Chapter 44 - 44

[Ding, Rachel kills a first-level zombie, sharing points +1, existing points 69]

[Ding, Rachel kills a first-level zombie, sharing points +1, existing points 71]

The nearest zombies were killed by Rachel, and Ethan also gained a few points at the same time. It felt great to earn points effortlessly without lifting a finger.

Rachel was even more excited — her marksmanship was completely different from before. In the past, it took her three to five shots to hit a zombie, but now, almost every shot was a headshot. It felt effortless, and she instantly fell in love with that feeling.

Watching Rachel, who was gunning down zombies with childlike excitement, Elsa was stunned. She had just seen Rachel's earlier shooting — it was terrible — and a short period of training wasn't enough to make anyone a sharpshooter overnight.

But what was happening now? It was as if she had been training for more than ten years — her improvement was unbelievable.

Elsa herself was a top-tier markswoman who had trained for several years to reach her level, and that was with her natural talent. For an ordinary person to reach this stage would take at least seven or eight years!

"Ah!"

Rachel excitedly held the submachine gun, mowing down zombies inside the hospital like cutting wheat. But her rapid fire also emptied a full magazine in less than ten seconds.

While the other women were still shocked, Rachel quickly changed magazines and jumped up again.

"What are you doing? Hurry up and clean up! Elsa, take your two people and search the building next door for any stragglers!"

Elsa immediately turned around, leading a few people to clear the surrounding area, while Rachel commanded the others to suppress the wandering zombies near the hospital gate.

On the hospital roof, Ethan steadied his sniper rifle and took down the last zombie wandering near the entrance.

[Ding, Host kills a first-level zombie. Points +1. Total points: 265.]

"This thing is really powerful…" Ethan patted the sniper rifle. Once a bullet hit, the zombie was sent flying by the impact. Even if it hit the torso without a fatal blow, the creature couldn't stand up again.

Soon, all zombies in the hospital were cleared, and the entire area became eerily quiet — no more roaring or shuffling sounds.

[Ding, Host has cleared the hospital of zombies and established the first base. The journey of domination officially begins. Reward: 1,000 points. System space unlocked. Please continue to make persistent efforts.]

Sure enough, it came! This was the "Overlord System" after all — how could there be no reward for establishing a base? A thousand points wasn't bad; enough to exchange for two Grandmaster-level skills, or teach four people equivalent ones.

But what truly excited him was the System Space.

Ethan had complained more than once — every time he went scavenging, he had to haul back loads of supplies like a grocery shopper. Driving was difficult in zombie-infested cities, and walking was often faster but exhausting.

Now, with System Space, things would be much easier.

It wasn't small either — about ten square meters, enough to store an entire car. The only limitation was that it couldn't hold living creatures. Otherwise, it functioned exactly like the inventory spaces described in novels.

Gently focusing his mind, Ethan made the sniper rifle in his hands disappear instantly. Then, in the System Space within his consciousness, a black sniper rifle appeared.

He tested it — take it out, put it back, take it out again — and found it amusing.

"This is a real superpower," Ethan thought, grinning. "Even if I didn't develop it myself, it's still amazing to use. I can't wait to see what happens when I unlock more abilities."

Going downstairs, he found Rachel directing a few women to block the hospital entrance, reinforcing weak spots to prevent stray zombies from slipping in. She was nonchalantly chewing on chicken feet nearby, unfazed by the bloody scene around her.

"It's raining…"

The afternoon sky darkened, and soon a heavy downpour began — the first since the apocalypse started.

Survival was already difficult, and now the rain made it even worse.

With no one maintaining the drainage system, water levels reached over a meter deep in some places. This place was slightly better off due to better drainage, but most survivors had it worse — they couldn't even go out to find food.

Ethan's group, however, was comfortable. The hospital base had plenty of supplies and sat on higher ground, unaffected by the flood.

The University was located on the city's southeast edge — part of the university district — a bit removed from the main city. Its location near the airport and subway made it convenient, and it was less than two kilometers away from Hospital.

Inside the gymnasium of the University, Rick stood by the door with a worried face. The water had risen to his waist. If the gym couldn't drain soon, everyone inside would drown.

In peacetime, Rick was just an ordinary physical education teacher, watching

a group of energetic female students dressed sexy in front of him every day, he couldn't stand it, but in peacetime, he didn't dare to do anything, and the law was like a sword hanging over his head.

Fortunately, the end came, life and death were commonplace, and the law could not restrain everyone, Rick's mind suddenly came alive, he was ruthless and decisive, in the name of rescue, he won over several subordinates, controlled more than a hundred students, among which the beautiful female students were forced enjoy to his heart content, so that he lived a heavenly-like life for a while.

In one corner, over a hundred students huddled together, trembling with fear — not just of the rain, but of Rick himself.

When the rainstorm came, the gym's sewer had clogged, and a swarm of zombie-infected rats appeared. There weren't many — maybe a few thousand — but for the trapped survivors, they were death incarnate.

Even Rick, the tall PE teacher who once acted all-powerful, didn't dare go outside. Two male students he had sent out earlier were swarmed and devoured alive.

Terrified, Rick ordered the doors and windows sealed. But now, with the flood rising, they had no choice — someone had to clear the sewer, or they would either drown or be eaten alive.

"Either open that sewer and live… or die right here," Rick barked. "Your choice."

Either open the sewer, let me enjoy two beauties, or die, you choose one" The male student begged to no avail, knowing that Rick was determined to let him go to the sewer, he did not dare to resist, and the last student who resisted had been thrown into the zombie group by Rick.

The boy looked back at the terrified students still huddled inside and made up his mind. Hatred flared in his eyes.

"Teacher," he said quietly, "I can't clear the sewer alone. Send a few more people with me."
