Chapter 6 - chapter 6

Weeks passed, and Mkhize's notebook was now thick with observations. He had learned how to analyze speed, ball control, passing accuracy, and decision-making under pressure. He had also built quiet connections with local coaches, who were beginning to recognize his dedication — even if he wasn't officially a scout.

One Saturday, Mkhize attended a youth tournament at a nearby stadium. The air was thick with dust, excitement, and shouts of young players chasing their dreams. He found a quiet spot in the stands and opened his notebook.

Then he saw him.

A boy no older than fourteen, moving with impossible speed and control, weaving between defenders like they were standing still. Every pass was precise. Every shot had power and accuracy. Mkhize's eyes widened. He had never seen raw talent like this in his life.

But Mkhize knew he couldn't just act recklessly. He didn't have a license. He didn't have a team. He could only observe for now.

He scribbled notes furiously, heart racing:

Name: Thabo

Position: Forward

Strengths: Speed, finishing, vision

Weaknesses: Decision-making under pressure (can improve with coaching)

Mkhize also noticed the boy's coach, a young man with a sharp eye, guiding him carefully. After the game, Mkhize approached the coach cautiously.

"Hello, I'm Mkhize," he said politely. "I'm not a licensed scout yet. I'm learning and studying players. I noticed your boy out there he's incredible. Could you tell me a bit about him?"

The coach raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "You're just a teacher? What do you want from me?"

"I don't want anything… for now," Mkhize replied. "I'm learning. I just want to understand how great players develop, so one day I can help them reach professional teams."

The coach studied him for a long moment. Then, to Mkhize's surprise, he nodded. "Alright. You clearly care. Come watch him train tomorrow. See how he works with discipline and coaching. But remember, he's my responsibility."

Mkhize's heart leapt. It wasn't Kaizer Chiefs. It wasn't official. But it was a chance a real opportunity to learn, observe, and test everything he had studied.

That night, Mkhize opened his notebook and wrote with excitement:

"Opportunity is here. Small, but real. I will learn everything I can. One day, this boy and others like him will be stars. And when that day comes, I'll be ready."

He closed the notebook and smiled at the ceiling. For the first time, the dream felt closer than ever.
