Chapter 2 - System Activating

He had entered into the world of the most hottest game on earth.

Terra nova

He transmigrated Into another body with the same first name as his.

Damian Cooper had become Damian Kane.

I'm really here…in Terra Nova"

"I'm…" He touched his face making sure it was all real and not a dream.

At this point the soldier was getting annoyed with Damian obsession over himself

"Stop talking to yourself, Move!" The soldier slapped his shoulder

Damian immediately snapped back to reality

As Damian tried to compose himself, the memories of the original, Damian Kane began flooding his mind

Faces of his parent and eleven years old twin sisters Lily and Daisy flooded his mind as tears unknowingly started to slide down his cheeks

They were the reason he had joined the awakener program.

Dimensional beasts had attacked their hometown at night, killing almost everything in sight. His family had barely escaped the slaughter, Since then Damian swore to become strong enough to protect his parent.

Only by becoming an awakened could his parent be transferred into the inner city and be protected.

Damian absorbed the memories in a flash.

Terra Nova had once been a world of advanced technology, but everything changed after the extraterrestrial invasion and the spread of a strange virus.

Humanity was nearly wiped out. Only those who awakened soul cores managed to endure, becoming the fighters who stood against the frenzy mutated beasts.

"Kane!"

Damian turned. A young soldier stood there with Short brown hair and a Freckled face.

"It's you, Finn."

Finn grabbed his arm. "Come on. Instructor Harlan is furious."

They crossed the training grounds. A few recruits watched them pass by, while others chuckled quietly.

"There goes sleeping beauty!"

"Think he'll faint again today?"

Damian's inherited memories provided more context. Yesterday, during a practice session, a white-horned Snake had been brought out for demonstration. The original Damian Kane had taken one look at its red eyes and collapsed.

Ever since then, the mockery had been brutal.

"Weakling!"

"How did he even make it here?"

"His family must be embarrassed !"

Now Damian had to face all the humiliation.

Damian Kane was regarded as one of the least talented recruits, perhaps the only one entirely without skill. Aside from his striking looks, he possessed no combat abilities, and to make matters worse, he was timid and utterly spineless. Yet, despite the relentless insults from both his fellow recruits and the instructors, he refused to quit because of the promise he had made to his family.

Atlas, the Damian from Earth wasn't going to let the insults continue. He was determined to restore honor and respect to his name.

They arrived at the assessment arena, a wide circular platform with stones around it.

At the top of the podium stood Head Instructor Victoria Lodge.

Victoria was a Super Awakener, in charge of the recruits' awakening assessment. She was known to be ruthless and anyone who failed her was discarded without mercy.

She was a monstrously powerful lady, with skills that surpassed the other instructors. she stood on the stage wearing skin-tight blazers, showing off her supple breasts and making it seem as if they would burst out of her clothes.

Her long and slim legs were strong and straight, and her red hair paired with her attire only made her look even hotter.

But no one dared to look directly at her.

For a moment, her soul core appeared, a crystalline sword with a faint glow.

She was a Super Awakener, ranked above the usual nine levels.

Super awakener Veronica was the Head instructor for the awakening assessment of the recruits and was known to be very cruel, her methods, were merciless, treating the recruits like they were livestock.

"Silence!" Veronica commanded and the entire arena fell silent.

Head Instructor Veronica tilted her head and her red long earrings as well as her fiery hot hair fell to the side of her neck, revealing a long sumptuous raven. Her crimson pupils narrowed.

"Since you've all been talking about Damian," she said, "I hope your six months of training have not gone to waste."

"Today, you take your awakening assessment," she continued. "This is not practice and there is no room for failure."

"You will fight real beasts. Level 3 dimensional creatures. If you fail, you die. If you succeed, you become awakened soldiers of humanity."

"She pointed to the holding pens at the edge of the arena, where figures moved inside, and a pair of red eyes peeped through every now and then.

"Some of you will not survive this day. But those who do will earned the right to call themselves awakeners."

Damian's heart started to race. He still felt the original Damian Kane's fear building up inside of him.

"The assessment begins now, We will call you by number. Step forward when called."

Victoria's eyes swept the crowd, then landed on Damian briefly.

"Those who display exceptional skill will be marked for advanced training. Those who show cowardice…" She let the sentence hang. "Well, the beasts don't tolerate cowardice."

Around Damian, recruits shifted nervously. Some gripped their weapons while others muttered prayers for survival.

Finn leaned close. "You okay? You look different today."

Damian met his gaze. "I'm fine."

Suddenly…

A Sweet mechanical voice echoed in his mind.

[Ding!]

[System Activating…]

Damian's eyes widened. It was the game interface.

[Ding!]

[Welcome to Terra Nova. Your awakening begins now.]

"Recruit 7211!"

Chief Instructor Veronica 's voice cut through the entire area.

And a tall boy with blonde hair walked out of the field into the arena breathing heavily.

He held a small spear with both hands getting ready to strike.

The arena was filled with low murmurs as Recruit 7211 stepped onto the sand. The sun was hot above, and the smell of dust and sweat was think in the air. Recruits lined the stands, watching quietly.

The metal gate creaked open on the other side.

A Twin-Tailed Leopard walked out, its black fur rippling with each step. Both tails swayed behind it, their bony ends scraping the ground with a light clink… clink… sound.

7211 tightened his grip on the spear. His palms were sweaty.

The instructor's voice echoed from the podium.

"Begin."

He moved first, running forward with a quick thrust toward the beast's chest. The leopard slid aside easily.

"Whsshh!"

The spear struck nothing but air. Before he could recover, one tail whipped out snapping the weapon in half.

"Crack!"

Gasps came from the crowd. 7211 stumbled back, holding the broken shaft. The leopard circled him, its golden eyes calm and steady.

He tried again, this time aiming lower at its legs. The leopard jumped over the attack, landing behind him with a dull thud.

"Fight back!" Victoria ordered aggressively.

"Show me what you're made of!"

As he turned to land another attack, he was too slow.

"Whipp!"

A tail lashed across his back and tearing open his skin.

"Ugh!" he grunted, falling to one knee. Pain burned through his side. He tried to stand, but the beast was already moving again.

It lunged at him, slamming one heavy into his chest.

Thump!

The impact knocked him backward into the sand.

He coughed, gasping for air. "Ahhh…!"

The leopard stood over him, tails twitching. It growled softly, the sound low but rough. 7211 tried to crawl away, but his arms felt weak. The creature's paw pressed lightly against his chest, holding him down.

Enough," Victoria said, raising her hand.

A few soldiers ran forward with spears. The beast backed away, still growling.

The boy was carried off the field, badly injured but he survived.

'Next,' Victoria called.

One by one, more recruits stepped into the arena. Some managed to stay calm and land a few clean hits. Others froze or missed their timing. A few were pulled out early, because they were too injured to continue.

Damian watched closely, studying every movement. He noticed how the beasts almost always attacked from the right and circled clockwise before lunging. The recruits who reacted fast enough could use that to block each hit.

"Recruit 7429!"

Damian's number was called. The arena suddenly fell quiet.

Low murmurs moved through the crowd.

"Isn't that the one who fainted yesterday?"

"Think he'll even reach the beast?"

"My bet is he runs before it starts."

Damian tried ignoring them.

"Are you sure you want to do this? Or would you like to give up now? It is not too late to back out." Instructor Harlan said with a steady voice.

Damian was quiet for a while, although he had just transmigrated to this world and didn't want to die, he was also determined to help the original Damian fulfill his promise of becoming an awakener.

"No sir, I'm ready for this challenge! Damian said with determination while holding on to the will to survive.

Damian walked toward the center of the arena with slow strides.

Victoria watched calmly from where she stood near the edge.

"Damian Kane," she said, her voice clear. "Yesterday you hesitated. Today, you face that fear. Are you ready?"

Damian gave a short nod. "Yes, ma'am."

"Release the beast." Veronica ordered
