Chapter 21 - Evacuating the School

With a roar, the van instantly sped out!

Leaving behind countless figures of Zombies giving chase.

Legs naturally could not outrun four wheels; the van quickly left those Zombies far behind.

Wang Zhi rammed into Zombies coming from the opposite direction along the way, the vehicle occasionally jolting and crushing over the infected bodies.

"Hoo~ Captain Wang, you really scared us to death. If we had been a few minutes slower, that horde of Zombies would have buried the few of us," Fatty said, panting heavily.

"Fortune is sought through risk. With this vehicle, the road ahead will be much easier," Wang Zhi stated.

Besides the driver and front passenger seats, the van had ten seats in the back. The four of them would each take one, meaning the remaining twenty-four people would all have to squeeze into the eight remaining seats. Seats would definitely be insufficient, but there was enough space; whether squatting or lying down, they could definitely force everyone in.

Wang Zhi drove quickly back to the base of the Sports Building. The sound of the engine attracted some Zombies, but not too many.

Compared to the constant stream of Zombies pouring out of the Office Building earlier, this manageable number was quite easy to handle.

At this moment, the students on the Rooftop were also crouched down on the edge, watching them nervously.

The few explosions just now had unsettled them.

Wang Zhi turned off the engine and got out of the car. After dealing with the Zombies that followed them, he returned to the Rooftop with the other three.

Seeing that the group had successfully acquired the car, the students were much happier than usual because this vehicle could take them away from here!

After distributing the food, Wang Zhi went over to the group and began eating.

Wang Zhi had noticed the fuel gauge earlier; this car had only 30 kilometers of fuel left. Since their Extraction Point was 60 kilometers away in the suburbs of S City, they would need to refuel midway.

Wang Zhi took out the map again and looked for nearby gas stations, marking one location in the suburbs. The city center was densely populated, so there would naturally be many Zombies.

After eating, Wang Zhi took stock of their remaining ammunition. After that last wave, Wang Zhi and his three companions had less than 400 rounds left in total. As long as no large-scale battle occurred, these 300-plus rounds would be sufficient.

If they could successfully reach the suburbs tomorrow, the rest of the journey would be much easier. After all, the suburbs were sparsely populated, and few Zombies would appear there.

Thinking this, Wang Zhi immediately felt much more relaxed. He stood up and walked over to the cluster of students to chat quietly.

"Students, we must set out tomorrow to escape this place! Dangers on the road are inevitable, so everyone must stick together! Follow our instructions. I hope every one of you can safely reach the shelter. Get some rest early; we leave at first light."

Inside the Dawn Tower...

"Tower Master, a second team has accepted an assignment to go outside," Jie Xi reported, standing to the side of the Tower Master.

"Which team is it?" the Tower Master asked, looking up.

"Reporting to the Tower Master, it is the Former Dynasty."

"Oh? That Level Three Team?"

"Precisely."

"Hmm. How about the first team that went out?"

"Reporting to the Tower Master, according to the Magnetic Card location tracking, all targets are active. We assess there are no casualties."

"Interesting. You may return now." After speaking, the Tower Master lowered her head and continued looking at the documents on the desk.

October 4th, 2025. Sunny.

As dawn broke, Fatty and Old He, who had stood guard for the latter half of the night, woke everyone up.

In truth, nobody had slept much; in this environment, the slightest disturbance would immediately wake them.

The group organized their supplies and began gradually moving them into the vehicles.

Soon, the vehicles were packed with students, two per seat. The remaining 8 people were squatting to one side.

"Students, no matter what happens or what you encounter on the road, you must stay inside the vehicle and must not make a sound. If someone speaks out, the person next to them is ordered to knock them unconscious or cover their mouth," Wang Zhi instructed the group while turning back to them.

After speaking, he took out his notebook and instantly unlocked the power using the secret key saved from yesterday.

"Alright, let's depart!"

Along the way, the noise generated by the vehicle attracted the Zombies on the roadside, and the Zombies crazily chasing after the car kept pursuing them.

The students crammed in the back were all terrified, clinging to each other and trembling.

The four-person plan was to use the north gate of the campus as the exit, then proceed northwards, which would allow them to reach the vicinity of that sparsely populated gas station.

On the road, because the vehicle was severely overloaded, Wang Zhi did not dare to turn sharply, fearing they might overturn.

They could only rely on the other three to lean out of the windows to shoot and clear the Zombies ahead, preventing the Zombies from colliding with and damaging the vehicle.

"Look quickly! There are people on the rooftop!" Fatty suddenly exclaimed, spotting a group of survivors on a roof.

Wang Zhi paused upon hearing this; he hadn't expected anyone else to have survived, but regretfully, they were in no condition to stop and rescue anyone.

With this thought, Wang Zhi continued to concentrate on driving, avoiding collisions with Zombies coming from the front.

Seeing that Wang Zhi had no intention of stopping, Fatty did not speak again.

Upon reaching the north gate, the hood of the van was already dented and misshapen from collisions, and Wang Zhi and his team had expended nearly a hundred rounds of ammunition.

Bang! The minivan crashed through the gate barrier at the north entrance.

Once outside the school, the number of Zombies on the road was clearly greater than inside, and there were occasional large patches of bloodstains and corpses on the ground.

Vehicles were also stopped haphazardly across the road, and the entire street was frighteningly silent.

Wang Zhi spotted a convenience store nearby. Almost nothing inside had been touched. To be honest, he was tempted.

If they could move all the supplies from this store back, it would be quite a haul. After having this thought, he secretly shook his head; they had to evacuate quickly now, or their lives would be in danger.

"Bad news! The road ahead is blocked by Zombies!"

Old He said, looking ahead through his binoculars.

"Huh? Should we try another route?" Fatty panicked upon hearing this.

"No! I'm not sure about the conditions on the other road. Old He, take this."

As Wang Zhi spoke, he handed his grenade from his waist over to Old He.

Having said that, Wang Zhi stomped on the accelerator again, weaving through the Zombies.

Seeing that they were about to reach the horde, Old He pulled the pin and threw it forcefully toward the front!

The grenade landed in the middle of the Zombie cluster.

*Boom!*

The grenade let out a loud explosion among the group of Zombies!

Wang Zhi couldn't worry about anything else; he slammed the accelerator to the floor and charged toward the spot just blasted open.

Countless Zombies slammed into the front of the car. The windshield had already shattered into a spiderweb pattern and was splattered with sticky blood.

Fortunately, given the weight of the vehicle, they forcibly broke through the Zombie horde.

But he could no longer see the road ahead because the glass was completely ruined.
