Chapter 13 - The ring.

📖 Chapter Thirteen:

[The ring]

The safe house in Enugu was quiet, but tension pulsed like a heartbeat. Kite had recovered enough to walk. Dimeji's shoulder was healing. Ejiro had stopped cursing love—temporarily.

Then the call came.

Kite:

"The boy from Nsukka. The one drawing veil symbols. He's been found… but Luc has him, in a leash, his with the erasers."

Nkemdilim (alarmed):

"Found? Where? We have to rescue him."

Dimeji:

"A hideout near the old shrine in Nsukka. We move now—with backup."

🧠 The Legacy of the Ring

As they drove, Nkemdilim clutched her necklace. It pulsed faintly. She remembered her mother's words:

"This necklace carries memory. Yours. Mine. And those yet to come."

The boy—Chimobi—had a ring. Ancient. Etched with the same symbols. Passed down from his grandfather, a revered spiritualist who once walked with the veil.

They weren't related. But they were connected.

🕵️‍♂️ The Hideout

The team arrived with a small police unit. The hideout was buried in the hills, surrounded by silence.

Then the lead Eraser stepped out—tall, masked, voice like gravel.

Eraser Commander:

"You came for the boy. But he's already chosen."

Behind him stood Chimobi, eyes glowing faintly, ring shimmering.

Dimeji (to the cops):

"Secure the perimeter."

But before they could move—Chimobi raised his hand.

The ring pulsed.

The police dropped their weapons. Eyes glazed. Minds blank.

Ejiro (in pidgin):

"Wetin be this? Na juju or Bluetooth?"

Kite:

"He's using veil-based mind control. Luc taught him."

Nkemdilim (stepping forward):

"Chimobi. You don't have to do this."

Chimobi (coldly):

"You wear the necklace. I wear the ring. We are the same. But I see clearer now. Luc showed me."

Nkemdilim:

"He's using you. The veil isn't meant to control—it's meant to protect."

Chimobi:

"Then why did it choose me?"

The symbols on his ring flared. Nkemdilim's necklace responded—glowing, resisting.

She reached out.

Nkemdilim:

"Because we're both sides of the same coin. But you've been flipped."

Chimobi (voice trembling):

"I… I can't stop it."

The Eraser commander stepped forward.

Eraser:

"He doesn't need to stop. He needs to obey."

Suddenly—Kite fired. The commander dropped. The spell broke. The police gasped, regaining consciousness.

Chimobi collapsed, breathing hard.

Dimeji:

"We need to get him out. Now.
