Chapter 2 - You killed her

Stephanie's POV

Against the voice of reason in my head, I took slow, purposeful steps towards the living room. Part of me, the good part, wanted to stop and just go back but the thought of Myron's reaction propelled me forward.

"She's my wife to be." I heard Myron say and I froze.

Wife to be? How? We were still married. It felt as though my heart was being ripped from my chest. Who was this man?

"Finally, you've brought a woman home. What's her name?"

"Tiffany sir. Tiffany Davis."

Tiffany? Davis? My sister?

No, no, no, this can't be happening. I moved forward a bit from where I was hiding and my worst fears were confirmed, it was indeed Tiffany. She was leaning on Myron and smiling like she'd just won the lottery.

I couldn't breathe. I felt my whole body shaking and my vision was starting to blur. Now it all made sense. Their closeness. All this while, I thought he was just trying to win her approval but seeing this now...and as if that wasn't enough, they dropped another bomb on me.

"We just found out she's pregnant so we want to do things fast."

That did it! My knees buckled and I turned and began walking away. I somehow managed to find the back door and snuck out. I felt broken. The tears that pooled around my eyes were falling freely now.

Did Myron ever love me or was I nothing more than a tool for him. He'd never introduced me to his family, not one of them. He claimed his family was dangerous and complicated and they were out for him and he didn't want to put me in harms way but here he was, proudly introducing Tiff to his father. I'd always pressed for a child but he said to hold on. He wanted us to be financially stable and all but Tiff was already pregnant for him?

Did our six years together mean nothing? Was it all a lie? All my sacrifices, my hard work and sweat, it all meant nothing. My chest was starting to feel right and I was struggling hard to breathe.

I don't know how long I walked but by the time I got home, it was dark. I had made up my mind.

I would fix this. I had yo. There's no way Myron didn't love me. How do you not love a woman who stood by you for six years. She could have opened her own business and still succeed but she dedicated her time and strength towards making you rich. Even at times she was sick, she still went out, just for you. You can't just unlove her like that. Something was definitely wrong. Maybe he was being threatened or blackmailed.

The door was ajar when I entered. The living room was a mess. Clothes scattered everywhere. Was that a bra?

No! Not again!

I ran upstairs and froze by the door. They were at it again. So this wasn't a mistake? He betrayed me? They betrayed me?

"Go slow Myron, you don't want to hurt the baby, do you?"

Their moans and the wet slap of skin on skin sounded like a horror score in my ears. I clapped my hands over my mouth, trying to block it out, but the sound burrowed into me. I felt like I was losing my mind.

"F**k! I cumming!"

"Yes! Cum for me baby!"

For a long moment everything fell quiet. I listened to their quiet breathing, the soft rustle as they cuddled together.

"So, what are you going to do about her?" I heard Tiffany ask.

"Her? Who?"

"Who else? Stephanie of course! You know I'm not having this baby if we don't get married."

"That's easy. Steph isn't a problem."

"Yes, she is. She loves you and might not agree to give you a divorce."

"She doesn't have to."

"What do you mean?"

"Our marriage isn't valid. It's all fake. The certificate, the pastor. It was all fake."

Oh God! Will it ever end? I suddenly felt dizzy and everything spun. I wanted to die. How far did this go? I was going to find out.

Without thinking, I rushed in, going straight for him. "I'll kill you, you bastard."

He caught me mid air and flung me aside with ease. "Took you long enough." He said, reaching for Tiffany and pulling her closer.

I landed back on the floor with a heavy thud, groaning.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Is Stephanie hurt?" I could hear the contempt in her voice.

"What did I ever do to you?" I asked finally breaking down. "I loved you...

"Oh shut it with the love Steph. I've had six years of that and it's disgusting. Tiffany is the one I love." He said kissing her.

"Then why didn't you go for her? Why put me through all this?"

"It was all my idea." Tiffany swung down from the bed and walked toward me with that smug, predatory smile. "You were always so proud. So untouchable, like some trophy on a shelf. I wanted to break you, to watch you crumble and I will confess, it's exhilarating."

"But I showed you nothing but true love. Even when your mother was the mistress, even when your mother was the reason my mother died, even when.....

I felt a sharp sting on my cheeks. She'd slapped me.

"Shut the hell up! Love? You have me crumbs, that's what you did. Your mother was rich but when I asked for something, you both denied me."

"That's because....

"I don't want to hear it. Now that she's dead, what are you doing to do. You're nothing Stephanie. Your sis years meant nothing. You're just someone he kept as a project.

Something in my chest snapped. The words hit harder than any fist. I lunged, fingers finding her shoulders, driven by a sudden, hot panic. "Shut up—"

She shoved me. I shoved back.

Tiffany staggered, lost her footing, and hit the edge of the low table. There was a sickening crack. She slumped to the floor, a red bloom spreading at the back of her head.

My eyes widened on seeing blood pool around her head. My blood froze. I rushed to her side, grabbed at her, and then heard Myron's curse as he scrambled down the bed.

"Tiffany! Tiffany, wake up!" he screamed. She didn't move.

"You killed her. You killed her, you slut! You'll pay for this!" he shouted, eyes wild, pointing at me as if I had murdered her with my hands.

As if on cue, the door burst open and the cops rushed in straight for me.

"Mrs Stephanie Davis, you're under arrest for murder."
