Chapter 59 - Marcus Last Text

Hey, Elena

I'm not trying to bring things back up again — I just want to say this once, honestly.

This is the last text I've been saving.

I don't know if you'll ever truly understand how much I loved you — in the quiet moments, in the storms, in the times when you pushed me away.

I loved you not just with words, but with patience — with forgiveness — with the kind of care that still shows up even when it hurts.

I saw you when no one else did.

I saw how you guarded your heart, how you built walls to keep yourself safe.

And I stayed — not to break them, but to remind you that someone still wanted to stay anyway.

I never wanted to change you.

I just wanted us to grow together — to face our flaws, our differences, and still choose each other through it all.

Every time we fought, I wasn't trying to win; I was trying to understand you.

Because when you love someone that deeply, you don't walk away at the first sign of pain — you try to fix what's breaking.

You said you were tired.

But have you ever thought about how tired I was too?

From holding both of us together when you stopped reaching back?

And yet, I still didn't stop trying.

Because to me, you were worth it — every ache, every doubt, every tear.

Maybe I was too much for you.

Maybe you weren't ready for the kind of love that stays even when it's hard.

But one day, when the noise in your heart quiets down, I hope you'll remember — all I ever wanted was for you to meet me halfway.

Maybe you'll move on.

Maybe you'll find peace under a different sky.

Or maybe one night, it'll hit you — how rare it is to find someone who loved the version of you the world never got to see.

I never wanted to be just another person passing through your life.

I wanted to be your person — your calm, your safe place.

There won't be hate from me.

Just love, and a bit of sadness for what we could've been.

If you ever think of me, I hope it reminds you that I meant every word — that I loved every part of you, even the ones you hid.

And if you ever miss me — truly miss me — I hope you remember this:

I never stopped choosing you.

Even when you made it hard.

Even when you walked away.

I still prayed for your happiness.

Maybe this is what love was meant to teach us —

not how to hold on, but how to let go with grace.

You're young. You're learning.

You're still becoming everything you're meant to be.

And maybe that's why I had to let you go —

not because I stopped loving you,

but because I wanted you to have the space to grow into yourself,

even if it meant I couldn't be beside you while you did.

And also I'm sorry for all the pains have caused you.

So this is me finally stepping back.

No anger. No regrets.

Just quiet love — from afar.

— Marcus

⸻

Elena read the message three times.

Each line felt like a slow exhale of everything he'd never said out loud.

For the first time, she didn't cry.

Her chest ached, yes — but not from heartbreak, from understanding.

Because somewhere between his words, she saw the truth —

he had loved her in the only way he knew how: imperfectly, endlessly, painfully.

And though she knew it was over,

a small part of her wanted to whisper, "I understand now."

But she didn't.

She just stared at the screen, the final words glowing back at her like a sunset — beautiful, distant, gone.

Marcus was no longer hers, and maybe he never really was.

He was a chapter she had to close,

a lesson she had to learn the hard way.

She locked her phone and whispered,

"Thank you… for loving me enough to let me go."

Outside, the night air felt softer —

as if even the universe agreed it was time to move on.

And for the first time, Elena didn't fight it.

She simply breathed,

and let peace take the place of love.
