Chapter 102 - The Shape of Something Unspoken

The gathering began at dusk.

Matthew never hosted without purpose.

He told everyone it was simple — a small dinner, trusted allies, familiar faces. A celebration of the baby. A toast to stability.

But Matthew never did anything without layers.

Security was doubled.

Not visibly.

But deliberately.

Cars were screened before entering the estate gates. Staff rotated in tighter shifts. The perimeter cameras had been recalibrated that morning.

No one questioned it.

They were used to Matthew being careful.

They just didn't realize he was never only careful.

He was anticipating.

Vinny stood at the top of the staircase, smoothing down the front of his fitted charcoal suit. He looked soft in color but sharp in presence — hair loosely styled, eyes warm but alert.

Matthew stepped behind him, adjusting the cuff at his wrist.

"You're nervous," Vinny said quietly.

"I'm observant."

Vinny smiled faintly. "That's your word for it."

Matthew leaned closer, voice lowering.
