Chapter 4: The Awakening of Kings
From the novel "Vampires vs Zombies: The War Begins"
The world burned.
Cities turned into graves, the air thick with smoke and screams. Lightning cracked through crimson clouds as the undead tore through the streets.
But above the chaos — two figures stood between fire and blood.
Riven and Kael.
Once mere mortals. Now the chosen heirs of two ancient empires that had slept for a thousand years — the Empire of Blood and the Empire of Shadows.
The prophecy whispered it long ago:
> "When the moon bleeds and the sun falls, two kings shall rise from the ashes of man."
Now, that time had come.
---
Riven clenched his fists, his veins pulsing with blue fire. His scythes floated around him, spinning like living blades. Every heartbeat echoed with the roar of unseen power.
Kael's eyes turned pitch black, his pupils glowing with a golden flame. Shadows rippled beneath his feet like a living sea.
"Do you feel it too?" Riven asked, his voice trembling with energy.
Kael smirked. "It's like the darkness finally remembers me."
Suddenly, the ground cracked open. From the fissures crawled monstrous zombies — their bodies fused with mechanical parts, their roars shaking the ruins. Human survivors screamed, running for their lives.
Kael's shadow spread across the battlefield, devouring the sunlight. "They'll destroy everything."
Riven's grin was sharp. "Then we destroy them first."
He raised his hand — and the wind around him exploded into blue lightning. The scythes shot forward, carving through dozens of undead in one sweep. Every strike sent shockwaves that split buildings apart.
Kael followed, his blade glowing with dark crimson fire. He slashed through the monsters, each movement faster than the eye could follow.
Then it happened.
The moon turned blood-red. The sky split open with a thunderous scream — and two ancient emblems burned into the heavens:
☽ The Crest of the Vampire King.
☀ The Mark of the Shadow Lord.
Power surged through their bodies, ancient energy that had slept for centuries roaring back to life.
Riven fell to one knee as blue veins glowed across his skin. "What… is this power?"
Kael looked down at his trembling hand — the shadows obeyed him completely, swirling like loyal soldiers. "The awakening…"
Their memories flooded back — the thrones they once ruled, the empires that worshiped them, the war that sealed them for a thousand years.
They weren't born into this world.
They were reborn.
Kael raised his sword high, and the shadows around him rose like a living army. "I am Kael, King of the Shadows — ruler of the void between life and death!"
Riven slammed his scythes into the ground as blue lightning stormed through the city. "And I am Riven, King of Blood and Storms — the vampire who commands the sky!"
Their voices echoed like thunder.
The ground itself bowed.
The undead froze.
The apocalypse trembled.
From that moment — the true rulers of darkness had returned.
And the world would never forget the night the Kings Awakened.
