Chapter 8: "Erin's Journey: First Steps"
A bright sun shone over the city of Elandor, illuminating streets alive with laughter, bustling markets, and the blessings of their goddess. The air was warm, filled with excitement and joy. Today was not an ordinary day — it was a celebration of Erin's hard work, dedication, and the remarkable achievement he had earned at the academy.
Erin had labored tirelessly for years, honing his skills, studying relentlessly, and pushing himself beyond his limits. The moment of recognition had finally arrived — the day he would step beyond the familiar walls of the academy.
He had ranked at the very top, the youngest hero to ever achieve such a distinction. His name would be remembered, and his journey was only beginning.
A grand feast was prepared by Erin's father, a lavish celebration of his son's accomplishment. Long tables overflowed with food, golden goblets, and fruits glistening in the sunlight. The king himself attended, lending prestige to the occasion and adding to the grandeur. Laughter, music, and conversation filled every corner of the hall, mingling with the scent of roasted meats and fresh bread.
Erin lingered quietly in a corner, observing the joy around him while chatting with close friends. His thoughts drifted to the adventures that awaited. Just then, his father approached, his expression full of pride and warmth.
"I am so proud of you, my son," his father said. "Keep working hard, be kind to others, and never lose hope, no matter what challenges lie ahead."
Erin hugged him tightly, feeling the weight of the moment. "Dad, I want to explore the world and become an adventurer. I want to see this world, grow stronger, and help anyone I can. Please give me your blessing."
His father paused, searching Erin's eyes before smiling gently. "If this is truly what you desire, then go. Make your mark on the world. I will always be with you in spirit. Speak to your mother as well — you're taking a big step. Remember, if you ever need anything, we are always here for you."
Grateful, Erin thanked his father and returned to enjoy the festivities. The king's speech honored the top students, praising their achievements and inspiring all who listened. The evening glimmered with joy, music, and the echoes of laughter.
As night fell, the family gathered around the dining table. Erin shared his plans to leave and pursue adventure. Everyone agreed wholeheartedly. His mother hugged him tightly, her eyes glistening.
"I can't believe how fast time flies," she whispered. "I'm so proud of you, my son. Be safe, and come back whenever you need. We are always here for you."
They spent the night talking, laughing, and cherishing their time together. Every word, every story shared, strengthened Erin's resolve and warmed his heart.
The morning sun rose, casting a golden glow over the city. Erin said his goodbyes, packed his belongings, and stepped onto the path that would begin his journey. Though stronger than before, the lingering nightmares reminded him of his purpose. He needed to uncover the fate of Arkin and prepare for the coming battle with the Demon Lord. His goal was clear — he would become stronger, no matter the cost.
Erin traveled toward a village, venturing deeper into the forest. His destination: Riveria, home to the largest guild, a place where he could grow and learn alongside other adventurers. His heart brimmed with courage and determination.
The journey was long — a week of travel by carriage. Each passing day brought new sights: towering trees, rolling hills, and small villages bustling with daily life. Erin's excitement mingled with nervous anticipation, every mile reminding him that a larger world awaited.
Suddenly, their path was blocked by a horde of bandits. Erin's hands tightened on the reins as he prepared for battle. This time, he was ready. He stepped down from the carriage, determination blazing in his eyes.
The fight was intense. Erin moved with precision, every strike purposeful. The bandits fell one by one under his skill and strength. At the end, he bound them, ensuring justice would follow once the city guards arrived.
Night descended, and shadows stretched beneath the silver glow of the moon. Among the dark silhouettes, a familiar face emerged — Arkin, leader of the bandits.
"If I tell you, will you leave me alive?" asked the trembling man.
Arkin's eyes burned red, his aura radiating a presence so powerful it pressed down on everyone nearby. "It doesn't matter. Your lives are worthless to me. Speak or die."
One desperate bandit lunged with a sword, only to be cut down before he could reach Arkin. The leader commanded his men to charge, but their strength crumbled against Arkin's overwhelming power. One by one, they fell, blood painting the ground and fear consuming their hearts.
The leader fell to his knees, mind reeling at the sight of his fallen men. "Please! I have a family! Take all my money — just spare me!"
A heavy slash echoed. The leader's head fell at Arkin's feet.
"Hmph. Pathetic. You should have thought before harming others' families," Arkin said coldly.
Gathering his belongings, Arkin moved onward, stepping into demon territory. Villages passed beneath his shadow, and the unknown awaited him — monsters, trials, and challenges that would test his strength to the limit.
Only time would tell if Arkin would continue growing stronger or if he would finally meet his match, destroyed by a force even he could not overcome.
