He had his back to a tree, full of strange orange blossoms. The petals of which danced and swirled in a distracting manner, and Koi, for a moment, happily let himself be distracted.
On one side of him was a stack of his School Books: Algebra, World History, Basic Conjuring and Exiles, Intermediate Incantations, etc. On the other side, his special reading. The giant spell book called Riconzi. Its cover and straps were encased in hard black leather. A large lock is embedded in a thick leather strap going around the book.
Not a rose petal even dares fall on the book. It had an aura that kept innocent things like that away.
Koi looked back at the line that was finally starting to lighten up. The security guard in front of was robotic, but there was a human guard standing not too far from him with his arms folded. As the students passed, he smiled and chit-chatted with those he was friendly with, and snarled at those he didn't like. He saw Ethan robesquieere in the line 3 people ahead of him getting scanned in first by the robot.
"You are in possession of a magical artifact." The Bot grumbled.
Ethan sighs hard and shifts his weight onto the other leg. Around his neck was a silver chain with a dragon with bright emerald eyes on it.
"You mean this? I didn't think this would be a problem for anyone. It's just a fucking charm."
The robot's arms swung over fast, and Ethan was pounded on the head by its hard metal fist. The boy drops to the floor.
"No cursing on school property." The robot's arm extends, and he takes the chain and breaks it off Ethan's neck.
"This is a restricted Area. No Magical artifacts are permitted beyond this point."
Ethan sighs hard, picking himself up his mouth starts to spark again, showing his rage. However, by the time he's on his feet again, the sparks have calmed. Ethan was no dummy; if he attacked any of the guards, they would just outright kill him. Machines were a lot harder than people to charm.
Ethan passes by the robotic guard and stops in front of the human guard. There was a look of defiance on his face, but he didn't say a word. The giant muscular human looks him over.
"What the hell happened to your face?" He asked, then chuckled. "I never thought I'd see the day Ethan Robespierre gets dirty."
"The dirt I have on me can get cleaned off." He smiles. "The dirt I have on you could get you fired."
The guard chuckles again, not looking intimidated, but he steps aside and lets Ethan pass.
I wonder if that boy'll ever learn. I thought to myself, and advanced in the line.
For some reason, Koi was fascinated by this boy. He was different from almost any other boy he'd ever met. The only boy that came close was Adam, strangely enough, and for two guys who seemed to have similar temperaments, he found it strange that they didn't get along most of the time. Ethan was a wizard like koi, a powerful one. However, he wasn't too interested in learning about actual magic; he was one of those guys who were somehow born with his powers and didn't appreciate them, Koi guessed. And people like that pissed Koi off. He wondered why he even helped this creep out on the tennis court today. He supposed it was only because he knew what an outright monster Adam could be and couldn't bear the thought of anyone being attached to that brat for very long. Still, he hid himself from Ethan's view while he was on the line. Something about the way Ethan had searched the crowd for the source of power had chilled him. He didn't want Ethan to find out it was him who had done it.
When Koi got back to his dorm, he pulled the shades closed, locked his doors, and got rid of as much light from the room as possible. His roommate, Deacon, liked to keep things sunny and cheerful. Koi, although being a goth, was known for being quite cheerful, but the sun sure as hell was no friend of his.
He sat on his bed and played some music from his radio and thought. Yep, today had been a pretty good day, the best day he'd had in a while, in fact. The feeling he was feeling right now was a feeling he was not used to…it was a feeling called pride. The spell he had performed today was superb, far beyond the level of most of his classmates. Plus, he'd outdone and outsmarted his rival Ethan, who probably wasn't aware of the fact that he had a rival at all. Ah, but that's okay, the competition was still good for Koi. The thought that he was getting so strong both excited and scared him. On his lap was Riconzi…his spell book. He looked down at it with some trepidation. The spell performed today was more than just a simple incantation; it was a signature spell. The signature of one of the dead wizards that was trapped inside of this book.
Taking a wizard's signature was a crime punishable by an everlasting curse, but not if the wizard or sorcerer was dead. Koi's spell book was very unique in that matter because it was like a graveyard. A graveyard filled with the souls and power of dead wizards. The book was something far beyond anything he'd ever seen, even at menzai, and it and only it could be attributed to his newly found abilities.
Koi sometimes feared what would happen to him being in possession of such a powerful tool. The fact was, however, that most of the students didn't even know such a book existed, and most of the teachers didn't seem to know either. It was his own treasure, and only he seemed to know what a treasure it was.
There was a horrific side to the book, also. And Koi's magenta eyes shone brightly even in the darkness as he turned to the page where he induced the power of the wizard who owned the butterfly disspell. The previous owner of it was a female wizard who was now buried within the page of the book, page 99. Koi knew how difficult it was to harness her power without releasing her soul altogether. On the next page was the grave of a new sorcerer, a stronger, higher-level sorcerer, and now that Koi had mastered the butterfly spell of Madam D'Orva, he was at the level where he could practice it. A new wizard named Rulan Daasraad, whose tombstone (really the title of the page) quoted that he was a kind but very eccentric wizard whose signature focused on the manipulation of blood.
Koi leaned back on the bed to read more.
The fact was, Koi wasn't even halfway finished with the spell book, but that was fine. By the time he was even near the end, he should be the most powerful wizard in all of Menzai, having surpassed his teachers and any of the other staff.
He just had to make it …till that long.
The Irony is, Koi, being a wizard, could end up being a prisoner in this very same book. He had to make sure he was truly equipped to deal with the power of each Wizard he encountered within it. That's the part that put the fear in him since there was one wizard he was quite familiar with. On the very last page, the most powerful wizard in the book was Koi's old teacher, Ketsu. Koi hungered for the day he devoured his former teacher's powers but feared the day he'd have to turn to Kets grave and confront his spirit.
Unfortunately, he and Ketsu didn't part on good terms. At all.
