Chapter 9 - The Necromancer Named Nathaniel

Arty snapped her fingers, causing vines to appear from the ground and wrap around Nathaniel in an instant. The vines constricted his body tightly, keeping him in place as Arty gave him a warm smile.

Nathaniel scowled, "Let go of me!!"

Arty lowered her broom towards the ground and flicked her wrist towards her, "No."

Nathaniel was then flung towards her, and a piece of the vine extended towards the end of the broom, tying itself to it. Nathaniel was struggling to get free, but he felt his power being drained, his eyes getting heavy.

"W-What is this?!" He exclaimed, "Magic?!"

"Of course it is, silly." Arty said with a chuckle, sitting down on the broom, "What else would it be?"

Then, without warning, the broom shot into the air, dragging Nathaniel along with it as he was tied to the end of it.

"Ahhh!!" he shouted as he flailed around while the broom flew towards the forest, "What the fuck?!"

He looked below him, seeing how the rocky hills immediately turned into a thick patch of woods, having already reached them within seconds. He felt the vines coil tightly around his body, keeping him from moving his muscles, all of his body bound by whatever spell Arty had hit him with.

The broom then shot down through the trees, causing Nathaniel to hit some branches hard, the sound of snapping was heard loud and clear as some leaves got in his mouth.

Within seconds, Nathaniel was flung downwards, hitting the ground hard as the vines snapped, releasing him. His body rolled on the ground, hitting a log hard as he grunted loudly in pain.

"Arghh...." He got to his knees, "What the hell just happened.....?"

"I took you to my territory." Arty said as she was sitting down on the broom, floating above him, near the branches of the trees, "Hota's gang won't find you so easily should they start searching. Those two are alive after all. They will alert their Boss, and if they don't get killed, they will lead the other bandits to hunt you down."

Nathaniel was panting as he rubbed his shoulder, feeling pain all over his body, "Dammit...."

"You look famished....." Arty smiled, "And tired. Fighting an Orc would be rough, even if he doesn't have magic. But you were able to handle him well. I can tell that you're decently strong."

Nathaniel stood up to his feet, "I....I guess....."

"But not strong enough to contend with actual magic users." Arty said, "But I am quite curious.....what is your deal? Can you only summon one skeleton? What sort of Necromancy do you use? How did you obtain the power? What tome did you read? Who taught it to you? Questions I need answers to...."

Nathaniel looked down and spat on the ground, "I figured you were one.....considering those fuckers wanted to give you my skull after I was gutted and my organs used in a ritual." He said, "And you're saying you aren't a Necromancer?"

Arty frowned, "A ritual?" She asked, "Oh, that Ritual. Hota is a damned Cultist, I swear. And no, I'm not a Necromancer. I do sometimes trade human skulls to a Necromancer that isn't in this kingdom, though. I store the skulls that she'd accept and wait for her courier to arrive. But I'm not one."

"...Okay." Nathaniel said

"But you're not answering my questions." Arty said

"I don't know how I got this damn power, your guess is as good as mine." Nathaniel said

"Good one." Arty snapped her fingers and a small wooden wand appeared in her hand, "But I won't take that for an answer."

She pointed the wand at him and a quick bolt of lightning shot at Nathaniel, striking him in the foot and causing him to jerk backwards in pain.

"Arghh!!!" He shouted, "The fuck?!"

"What tome did you read to learn Necromancy? Who taught you that Black Magic?" She asked, "I may be shunned from the Great College of Sorceries, but I am still an 'ethical' Witch. Necromancy is outlawed and forbidden in these lands. I wish to find the source and destroy it. Not you, though. You seem.....interesting....."

Nathaniel glared at her, "Is it a fight you want?"

"Maybe." Arty smirked, "Why? Do you want to fight?"

"Summon Skeleton"

A skeleton emerged from the dirt ground, its mouth clattering loudly as it held a short rusty dagger in its hand. It stood to its feet as Nathaniel extended his arm outwards, still looking at Arty with a serious glare.

"Necrotic Pull"

Two pieces of bone flew towards his hand, and as he grabbed them, he flung them at Arty, the bones shooting straight at the Witch.

Arty flicked her wand, firing two quick bolts of lightning at them. One of the pieces snapped, and the pieces still shot at her face. She moved her head as they grazed her hair while another piece hit her broom, nearly bucking her from it.

"Oh?" Arty said with a chuckle, "Nice. Necrotic Pull, was it not? Yes, that is a basic spell, but I didn't think you're quite good with the Telekinetic ability it momentarily grants. But here....this is real Telekinesis!"

She pointed the wand at a tree as a white light shone from its tip.

Nathaniel watched as the entire tree was pulled out of the ground, "The fuck?!"

Arty flicked the wand, sending the tree flying at him, "Take that~"

Nathaniel threw himself at the ground, avoiding the tree and hearing as it hit another tree, the loud crash resounding through the air. He noticed his skeleton had also done the same, avoiding destruction.

He then straightened up and glared at Arty, "I'll show you!"

"Summon Skeleton!"

Another Skeleton emerged from the ground, a loud clatter coming from its mouth as it had a short bow with a quiver on its hip.

"Oh?" Arty said as the Skeleton readied the bow and fired an arrow at her

She swiped the wand, blocking the rusty arrow with an invisible barrier. Amused by this, Arty simply sat on her broom, not caring that Nathaniel had run below her line of sight. She also noticed that the first Skeleton was repositioned as the new one was firing another arrow at her.

"So I can have two at a time?" Nathaniel thought as he was behind Arty on the ground, picking up a rock, "My MP is low now...at 20.....but I'm glad I can have two Skeletons out. I figured I could since I could easily summon a second one. With Necrotic Pull and a single Skeleton Use, I have enough for another Skeleton summon...this ring came in handy.....but a bow and arrow? I wonder what happened to the Modern Warfare Aspect?"

"Nathaniel, was it?" Arty said as she looked behind her, "That is your name?"

"Yes." He nodded as he flung a stone at her

The stone was deflected by an invisible barrier of Telekinesis, causing Arty to smirk slightly.

"Interesting.....a Necromancer named Nathaniel..." She said as she flicked the wand at the bow and arrow Skeleton, zapping it with a quick bolt of lightning, "I meant what I said about that being blasphemous. St. Nathaniel is a god-like figure, being one of the most beloved mages in this world's history. So any Necromancer named that is simply desecrating his memory. "

The Skeleton crumbled in an instant, having been defeated by a single attack.

"Dammit...." Nathaniel said

"Nathan!' Arty said, "For now, I shall call you Nathan!"

"What?" He frowned as Arty pointed the wand at him

"Nathan The Necromancer~" She fired a bolt of lightning at him

The bolt struck him in the chest, causing him to widen his eyes as his entire body stiffened up and flew backwards.

"Arghh!" He hit a tree hard, hitting the back of his head hard, "Ohh...."

He collapsed to the ground, his eyes rolling to the back of his head as he lost consciousness.

Arty chuckled as the other Skeleton immediately crumbled, ".....his Necromancy is quite impressive...." She said as she lowered herself down,

"Interesting.."
