"Don't move," Daniel said, voice a little too calm to be safe.
I froze, half-smiling. "Why does it sound like you're about to start trouble?"
"Because I am." He stepped in, close enough that I felt his breath against my ear. "Trust me?"
"That's a loaded question," I said, with waiting despiration that he'll ruin me, and I'm gonna take it ALL!
He pulled a silky ribbon from his back pocket, dark and soft. "It's not what you think."
"Yeah, okay," I said, still smirking, "that's exactly what people say when it's absolutely what I think."
He grinned, lazy and lethal. "Shut up, Maya."
Then the ribbon slipped over my eyes.
Everything changed.
The world shrank to sound and heartbeat and the faint warmth radiating from where he stood.
