Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 What She Lacks Most

"Benefactor Big Sister Bai, what are we doing?"

Hui'er was now in an oversized, loose shirt tied loosely with cloth. It was Bai Fanxian's clothing that she had stored away. She only realized when Hui'er finished bathing and was still naked just how terrible condition this child's old clothes were in.

And she herself had no children's clothing with her.

So after one day had passed, the two were now walking in the city's commercial district filled with bustling crowds.

The sight of a young woman in ancient Chinese dress walking through the commercial district with a little girl following behind became a major point of interest. But what drew people to look wasn't just the strange attire, but rather the young woman herself.

Bai Fanxian had been the supreme existence of the world ten thousand years ago. Both her appearance and complexion were so outstanding that people couldn't compare. Her every step was filled with charm and nobility that ordinary young women could never have.

"Call me 'my lady.' I'm more accustomed to that form of address."

When Bai Fanxian turned to speak with Hui'er, she revealed a faint smile at her lips with affection. But that image made the young men secretly watching melt in rows.

Many people secretly raised their phones to take photos. One young man happened to capture a shot of Bai Fanxian smiling perfectly. He quickly posted it on social media with pride.

'Walking around the commercial district, didn't expect to meet a goddess here!'

His post became extremely popular among friends. But who knew that in no time, the photo he took would be shared more and more—from hundreds to thousands, from thousands to tens of thousands.

Until now it had over fifty thousand shares!

"That woman is so beautiful..."

"Is she a celebrity? Are they filming something?"

"I want to know her name! If she's a celebrity, I'll be her fan for life!"

Chatter rose up around them periodically. Bai Fanxian, who was the center of it all, paid no attention. She merely led Hui'er along while looking left and right. Many things had changed with the times—the roads, buildings, and even the clothing worn. She realized her outfit was quite prominent compared to others.

"Hui'er, where can we find new clothes?"

Bai Fanxian found that although Hui'er was still young, she knew many things because of her own past experiences. This made Hui'er like a compass guiding Bai Fanxian's life in this era.

"My lady, we can buy new clothes at a clothing store."

Hui'er was a clever child. She changed her form of address from benefactor big sister to my lady immediately when Bai Fanxian told her.

"That means we need money, right?" Bai Fanxian wasn't stupid. She could connect many things in her head quickly and realized immediately what she lacked most right now.

Money!

Bai Fanxian had never lacked money. In her dimension, she had some treasures that she'd moved from her workshop. Previously, the dimension that could store her belongings had space of about two cubic meters. But now it had expanded to as much as 20 cubic meters.

From her observations while walking along this street, what people used to exchange for things was paper or coins she'd never seen. She also saw some people using strange cards to swipe at devices she'd never seen instead of paying cash.

She was certain that gold coins from the old days or payment with treasures would not be accepted in this era.

"Yes." Hui'er answered dimly. Money was the thing she'd never had most in her previous life.

"Then let's go look over there."

The place Bai Fanxian pointed to was a two-story building located in an alley that not many people paid attention to. It was an herbal medicine shop. But what could truly attract Bai Fanxian was that inside were cultivators.

And there were as many as five of them.

Since arriving in this city, her heaven sense had swept throughout. What surprised her was that the number of cultivators she could sense was much fewer than expected. Among ordinary people, there were hardly any cultivators mixed in. Different from yesterday when she sensed those many cultivators on the mountain.

And they still lived like ordinary people.

That day, thousands of cultivators had gathered.

What happened during these ten thousand years? Why had the number of cultivators decreased so disappointingly?

And the power level she could sense from each person—not one had power exceeding Grandmaster level.

Bai Fanxian waved her hand lightly. A small cloth bundle appeared in her hand. She handed it to Hui'er to hold with both hands. Though it was a large bundle, it wasn't heavy. A child like Hui'er could hold it comfortably just by cradling it with both arms.

Yesterday she had explained to Hui'er all about the world of cultivators and the matter of her being someone from ten thousand years ago. She'd also shown her many things until the little girl gasped in amazement. After all, she'd taken this child in to live together, so she didn't think to keep troublesome secrets.

And whether because she was still a child or because of Hui'er's cleverness, she accepted it extremely quickly and looked at her lady with eyes sparkling even more than before. Knowing her lady had lived for over ten thousand years probably made Bai Fanxian's existence seem like a god in her eyes.

And she was excited about everything she saw Bai Fanxian do yesterday. Though she'd only been organizing things and checking materials remaining in that room.

But the sight of ingredients in the room floating about and disappearing into thin air must have been truly novel for people of this era.

Back to before entering the shop, Bai Fanxian could sense turbulent qi currents surging from inside the shop. It seemed a clash was about to occur inside.

Bai Fanxian paid no attention whatsoever and opened the shop door, with Hui'er carrying the white cloth bundle following behind.

If an existence like her still had to worry about such puny power levels, it would be too shameful.

Before her was a large medicine shop filled with herbs stored properly on shelves along the walls. Directly in front of her was a counter where an old man who seemed to be the shop owner was standing up facing a group of 4 people.

The four people were cultivators—one 5th-stage Martial Master, one 2nd-stage Martial Master, and two 10th-stage Cultivators.

They looked like military or agency personnel, judging from their attire and the silver wing symbol on their chests.

When Bai Fanxian appeared, both sides turned to look at once. Seeing it was a seemingly ordinary young woman with a little girl walking in, the person who seemed to be the group's leader waved his hand lightly as if withdrawing. They passed Bai Fanxian and left the shop, with one of his subordinates turning to look at the shop owner and Bai Fanxian with annoyance.

The shop owner showed no fearful attitude. He merely sighed softly and picked up the herbs on the table to put away.

"...Hello, young lady. Is there anything I can help with?"

The shop owner, a kind-looking old man, greeted Bai Fanxian politely after finishing putting things away.

"...Does this place buy herbs?"

Bai Fanxian asked straightforwardly. This was her purpose for setting foot in this place.

Though her Alchemy Palace was gone, the herbs stored in her workshop and storage dimension were still there. This meant she currently had many rare ingredients and herbs with her.

Though it was regrettable that some parts hadn't developed into ten-thousand-year herbs because they'd been pulled from the soil to be preserved from the start. If all the herbs had still been planted like those thousand-year ginsengs, by the day she woke up, it would have been more joyful.

The old man looked slightly surprised. Though he thought the herbs the young woman brought to sell probably wouldn't be very valuable, he still spoke politely.

"We do. But ordinary herbs don't fetch much of a price." He spoke honestly.

"...Mm." Bai Fanxian nodded in understanding. She pointed to herbs sitting on the shelf.

"How much is that 50-year ginseng?"

What she pointed to was a well-wrapped box. It seemed it had just arrived recently and the shop owner hadn't gotten around to storing it yet.

But Bai Fanxian's question surprised the shop owner. He walked over to pick up the tightly sealed wooden box and brought it to place open on the table.

"This ginseng is at least 1.8 million yuan. This just arrived this morning. Someone's already reserved it."

Its price made little Hui'er startle. From initially being interested in the strange things in the shop, she became too afraid to budge for fear of damaging anything.

"...Hui'er, is that a lot?" Bai Fanxian asked the stiffened little girl.

"...My lady, grilled meat costs 5 yuan per stick." Little Hui'er didn't know what to compare it to. She could only use the grilled meat she'd seen as a standard.

"I understand."

Bai Fanxian nodded. If that grilled meat cost 5 yuan per stick, she could roughly estimate prices of things in this era.

That meant 1.8 million yuan should be enough for general expenses comfortably, right?

Bai Fanxian turned to Hui'er.

"Put the cloth bundle on the table."

"Yes!"

Hui'er responded vigorously. She lifted the bundle in her hands to place carefully on the table. This was the first task her lady gave her. The little girl was therefore extremely attentive and absolutely wouldn't allow anything to go wrong.

Bai Fanxian unwrapped the cloth bundle, then reached in to take something out.

"I have a hundred-year ginseng. Will you buy it?"

What Bai Fanxian took out was a yellowish-brown ginseng. The root area protruding out twisted in spirals. When placed on the table, one could feel a stream of natural power.

This was normal for herbs grown from the earth. They would absorb heaven and earth energy. The older they were, the more valuable. If it were thousand-year herbs, even ordinary people could feel the energy current when touching it.

The old man was now filled with shock. He jumped up. Both hands wanted to pick up this herb to examine, but another part feared damaging it. So he could only stammer awkwardly like that.

"Check it."

Hearing permission, the old man rushed in to look like a child getting a toy. He gently grasped the ginseng stem. Feeling the faint energy current it emitted further confirmed this ginseng was real.

At minimum it was a hundred years old!

"Are you really selling this ginseng, young lady?"

The old man asked uncertainly. One should know that for herbs like this, especially ginseng this age, it could be something that could save its owner's life in crisis. Because the heaven and earth energy accumulated in it could heal or even extend the life of whoever consumed it.

Bai Fanxian nodded without hesitation. After all, she still had a number of hundred and thousand-year ginsengs stored in her dimension. Taking some out to sell didn't make her feel troubled in the slightest.

This didn't count the ten-thousand-year ginsengs planted in those fields.

"How much will you buy it for?"

The old man who heard the question paused to think for a moment. After all, he was a merchant who naturally wanted some profit. But when he glanced at the young woman who owned this herb, he could sense something mysterious.

And her attitude of not caring at all as if this hundred-year ginseng were a turnip made him interested in this young woman.

"...Ten million yuan. Are you satisfied with this price, young lady?"

The old man decided to tell her a fair price. Though he could resell this hundred-year ginseng, he'd probably only profit about one to two million yuan not including operation and storage costs. Offering to buy it for ten million was already very fair.

Bai Fanxian glanced at the shop owner's eyes and nodded easily.

"Then give me your bank account, young lady. I'll transfer it."

"..."

"...?"
