Chapter 3 - Breathe

Waking late in the morning while the sun had risen pretty high, I instantly began practicing the breathing technique. Since I didn't know the language well, I relied mostly on the interpretation of Stoney, who was still sleeping—or doing some kind of hibernation.

Sitting down on the rock nearby the shore, I faced the sea and followed the translated breathing instructions.

After several minutes, I felt gradual warmth at my stomach; my heartbeat started to synchronize with the rhythm of breath.

Then something changed.

Every cell in my body seemed to vibrate in unison, as if responding to a silent melody. At first, my fingertips tingled, then, a spark of sensation (like a weak flow of electricity) moved underneath my skin.

I could hear blood flowing—not by sound but by vibration. My muscles relaxed; my mind emptied.

Then a surge of invisible energy burst through my body, running along my spine and out to my limbs. The warmth became radiance.

For that instant, I understood — not by thought, but by presence — that the flow of life, breath, and everything was one.

When I opened my eyes, the world seemed sharper, clearer as if drawn by clearer lines. I had touched something beyond the biological — the resonance of life itself.

At the same time, I noticed the water from the sea trembling slightly—every molecule of water was visible not by my bare eyes but by my mind.

Could I control the water?

Intuitively, I started to sense the oscillation of water, trying to connect with it.

A droplet of water was gradually lifted from the surface. Suddenly, a sense of exhaustion approached; I suffered from physical and mental fatigue.

"You shouldn't do it anymore," Stoney temporarily woke up and said sharply.

Quickly obeying and getting out of the state, I became starved and tired. Grasping the energy bars and water bottles, I had consumed all the packed food. The second later, I instantly fell into sleep.

After resting for half a day—Stoney told me—I woke up and noticed the world was a bit brighter while not being in the extreme resonance state. Stoney had explained to me about how my body changed while breathing.

When reaching the peak of resonance, three systems—the circulatory, nervous and endocrine—synchronize, creating an oscillating network throughout the body. Practitioners then develop what is commonly called "Arcane Resonance Pathways"—a state of highly synchronized resonance, not a physical organ.

Things became clearer now. Wait… How could a stone like Stoney know too much? Based on its story, it could be something like AI, perhaps…Forget it. It is not necessary now.

Now I had stepped into Activation Phase, where the practitioner could use partly synchronization, which enhanced the overall strength (by improving ATP synthesis) such as greater endurability, faster recovery or mentality such as sharper focus and improved sensory awareness. After the Peak Resonance state, the Arcane Resonance Pathways(arcane vessels)—microscopic routes through tissue, nerves, and vessels—are "imprinted" during peak resonance, making it easier for me in the second time of Peak resonance and allowing me to make a small energy oscillation even at rest.

"You seem to have a Water Affinity, whose frequency is medium and flexible, as I see you can control water to a small extent instantly after being activated," Stoney said. "That's impressive; you adapt to the arcane force remarkably fast."

Not caring about Stoney's compliment, I opened the book again.

There are many basic arcane skills in this book. I have to learn all.

It was afternoon now, and I still didn't feel hungry. Maybe because I had eaten a lot before. Looking around, I suddenly remember about my bananas, which were becoming ripe now. The banana tree had sprouted—what? Sprouted already? It should take banana trees at least two weeks to germinate. It was too fast of them to be like that.

"It's because your Peak Resonance state affected its germination speed when you were breathing near these trees." Stoney explained.

Those banana trees might have absorbed some of the resonance waves emitted from my Peak State. And those waves—arcane force—can have some impact on improved metabolism on living creatures.

Knowing it that I have a Water Affinity, I tried to control the water again. After regaining enough energy, I stepped on the Peak Resonance state; the world now became clearer. However, I couldn't control external water again. Perhaps I didn't have enough energy after being awakened to do that again. But I could sense that the water in my body was dancing with alignment of the breath. I tried to control the water flow and blood in my body. My blood flowed faster, but it didn't make the heartbeat oscillate unharmoniously. It seemed my whole body was dancing in a melody, and if I changed any patterns, it could lead to changes in the entire body.

Immersed in this state, I hadn't been aware of how much time had passed. It was not until evening that I opened my eyes again. I found myself feeling brighter; and got used to using Arcane Force at a low level. I could even guide the Arcane Force into my internal energy pathways to enhance my nerves and muscles at a low extent, too.

According to the book, I will get to the next level by guiding the Arcane Force into my body pathways to regularly enhance my bodies, so it seems I am on the right way.

Maybe because my consciousness had been improved, I didn't feel sleepy even at the midnight. That said, I still rested for three hours so that my body could recover well.

The next morning was more beautiful—not because it had changed but the thing inside myself had changed. I felt most energetic since I got lost on this island. After breakfast with some bananas, I started to go to the ruins again. The book just gave me some insights about the first and second phase of resonance: Activation and Channeling, as Stoney said. With that I couldn't thrive further, so I had to find more information about this power.

Carrying some bananas and water, I went to the ruins again.

Passing the water temple—the name that I gave to it based on its appearance—I had a feeling that I could go into it, but I hesitated and left it aside to complete my aim today.

Just stepping on the outside of the ancient ruins, I could feel an oscillation of a protection arcane skill that preserved the whole ruins for a long time. That was why the houses and buildings still looked nice, and the book was still there. This protection skill was like an invisible shield that would prevent dangers from outside. However, I could access without any difficulties.

This skill might have a mysterious mechanism that I couldn't understand yet.

Coming into the house where I looted the book, I took all the books of the bookshelf. As Stoney said, they were about herbalism, literacy, math and…Arcane Force Field?

"Arcane Force Field is a mysterious field in this universe, which appears everywhere and could affect matter through resonance frequencies." The book said.

It could be written about the principles of Arcane Force! I may get a lot more information if I read this.

After that, Stoney said he (A stone isn't human and doesn't have gender, so I will use "he".) had to hibernate frequently to recover. As I observed, when hibernating, he also experienced Peak Resonance-like state and absorbed energy from Arcane Force Field, but the effectiveness was a bit low.

Getting out of the house, I looked around to seek other items.

A delicate structure caught my attention, which was like a place where the wealthy stayed—despite not being substantially higher than any other buildings. Having just one floor, it was impressively large with yards and gardens nearby. There were strange patterns like waves and plants carved on the building. It had a rectangle shape with a large door in its entrance.

Walking nearby, I could sense water in that building. I tried to open the doors but with my whole strength, I couldn't move it an inch.

Am I not strong enough to open this door—or is there any mechanism behind it?

Not caring about it anymore, I moved to other buildings. There were so many buildings that I couldn't explore in a short time. And inside some of them, I had looted a manuscript book that I thought it was talking about Arcane Force Field and a blue core—when holding it, I felt a similar sensation when resonating with water, but it was much easier to connect with water (by) using the core than without it. Although there were lots of things, I didn't have much space to store them in the bag I'd looted earlier.

Then, I returned home when the sun was at its highest point.
