Matthew Atkinson & Natalie Russell
Second Layer of the Supernatural Realm
A bright moon hung in the sky.
The bright moonlight shone on the earth, making the night in the supernatural realm not so dark.
It could even be said that the brightness was higher than it had been at dusk.
Professor Holland was right.
Such an environment didn't significantly affect their visibility.
Especially for supernatural individuals like Matthew and Natalie, who possessed high mental attributes, they were almost unaffected.
"Matthew, something's not right with the moon." Natalie suddenly spoke up.
Matthew was taken aback. He looked up at the sky and carefully examined the bright moon hanging in the air.
After watching for a while, he finally noticed that the edge of the bright moon was faintly reddish.
The red color was very faint and scarce. It was almost invisible unless you looked closely.
"Is the color wrong?" Matthew said. "I think I see some reddish light in the moonlight."
Natalie said, "Besides the strange color, the moonlight seems to be affecting our minds, making us... bloodthirsty?"
Upon hearing this, Matthew's expression turned serious immediately.
He carefully felt it and indeed found that his blood was flowing faster.
Not only that, but his emotions also shifted slightly towards irritability and bloodlust.
With his current extremely high attributes, he was fully capable of sensing subtle changes in his body.
"That's interesting!" Matthew said, looking up at the moon again.
He had a smile on his face, but his eyes held a hint of apprehension.
The moon should be fine. The problem must be with the red light.
What exactly was that terrifying red light? Was it devouring the moon?
Was there any connection between this and the being that was devouring the sun on Earth?
A flood of questions instantly filled Matthew's mind.
Of course, no one could answer these questions for him. He had to figure them out on his own.
But he believed that when his strength reached the point of being invincible in the world, all the truths would be revealed to him!
"Never mind that, let's focus on fighting the monsters! Let's finish this mission quickly and call it a day!"
Matthew spoke very casually.
Natalie glanced at him, nodded, and said nothing.
At this moment, suddenly, a noise came from outside the courtyard.
A moment later, a hideous and terrifying monster appeared at the mansion's door.
This monster looked a lot like a praying mantis and a bit like a spider. It had four legs for walking and a pair of sickle-like forelimbs for hunting.
Its enormous belly dragged on the ground.
Strangely, the monster's upper body was remarkably similar to a human torso.
In particular, the monster's face was almost identical to a human's, with the same features.
Of course, there were some differences. The monster's eyes were entirely black, and its mouth was full of sharp teeth, making it look sinister and terrifying.
The most striking feature was the monster's enormous, protruding ears.
It was evident at a glance that it was a monster with exceptional hearing.
The monster was covered in thick armor and appeared to have no apparent weaknesses.
Its appearance was almost identical to that shown in the pictures Professor Holland presented in the classroom.
However, the real monsters were far more terrifying and visually impactful than those in the pictures.
-Puff
Flames rose.
Upon seeing the monster appear, Natalie immediately prepared to take action.
"Wait, Natalie," Matthew suddenly said, "Let me test this monster's strength first."
Upon hearing this, Natalie extinguished the flames.
Their actions had already attracted the monster's attention.
Upon seeing the living people, the monster immediately roared and charged forward.
Then Natalie suddenly looked surprised. Because she saw Matthew actually throw away the pair of big hammers and walk towards the monster empty-handed.
What did he want to do?
While Natalie was puzzled, Matthew suddenly stood still, letting the monster pounce on him.
The monster showed no mercy. In its eyes, humans were nothing but prey!
Moreover, it hadn't seen prey for a long time and was starving.
Upon seeing a prey, all it wanted to do was quickly dismember and devour it.
-Whoosh
The sound of something cutting through the air came from the monster's attack.
The monster raised its scythe-like right arm and slashed it horizontally towards Matthew's waist and abdomen.
The sharp blade gleamed coldly in the moonlight!
Let alone a human body, this monster could probably slice through even the courtyard wall with a single slash.
"Matthew!"
Seeing that Matthew showed no intention of dodging, Natalie exclaimed in panic.
Unfortunately, it was too late for her to intervene now.
She could only watch helplessly as the monster's scythe-like arm slashed down on Matthew.
-Clang
A metallic impact sound rang out. Matthew stood still, without moving an inch.
Instead, the monster's scythe-like arm was repelled by the recoil, causing it to stagger back several steps.
This scene left Natalie completely stunned.
Matthew, on the other hand, showed a happy smile.
Steel Body. It was awesome!
He didn't even feel a trace of pain. Now he could truly call himself the "Man of Steel."
-Waaah!
The monster let out a strange cry and lunged at Matthew once again.
But it seemed a little skeptical.
This time, the monster extended both arms and launched a series of attacks at Matthew.
In a short time, its blades slashed many times in a chaotic flurry!
-Clang, clang, clang!
The metallic sound of impacts echoed continuously throughout the mansion.
If people didn't know what was going on inside, they would think it was a blacksmith shop.
Unfortunately, even with the monster's best efforts, it only managed to tear Matthew's clothes.
Let alone dismembering Matthew, it couldn't even leave a scratch on Matthew's skin!
-Bang
Suddenly, a loud, explosive sound rang out!
The attacking monster froze instantly, and after a few seconds, it slowly collapsed to the ground.
Upon closer inspection, it looked like the monster's head had somehow disappeared.
It was Matthew's casual punch that blew up the monster's head.
Invulnerable shell? In front of absolute power, it was no different from paper!
...
"Natalie, I think I just heard you calling me?"
Matthew returned to Natalie's side, picked up the pair of golden hammers from the ground, and asked, "Is there something you need?"
Natalie pursed her thin lips and said, "It's alright."
He paused for a moment.
The girl couldn't help but ask, "Are you alright? You were attacked by the monster so many times just now."
"I'm fine!"
Matthew spread his hands: "Aside from the torn clothes, can you see any other damage on my body?"
Matthew's clothes had already been torn in many places by the monster, especially on the front.
As he spread his hands, he also revealed his chest and abdominal muscles.
The visible muscle lines made Natalie blush, and she quickly turned her head away.
"It's good that you're alright."
Matthew realized he had exposed himself, laughed, straightened his clothes, and said, "I'm fine, but those monsters are in trouble! Natalie, let's execute Plan A!"
Now that he had tested the monster's attacks and found they posed no threat to him, there was no need to hide anymore.
He could be much bolder!
"Plan A?" Natalie was utterly bewildered.
Matthew never told her about Plan A! In fact, Matthew hadn't told her any plans at all.
"Plan A is... a massacre!"
