see his victims as his own kind. His crimes are so severe that they rank among the top fifteen serial killers in U.S. history. What do you think such a person would do?"
"As soon as they have a chance, they will expose themselves to the World's attention, and this might only be to satisfy his selfish desires. Honestly, looking at these eyes makes me feel uneasy."
Peter said, looking at the newspaper in his hand. The newspaper showed Kletus Cassidy's mugshot. Although his hands and feet were bound by shackles, his eyes were still full of murderous desire.
At this moment, Peter had a flash of inspiration and thought of a possibility.
"Senior, do you think they will target the prototype machine at the top of the Osborn Group?"
"They won't have that chance," Eller smiled.
At the same time, somewhere in New York City, a figure opened his eyes, letting out a strange giggle.
"Heh heh, it'll be ready soon. I can feel more and more of my kind, and my power is growing stronger. This feeling is truly wonderful."
