Chapter 4 - Late!

Aurora

The smooth, silky voice snaps me out of my distress, causing me to whip my head to the side.

I raise my brow as my eyes are blessed with a ridiculously handsome creature. The first thing I notice about him is his golden amber eyes.

They look like melted sunlight trapped in his gaze. They just radiate this warmth I can't quite fathom. His golden brown hair pairs beautifully with his eyes, giving him the glow of the golden-yellow sunset.

And boy, he is tall. With decently broad shoulders, and a nice chest, I think I might—

 Damn it.

I realize suddenly that I have been staring, which is rude.

When I tear my eyes away from him, I notice the crowd has disappeared. Leaving just me, this otherworldly man, Zuriel and Alisha.

"Well, he- yes, he was bothering me," I nod, all of my irritation come running back.

I turn to face Zuriel who is staring at him, but not the awestruck kind of gaze, but a much different one. One that screams death, and rage.

"Let go of the nice woman , Zuriel; don't be pitiful," he tilts his head to the side.

"What are you doing here? I thought you had left the pack for good?" Zuriel sneers at him, finally letting me go.

"Oh, so you thought," he shrugs, "Aren't you glad we have finally reunited again.. brother?" A small indifferent smirk curls his lips up.

Brother? Did I hear that right? I don't remember seeing this man at my wedding, Zuriel never even mentioned he had a brother!

I turn to the man with my mouth hanging open, then back to Zuriek, then back at him again. These people look nothing alike!

Zuriel grinds his teeth, his veins popping up at the base of his neck.

"Don't you dare call me that! You are a–"

The man gives him one icy stare, and he shuts up mid sentence.

"I see you have somewhere important to go to. Don't let this child ruin your plans. You can go ma'am, sorry for the inconvenience," he gives me a slight bow.

I return the gesture, "Thank you very much."

I turn on my heels to walk towards my son who has been patiently waiting for me in the car.

Oh no, it's not as easy as you think, as it's supposed to be.

Someone grabs my arm, pulling me back.

"You can't ignore me Aurora, I have already begged you, what else do you want?"

"Ugh, what's your problem man? I have a child waiting for me in that car!" I try not to scream again, but this bastard is just making it so hard for me.

"Since when did you become so pitiful?" A hand gently, but firmly pulls my hand away from his.

"This is none of your business Klaus, stay the fuck out of this!" He yells.

The man– Klaus, chuckles. A fine, deep rumbling sound that blesses my ears and my core.

"It's my responsibility to keep my younger brother in check," he pulls me away, "See you later, little brother."

 "Aurora please!"

"What's the matter with you? You're embarrassing me!" Alisha finally yells at him.

Klaus leads me to the driver's seat of my car, "I'm really sorry. He has always had bad tantrums, don't mind this stupid one of his."

"I put up with it for six bad years," I mutter to myself, finally tucking myself in the driver's seat.

"Thank you so much, sir. Thank you," I give him the sweetest smile I can muster before driving away.

I turn to my left to see Raphael boring holes in my head with his eyes.

"What just happened? I heard everything," he crosses his arms across his chest.

"Since when did you start to eavesdrop?" I scowl at him.

"You were literally talking so loud," he spreads his arms to make an emphasis on his words.

 Nice work Zuriel.

"Are you keeping his son hostage? He said he wanted to see his son when he was holding your leg."

I clutch the steering wheel so hard to stop me from crashing out.

"Well.. he's.. he's not well in the head, that's why he's behaving that way."

"Take him to a hospital then. You have a lot of money, and you can help him. You say we should always help others," he looks at me with wide eyes.

Oh my child, that man is different! He wanted you dead!

I swallow my words, and don't respond to that. Right now I have a board meeting, and I can't afford to be late. I'm about to have my big breakthrough, because a very powerful CEO has taken interest in my work.

If I can get him to collaborate or invest in it, then my success will skyrocket. I might even become the most powerful, and richest, female CEO around the seven packs.

So a question a four year old asked me should be the least of my problems right now.

...

It's three minutes to the meeting hour– three pm, and I have just packed outside the building of my company.

"Raphael I'm so late!'" I gasp, undoing my seatbelt, and his.

"What?" He asks.

I open the door, jumping out of it not caring if I break my heel, and crash to the ground. Luckily I don't, because that would have been a disaster.

I run around the bonnet, getting to Raphael, and opening the car door for him. He also jumps out, and tucks his soft little hand in mine.

"Come on, let's go!" I close the car door, and together we run inside.

"I'm never going on a shopping spree with you when I'm at work again!" I grumble, running towards the elevator.

Raphael probably thinks this is some kind of game, because his giggles fill the air.

"This tickles mommy!"

"Ugh. I'll definitely give you an earful when we get home."

I get to the elevator, and breeze in, my heart pounding so hard, the whole building night actually hear it.

This is the first meeting with the big shot industry, and I'm already making a bad impression by coming late.

"Oh no, no," I whimper as I look at my watch.

Two minutes after three pm.

Fuck it! Damn you Zuriel!

"Come on elevator, go faster," I groan, palming my head.

"Go faster!" Raphael hits the wall.

"Oh don't do that," I sigh. I sometimes forget I have a kid around me.

The elevator eventually comes to a halt, and I yank him out with me.

I make a stop at my receptionist's office, and hand Raphael to her, apologizing for the inconvenience. Luckily for me, she's a sweet lady, and she understands.

I then rush to the board room that's a little down the hall.

I race with all might, getting to the boardroom at exactly eight minutes after three pm.

Fuck me.

I bend down to hold my knees to catch my breath before going in.

"You could have saved yourself all that trouble, ma'am," a silky voice says.

Pause.

Silky voice?
