Chapter 32: The Spider Tyrant's Wrath
"Spider Tyrant, get out of the way!" Spider-Man yelled before diving headfirst into a nearby bomb crater, hiding from the incoming missile.
Talon didn't run. He didn't even flinch. His enhanced vision locked onto the missile ports on the Goblin's glider. The moment the projectiles launched, he moved.
His right hand snapped forward, a web line shooting out to stick to the missile. With a sharp, practiced flick of his wrist, he whipped the armed explosive dozens of meters away, where it detonated harmlessly in a vacant lot. A piece of shrapnel flew toward him; without even looking, he backhanded it away, the movement fluid and dismissive.
"Holy hell! You can just deflect my missiles? How?!" the Green Goblin shrieked, his confidence cracking. This "Spider Tyrant" had the same basic powers as Spider-Man, but wielded them with a terrifying, brutal efficiency Spider-Man never displayed.
From his hiding spot, Spider-Man watched in awe. He had never considered using his webbing like that.
Talon looked up, his gaze cold and challenging. "Is that all you have?"
Furious, the Green Goblin resorted to his throwing knives, hurling them in a rapid, bladed barrage.
Shink! Shink! Shink!
Talon's hands became a blur. Web after web shot out, each one perfectly intercepting a knife, sending them clattering to the ground in a useless metallic shower.
The Green Goblin was stunned into silence. Dozens of knives, all neutralized.
"Chen Feng, you're incredible," Spider-Man muttered, dazed.
"Continue," Talon commanded, his voice flat. He was pushing his body, forcing his new abilities to their limit in a burst of enhanced speed and power that he knew was taxing him, but his superior healing factor made the strain manageable.
The Goblin, desperate now, targeted Talon with his glider's machine guns. But Talon heard the servos whirring a split-second before they fired. He whipped a web out, snagging a chunk of broken pavement, and hauled it overhead just as the bullets started flying.
Rat-tat-tat-tat!
The bullets pounded into the concrete shield. Feeling it begin to shatter, Talon crouched, coiled his muscles, and then exploded upward, hurling the massive stone back at the Goblin. The villain barely swerved his glider out of the way in time.
"Continue," Talon said again, the single word dripping with contempt.
Spitting with rage, the Green Goblin produced his final weapon: a pumpkin bomb. He set the timer to one second and threw it.
Talon's focus was absolute. The bomb had barely left the Goblin's hand when a web line, fast as a bullet, snagged it. Talon pulled it toward himself, then, with a deft circular motion of his wrist, sent it rocketing back toward its owner with even greater speed.
"You've got to be kidding me!" the Goblin yelled, swerving his glider frantically.
It was too late.
The pumpkin bomb detonated right beside him. The blast hurled him from his glider, sending both man and machine crashing to the street below. The glider sputtered and died.
Talon walked over, picked up the glider, and examined it. "Not bad," he mused. The Goblin's tech lacked the raw power of Iron Man's suit, but it had a certain style. The idea of integrating a glider system into his Transformer was appealing. An 8.5-meter-tall robot soaring on a glider... the image was undeniably cool. He tried to have Optimus Prime interface with it, but the glider was too damaged to respond.
Seeing the coast was clear, Spider-Man scrambled out of his hole. "Spider Tyrant, that was amazing! You wiped the floor with him! Those moves were so cool!"
"Enough flattery," Talon cut him off. "Go find out where Mary Jane is."
"Oh! Right!" The fight had been so intense, Peter had forgotten his primary goal. He rushed over to the groaning Green Goblin, his mind now racing with ideas of how to mimic Talon's techniques.
He shook the villain's shoulder. "Harry! Where did the Lizard take Mary Jane? Tell me!"
The Goblin, protected by his armor, slowly regained consciousness. A weak, mocking laugh escaped him. "It's... too late. He won't... give her back."
Peter's blood ran cold. "Why?!"
"Hehehe... because the Lizard said he wants to make your girlfriend just like him," the Goblin taunted.
Spider-Man slammed a fist into the Goblin's helmet in a fit of rage, succeeding only in hurting his own hand. "WHERE IS SHE?! TELL ME!" he screamed, his voice breaking, on the verge of begging.
The Goblin just kept laughing, a hollow, grating sound.
"TELL ME!"
Talon strode over, shoved Spider-Man aside with one hand, and looked down at the Green Goblin. "I'll handle this." His voice was low, calm, and promised nothing but pain.
