Chapter 9 - it was just a accident ch-8

The café was warm and quiet, rain drizzling softly outside. Jay sat by the window with her coffee, scrolling through her phone when she noticed someone familiar sitting a few tables away.

Keifer. Alone. Earbuds in, staring blankly out the window, a half-empty cup beside him.

For a moment, Jay debated pretending she hadn't seen him. But something about the way he looked — calm, thoughtful, almost lonely — made her sigh.

She stood, walked over, and said softly, "You can join me… if you want."

Keifer blinked, clearly surprised. "What, no sarcasm? No rulebook this time?"

Jay rolled her eyes, trying to hide her smile. "Don't make me regret it."

He chuckled and followed her to her table, sitting across from her. The silence between them was awkward at first — not hostile, just strange. Two people who'd spent years fighting suddenly not knowing what to say.

Jay stirred her coffee. "Didn't think I'd ever see you alone in a place like this. What, no entourage today?"

Keifer smirked faintly. "Even I need a break from my so-called perfect social life." He paused, glancing at her. "Besides… this feels weirdly nice. Peaceful."

She hummed, smiling faintly. "Yeah. It does."

After a few quiet moments, Keifer leaned back, his tone softening. "You know… I kinda miss how things used to be."

Jay looked up, surprised. "Used to be?"

He nodded, his eyes gentle now — not teasing, not competitive, just honest. "When we were kids. No drama. No stupid rivalries. You'd drag me out to play, and I'd complain, but… those were the best days."

Jay's chest tightened. She hadn't expected him to sound so genuine. "Yeah… me too. Before we started trying to outdo each other all the time."

Keifer gave a half-smile. "Guess growing up ruined us."

She laughed softly. "Maybe not ruined. Just… made us forget."

They sat there for a while longer, quietly talking — about old games, ridiculous childhood fights, the times they'd gotten in trouble together. The awkwardness melted into something warm and familiar.

When they finally left the café, the rain had stopped. They walked side by side under the streetlights, neither quite ready to say goodbye.

As they reached the dorm entrance, Jay turned to him, smiling faintly. "That was… actually nice."

Keifer smiled back. "Yeah. Maybe we're not as bad together as we thought."

She laughed softly. "Don't get used to it."

Then, as they both stepped forward to say goodnight, Jay turned — and Keifer did too — at the same time.

Their words caught in their throats as their lips brushed.

A heartbeat.

A shock of silence.

Both froze.

Jay blinked, eyes wide. "Keifer… you—"

He stepped back instantly, flustered. "I— It was an accident. I swear."

Her cheeks were burning. "Yeah… right. An accident."

Neither of them moved for a long second, eyes locked, breaths uneven.

Then Jay cleared her throat, turning away. "Goodnight, Keifer."

"Night, Jay," he said softly, watching her disappear inside — his mind spinning, heart racing, knowing that one accidental moment had just changed everything between them.
