Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Applying for a Bodyguard Position

"Du Mu, you have a new mission."

That day, Du Mu woke up in his 500-square-meter luxury villa and received a call from Nick Fury.

Don't ask how a level 5 S.H.I.E.L.D. agent could afford such a large house.

Back in Los Santos, he owned over a dozen properties even bigger than this—what was this by comparison?

Nick Fury's voice came through the receiver: "I need you to get close to Tony Stark and closely monitor his recent movements."

"This mission was originally meant for Black Widow. With her qualifications, approaching Stark would be relatively easy, but she's currently tied up with an urgent mission, so I have to give it to you."

Du Mu had heard a little about the Black Widow mentioned by Fury.

This colleague, like him, maintained a record of a 100% mission completion rate, though her efficiency wasn't as high as his.

It was said that Black Widow was a hot, beautiful woman who had quite a following within S.H.I.E.L.D. Du Mu had even heard some fanatic agent swear he'd drink her bathwater.

Given her looks and methods, using a honey trap on a playboy like Tony would indeed be an effortless task.

But the problem was that Black Widow was busy now, so wouldn't the executor of this honey trap be...

"Director, I sell my skills, not my body!" Du Mu blurted out.

Nick Fury: "???"

What on earth are you thinking?!

"I'm not asking you to sell your body! As for how you approach Tony Stark, that's a problem you need to solve. I only care about the result!"

[NPC Nick Fury has issued you a new mission]

[Mission: Monitor Tony Stark]

[Objective: Go undercover by Tony Stark's side, monitor all his actions, and report to Nick Fury]

[Reward: 1000 Experience Points, S.H.I.E.L.D. Reputation +30, Random Item *1, Random Equipment *1]

"The rewards for missions related to Tony are really generous!"

Du Mu could pretty much confirm it.

Tony Stark was definitely one of the main characters in this 'game' and held a very important position in the main storyline.

After hanging up the phone, Du Mu started packing, preparing to head out.

If Black Widow were executing this mission, she'd probably start with Stark Industries, first getting hired with forged credentials, and then using her methods to replace Tony's female assistant. This way, she could use her job as an excuse to get close to him.

But for Du Mu, this method was immediately blocked by the first hurdle: gender.

Unless he considered himself a man with the psychological gender of a woman and a penchant for cross-dressing.

Furthermore, Du Mu felt that the conventional route was too inefficient.

So, he decided to take a shortcut.

10880 Malibu Beach, California, seaside mansion.

In the underground laboratory, Tony was fully absorbed in debugging his latest masterpiece, the Mark III armor.

Since his narrow escape from the Middle East, he had been engrossed in the research and development of the Iron Armor.

Compared to the Mark I built in the cave, his latest version of the Iron Armor was much more comprehensive.

Most importantly, it could fly!

Tony recalled the embarrassing memory of frantically running for his life that day and silently vowed never to let history repeat itself.

At the same time, he was also considering whether to install a Gatling gun on the armor. The scene of Du Mu single-handedly wiping out the terrorists had really affected him.

At this moment, a huge television screen mounted on the wall was broadcasting the news.

"Tonight, a red carpet is laid out outside the Disney Concert Hall, where Tony Stark will make his third generous donation to the Firefighters Family Fund. This was supposed to be an annual grand event for Los Angeles high society, but as of now, Tony Stark himself has yet to appear..."

Tony frowned and asked his smart butler, "Jarvis, did anyone invite us?"

"There is no record of any invitation."

The voice of the artificial intelligence, Jarvis, rang out.

The news on TV continued to play: "Given Tony Stark's shocking remarks at the recent press conference, some speculate that he may have suffered non-human abuse in the Middle East, leading to psychological and physical trauma. Others speculate that the Tony Stark who has returned is not the man himself..."

Listening to the increasingly outlandish speculation in the news, Tony's face grew darker and darker.

What was "non-human abuse"? What was "psychological and physical trauma"?

Tony gritted his back teeth: "Jarvis! Find out which media outlet this is, and buy it for me! Make them broadcast my gossip news on a loop for a week! Highlight my physical and mental well-being!"

"Understood, Sir."

"Also, contact Happy and have him take me to that damned charity gala immediately!"

Happy was Tony's driver and bodyguard, and also someone he highly trusted; he usually kept him close.

"Sir, Mr. Happy took a temporary leave today," Jarvis reported.

"Huh? What happened?" Tony was a little surprised.

"According to Mr. Happy, he was subjected to an unprovoked attack recently. Fortunately, he is fine and is currently undergoing observation and treatment in the hospital."

"Attack?"

Upon hearing this, Tony frowned deeply: "Who did it?"

"Mr. Happy stated that the attacker was an unfamiliar male, characterized by black hair, black eyes, wearing a pink short-sleeved shirt and beach shorts."

Tony felt utterly baffled.

He knew Happy's character; he rarely made enemies. Why would someone attack him for no reason?

Just as Tony was perplexed, Jarvis's voice rang out again: "Sir, an unregistered visitor has been detected at the main house entrance."

"Who is it?"

"It is a man with black hair, black eyes, wearing a pink short-sleeved shirt and beach shorts."

Tony: "..."

I think I've found the culprit!

Tony sneered, "Good, he delivered himself right to my doorstep. Bring up the outside surveillance. I want to see who this person is."

"Sir, the visitor seems to have already entered."

Tony: "???"

The next moment, a large section of the ceiling instantly vanished, and an agile figure leaped down from the hole.

"Found you!"

Familiar dialogue.

Familiar scene.

And a familiar person!

Tony looked at Du Mu holding a diamond pickaxe, his face completely black, comparable to Nick Fury's.

"It's you, you bastard!" Tony gnashed his teeth.

"Long time no see."

Du Mu greeted him very casually, as if he were just dropping by a neighbor's house.

His gaze swept over the virtual screen suspended in front of Tony, which was displaying the detailed model and complex data flow of the Mark III armor.

"The latest Iron Armor? It looks much cooler than that lump of iron from last time!"

Du Mu's eyes lit up.

I want it, I want it!

Tony's mouth twitched, and he immediately had Jarvis turn off the screen, then stared at Du Mu and asked, "What exactly are you here for, you guy?"

Du Mu chuckled, "Can't you tell? I'm here to apply for a bodyguard position!"

Tony: "?"
