A violent shudder ran through me at the sound of Arielle's laughter. It erupted from her like thunder cracking across the garden, wild and sharp enough to make the hair on my arms stand upright. She doubled over from how hard she laughed, shoulders shaking, nearly breathless. For a terrifying moment, I genuinely wondered if she had finally lost her mind.
