As the sun was nearing the horizon, three people could be seen sitting on a couch. Rain was on one side while two stunning ladies sat opposite, legs crossed. Eve was visibly irritated and slightly embarrassed while Aurora was adversely quite kittish.
"I can see why you chose him… Eve." Aurora leaned into her. Eve quickly pushed her away, annoyed.
"That's not it."
"So… who's this?" Rain asked.
Maybe this would be his next target.
"Rain, this is Aurora Velford, third child of Duke Velford of the North."
"Hey, don't make me seem like such a grand figure," Aurora said before tugging on Eve's ear a little.
Was this how a duchess was supposed to act?
"Hmm… your skin is even paler than mine. Are you sick?" Aurora questioned. And in a flash, she appeared right in front of Rain, her hand caressing his cheek.
"Cold."
Are all noble women crazy?
"Um. Miss, you're a little close."
"Oh, sorry…," it seemed she was surprised that a man would so openly reject her beauty like this.
And for a second, it seemed she truly sondered the world. But it was only briefly before she returned to her form of a flirtatious vixen.
"So, what are you gonna do about it?" She leaned in further, sitting herself down on Rain's lap, pushing her face to his.
Rain only sat there in silence. Is he crazy?
Truthfully, there was nothing he could do against a Duke's daughter. If she wanted him killed or imprisoned, there would be nothing he himself could do to prevent it. It was simply the noble rule of the world despite its injustices.
"Stop teasing him," Eve stood up for him.
"Aw… But I was having so much fun. Look at his face," Aurora pouted a little.
"Sorry. She's just like this," Eve apologized for Aurora's naughty nature.
"It's… okay," Rain responded despondently and then continued, "so, what's the occasion for a Duke's daughter to come visit this lowly me?"
"I came to see who stole our little tyrant's heart, of course." Aurora grabbed and pinched both sides of Eve's cheeks, eliciting a slight frown.
"It's not like that. I'm telling you."
"Is she lying?" Aurora asked Rain, appearing in front of him again.
She is really too close… all the time. But she is beautiful.
Then, without a second thought, she grabbed Rain by the arm, lifted him up with ease and took him to Eve's bedroom.
"You're going to tell me everything." A coquettish smile bloomed on her face as she peeked out to Eve, stunned, still sitting on the couch.
Bam!
The door slammed shut.
"Wait! Open up! This is my house!"
********
Eve pounded on the door for a few more seconds but soon gave up. She had dealt with this vixen long enough that she didn't care that much any longer. She just had to let it happen.
But on the inside, Aurora had set up a sound suppressing formation and replaced her previous lascivious smile with a more stern expression, though still maintaining that playful charm.
In the next moment, a thin, white, elastic tail sprung out from her back, and a pair of similarly snow-colored horns began to curl in spirals towards the back of her head. A few scales could be seen creeping out of the color of her neck, and with renewed force, she grabbed Rain's neck and pincered him between her hand and the wall.
A demon? No… that's not it.
"Aghh…" Rain tried to breathe, "Miss… I don't believe there's any animosity between us."
"No."
Her grip loosened slightly, but it was still tight enough that Rain needed to pull at her hands to ease the pressure.
"What are your intentions with Evelynn?"
"Miss, I don't know what you're talking about. I'm just a servant." The pressure tightened. It was a burden to even get those words out of his throat.
Aurora pressed her face next to his, her white hair drifting onto his chest, and licked the side of his neck.
She's really crazy…!
"I can taste her on you. Tell me the truth." She stared straight into his soul. Her tail coiled up around his hands and tied them behind his back. He was at the mercy of her will—her cruelty or clemency.
In the moments before this situation had all transpired, Rain had telepathetically asked Syme about the Velford duchy, and it was revealed to him that this Aurora in front of him might be a draconian.
Thousands of years ago, the lord of House Velford had been blessed by a reclusive Northern dragon tribe with their blood. It had allowed them to foster the mightiest force that stood stalwart against all enemies in the North. Their identity was built upon the foundation of this dragon blood.
However, over the years, it had begun to thin with only a few descendants having inherited it. This Aurora was seemingly the most talented of all her siblings with the most potent bloodline.
Back to the present, her eyes gleamed with a new light that seemed to illuminate the darkness in Rain's demonic soul.
Dragon eyes.
As sages of knowledge and magic, dragons were of the most mana-blessed species. They could speak out advanced magic in tongues, perceive the usually unperceivable with their eyes, and exert physical force like no other race with just natural strength and resilience.
It seemed Aurora had inherited plenty of the dragon blood. Rain knew she could tell if he was lying at this moment.
So, he told her the truth–not the whole thing–only the parts about their intimacy.
"So, I was right." A jolly smile returned to her face and she dropped Rain to the ground.
Rain breathed a sigh of relief, but before he could take his next breath, a cold pair of lips pressed themselves against his before he was completely pushed to the ground.
What's her problem!
He tried to pry her off to no avail. Soon, however, he felt something else. Little bits of cold energy were being sucked out of his body from this kiss.
"Ahh…" Aurora unsealed her lips from Rain's, reveling in this gold mine of strong ice mana she had just found.
This had little effect on Rain, but it seemed like the best drug to Aurora. She had inherited a strong ice-related bloodline and thus, from youth, needed powerful cold artifacts and natural treasures to keep her satiated.
However, when she saw Rain for the first time, she felt an insatiable urge to devour him. And it seemed she was right. His ice mana flowed through her body, and she burst out in ecstasy; to her, this cold was like the comfort of a warm bed in winter–a pleasantry she had previously never felt before.
But even unperceivable to her dragon eyes, Rain could see a small amount of his dark mana–so inconsequential–mixing with the ice mana she had just taken in.
It was his special type of dark mana, each unique to a natural-born devil.
This can work.
He knew that no one else could take on his dark mana without backlash. And in small enough doses, it would be like poison.
He would poison her, slowly, until he became her cure.
A vicious smile formed in his mind. Just you wait crazy lady…
"I'll be seeing you often… Rain, was it?" Aurora stood up, about to leave.
"Yes… that's it." Rain pretended to be flustered and a little distressed.
Your time will come, young miss, just you wait!
