The Storm
Lightning flashes again, brilliant and blinding.
In that brief light, I see everything on his face. Want. Fear. Desire. The last threads of restraint fraying before my eyes.
Thunder follows almost immediately. The building shakes with the force of it, rattling the windows in their frames.
"We should stay away from the windows," he says, his voice rough.
But he doesn't move toward safety. He moves toward me instead, closing the distance like he can't help himself.
"Ethan..."
"I know. I know we're supposed to maintain distance. I know this is the worst possible decision. I know all of it." His words come faster now, tumbling over each other. "I know the dean just warned us. I know we agreed to boundaries. I know everything we're risking."
Another flash illuminates the office. He's closer now. Close enough to touch. Close enough that I can see the conflict written across his face.
