Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Chapter 5

It had already been fifteen days since the cargo convoy entered the Great Plains of Death.

After entering the plains, even though the black- and white-robed lords had increased the number of patrols and ordered the acolytes to band together, there had still been casualties.

The deep claw marks on the carriages were proof of it ,caused by a pack of plains direwolves. The very moment they had arrived, the carriages had suffered a siege.

During all this, Adem wasn't as fearful as the other nobles. He had baptized himself in the blood of direwolves, which helped him increase his mastery of [Full Control Skill] to eighty percent of the Full Control level.

While the other acolytes hid fearfully in their carriages, he was out grinding. They only came out to take care of their bodily needs, and even then, some ended up dead — mostly because of the poisonous insects. Their venom was so deadly that it could kill in under fifteen seconds.

Today, just like any other day, he was out training again. But oddly enough, the young nobles were outside their turtle shells. He didn't expect anything unusual until he saw Leylin running out of the woods toward the group led by George , the Furze Alliance. They had invited him to join before, but he had refused.

"We have company. Trouble's afoot!"

George glanced around at the surrounding crowd and saw that most of the students were still minding their own business. He quickly retrieved his water bottle to make it look like nothing was wrong. "What's the situation?"

"A pack of direwolves! I noticed their tracks!" Leylin said quickly and urgently.

The members of the Furze Alliance immediately began to quietly retreat in an orderly manner to avoid alarming the rest. Some of the sharper acolytes noticed and quickly joined in their retreat.

Bang! Bang!

A loud, piercing gong echoed through the plains.

"The Lord Magus has sensed danger! All acolytes are to retreat back to the carriages!"

One of the black-robed men's voices thundered in every acolyte's ears.

The acolytes resting on the grass froze in shock before panic set in. Screams and chaos erupted as they swarmed toward the carriages.

Aawoooooo!

At that moment, a long, drawn-out howl sounded , filled with ruthless bloodlust.

All around, the wolf howls echoed. Their stealth attack had failed, so they charged forth instead!

Streak after streak of shadowy black wolves burst from the tree line, each one two to three meters long, their speed leaving shimmering afterimages in their wake.

Adem joined the black-robed knights, forming a defensive ring around the carriages.

From within the shadows of the trees, red glowing orbs like eyes emerged — dozens, then hundreds. Their numbers were staggering. They wasted no time as they rushed straight toward the defensive formation.

Adem met his opponent with a swift downward strike of his spear, splitting the wolf's head clean in half. He then shifted into a rightward slash, beheading another that tried to slip past him.

"Heh heh! These direwolves are cunning and intelligent," said Angelo, his voice calm despite the chaos. "As long as we show them we're not easy prey , that they'll suffer heavy losses , they'll definitely retreat!"

Hearing the leader of the black-robed knights, Sir Angelo, shout to Leylin — who was preparing to join the fight — Adem didn't waste a second. He thrust his spear forward three times in succession, each strike faster than the last.

He looked like an Asura drenched in blood, taking the lives of his enemies before they even knew what hit them.

Even though he had been just a student a few months ago, being in this primitive world and slaughtering a direwolf pack made something awaken inside him, making his blood boil.

The excitement wasn't the same as when he felt himself growing stronger, but it was close — close enough to make his heart pound. He paid no attention to the acolytes behind him crying like frightened children.

As he continued the slaughter, his [High Comprehension] showed just how broken it truly was. Unconsciously, his movements became smoother, faster, and more efficient with every kill.

It had become so easy that he was killing three wolves every second. By the time the others caught their breath, Adem already had the highest kill count among the group and he was still improving.

All of this without using a single drop of life force energy. Just pure skill, monstrous strength, and an inhuman level of control and comprehension.
