Chapter 6 - "R" There's something strange about the Assistant. (II)

"Well well well!"

The Host sat in their usual chair.

"Today's a wonderful day! helloeverybodymynameisKristima and this is my assistant– sub."

They looked at the sub.

The sub blinked.

"O-Oh hello! It's me again…"

"Argalia here subbed because…! Because!!!! I said so."

So says the smiley man.

"Todays guest of fanfare, hailing from the mystical preshence, wandering, A-D-zen!!"

Out came a man. More boy-like than anything.

Sat on a chair like the one before.

"Hello." a soft smile with curtsy.

"The backstory! Oh the backstory!"

Argon looks at The dramatic Host.

"...Do you mind telling us a bit about yourself?"

"Hm, if it's fine with you."

"Oh!" her eyes lit up. "It is!"

"My name, is Azen. I came from Gallet. Or I suppose Radlivun? It matters not much to be frank."

"Oh. Uh…"

"Where's the sob backstory bro?!"

Azen lightly shook his head.

"How can I come up with one right now?"

"Damn okay."

"Ah yes." He snapped their fingers. "My department is Wandering Presence. Currently working on repaying."

"Repaying?"

Azen merely chuckled in response.

"Without that… I suppose I am a mere shell?"

"...Huh."

Blanked Argon.

"Wait she didn't give me my five dolla–"

"S-Should we do questions?"

The Host looked at Argon with a glance.

"Ye sure."

"A-Alright!"

"Giiiiiiiive to me!!!!!! Quesnons!!!!!!!!! Uh, when you're done."

Like before papers and markers flew to the audience.

"I kinda want a burger."

"A burger?"

"How much gluttony do you hold?" Azen asked.

"Enough to eat your mom!"

"So she must have been eaten."

"That's right!" A vicious voice came out of The Host.

Argon was just lost.

"What… kind of burger..?"

"Uh… I dunno. Maybe two patties."

The papers flew back and landed on Azen's lap.

He smiled.

"I believe they should be with you."

A duck looking face of not believing came on The Host's face.

"What, wh– oh. S-Sure." Argon took them instead.

"Quesnon time!"

The first question.

"Are… you really blind?"

"Yes."

"Um, if so, why?" word for word she read. Mostly.

"My eyes are not so kind to look at. As for how they became like this…"

Azen lost his smile.

"A decision and betrayal."

The second question.

"Where is Gallet." Argon's eyes read the add on. "...And Radlivun."

"Sansetia. Radlivun is a continent to the east. Though that information isn't very useful. Correct, miss Argon?"

Argon narrowed her eyes on the paper.

The third question.

"What are you repaying?"

"A small betrayal caused…" he didn't say anything after that.

"O-Kay…"

The fourth question.

"What are you wearing?"

"I, myself, don't know. They dress for me. They tell me it's the standard issue uniform. Soulswear. They also gave me a cloak. I'm not sure of it's use yet."

"Oh yeah that'll be told later." The Host chimed in.

"I see…"

Contradictory.

The fifth question.

"Uh.. am I allowed to read this one..?"

"Wah." The Host looked at it. "Mmmm sure…"

"What… Do you know about…" Argon looked at The Host who was smugly smiling evilly. "And what were you doing in the destruction…"

"Destruction? Merely passing by. Being picked on. Usual happenstances. The Wandering Presence does not stay long in a single spot."

Azen stroked his chin with his hand.

"I don't see how I was involved."

"Alright vampeer! It's not gamin time!"

"Why?" Azen tilted his head.

"Well. This one I need to get a thing from the back so… that takes time. We'll be right back with this one!"

"A-Are we sure about this?"

"Ya yab yab."

"Do enlighten this poor fool who cannot see."

The back was full of strange things.

Many cords run on the floor with a snaking winding throughout everything.

"Kay, not this room…"

They looked at a paper and kept walking.

"What are… we getting?"

"In her room."

"Frankly a mule would be far more reliable than the words of Them." Azen chuckled softly.

"B-But what about…"

"They play along. The line I am not sure where, once crossed will be the deciding factor."

His hand ran until an intersection was reached.

"Ah. Miss Argon, would you mind pointing me to the direction?"

They left and promptly disappeared.

"Um… your hand."

I took his hand and dragged him to follow.

"Oh, certainly this keeps pace."

We caught up to Them staring at a door.

A look of understanding appeared on Their face as they waited for us.

Smiling bloomed as they turned their head.

"Weeeeeeeeell. Come here." They gestured.

They faced the door again.

"We shall ask! Agree?"

"Y-Yes!"

"Mm."

They opened the door. I blinked. The scent of chilling cold entered my nostrils alongside that noticeable metallic scent.

My ears heard a splitting sound.

On the floor was Them.

Azen locked onto Them without my help. "No breath. Hm."

They were dead.
