Chapter 144 - The Plan

Eichi followed Tetsu's gaze. In a corner, a group of Pokémon was gathered. They were Snorunt. Snorunt is a small, black Pokémon with an egg-shaped body, round hands without fingers, and feet without toes. It has blue eyes and a downturned mouth. Its mouth and typical appearance give Snorunt an expression that suggests it's fighting a chill. Its body is covered by a yellow, conical cloak with an orange trim. On the back of the cloak are three orange, diamond-shaped patches. Around them were also a few Glalie.

Eichi told Tetsu, "The one covered by the cloak is Snorunt, an Ice-type Pokémon. The one that looks like a rock is Snorunt's evolution, Glalie."

"Snorunt and Glalie," Tetsu said excitedly. "Glalie is so cool."

"What, you've set your sights on Snorunt?" Eichi asked.

"Yes, Glalie is too cool," Tetsu replied.

"By the way," Eichi said, "I forgot to tell you that Snorunt has two possible evolutions."

"Two?" Tetsu asked. "What's the other one?"

Eichi explained, "Snorunt's two evolutions are related to its gender. A male Snorunt, upon reaching a certain level, can evolve into Glalie. A female Snorunt, upon reaching a certain level and using a Dawn Stone, can evolve into Froslass."

"Froslass?" Tetsu questioned. "Why haven't I seen any?"

Eichi looked around and said, "There. Froslass has arrived."

In their line of sight, a few all-white Pokémon whose bodies resembled a kimono were floating in mid-air.

"So that's Froslass?" Tetsu said. "It looks quite beautiful. Eichi, I want to catch one."

Eichi activated his Eye of the Bug Emperor. In his eyes, the Glalie and Froslass were all at the Experienced Trainer Rank. One Glalie and one Froslass had already reached the Elite Trainer Rank. In particular, there was one Glalie that was much larger than the others; this Glalie was likely their leader and had reached the peak of the Elite Trainer Rank.

Eichi then told Tetsu, "Glalie and Froslass have pretty good species potential, so choosing them is the right move. However, I've checked, and the levels of these Glalie and Froslass have all reached the Experienced Trainer Rank. The leading Glalie and Froslass have even reached the Elite Trainer Rank. Trying to catch them isn't very realistic. You should just aim for a Snorunt."

"I know that," Tetsu replied. "Help me check which Snorunt has a low level but good talent."

Eichi nodded and began scanning all the Snorunt around them. These Snorunt all had very high potential, with many being of Excellent Talent Grade. However, most of them had already reached the Experienced Trainer Rank.

"Found one!" Eichi finally located three Snorunt with Outstanding Talent Grade. However, two of them were already at the Experienced Trainer Rank and looked close to evolving. That left only one Snorunt. This Snorunt was at the Rookie Trainer Rank, making it very suitable. This particular Snorunt was currently asleep.

Eichi pointed to this Snorunt and said to Tetsu, "That one. I've looked closely; its potential is very good."

"Okay," Tetsu said. "That's our target. But how do I get close to it?"

"With this group of Glalie and Froslass here, we can't approach at all," Eichi stated.

"So what should we do?" Tetsu asked.

"Don't panic," Eichi replied. "Let me think. Don't just stand there; use your own brain, too."

The two thought for a while. Eichi started observing the surrounding terrain and even stood up to walk around briefly. After walking for a bit, he came back. "I have a plan."

"What is it?" Tetsu quickly asked.

"Hold on," Eichi said. "Wait for me to make something."

He put down his backpack, pulled out a stone bowl, and then took out a box. Opening the box, it contained various Berries. Eichi took out one Berry and mashed it, then another, and mashed it, repeating this until he had mashed four different kinds of Berries. He then took out a bag of Pokémon food and poured it into the stone bowl.

Tetsu was very curious about what Eichi was doing but held back from asking so as not to interrupt him. Once Eichi finished, Tetsu immediately asked, "Eichi, what are you making?"

"I thought of a way," Eichi said.

"What way?" Tetsu asked.

Eichi pointed at the Glalie. "In a moment, I'll take my Pokémon and lead those Glalie and Froslass away. It's a good thing their dwelling is somewhat secluded; no other Pokémon will wander over for a while. Once I lure them away, you take this thing I made to tempt that Snorunt and draw it to a secluded corner, then quickly catch it."

"Are you sure this stuff in the bowl will lure the Snorunt?" Tetsu asked.

"This is lethally attractive to Ice-type Pokémon," Eichi assured him. "Don't worry! When I lead them away, you immediately go and lure the Snorunt. We'll meet at the cave entrance afterward. Got it?"

Tetsu nodded. "Understood. You be careful, too."

"Don't worry," Eichi replied.

The Glalie clan was resting in a secluded corner, somewhat distant from other Pokémon groups. Suddenly, one person and three Pokémon darted out from a corner. The person commanded the three Pokémon to launch an attack on the Snorunt. The Glalie leader instantly became enraged and commanded all the Glalie and Froslass to use the move Protect to shield the Snorunt. Green barriers appeared around the Snorunt, blocking the Pin Missile from Beedrill and Scizor, and the Bullet Seed from Heracross, successfully protecting all the Snorunt.

The Glalie leader then commanded all the Glalie and Froslass to attack the intruder. Seeing this, the person fled, taking the three Pokémon with him. All the Glalie and Froslass pursued, continuously firing Ice Beam attacks.

The person commanding the Pokémon to attack the Snorunt was, of course, Eichi. After all the Glalie and Froslass had chased him out, only two Glalie and one Froslass remained. These three Pokémon vigilantly watched their surroundings to prevent further intruders.

This is bad, Tetsu thought to himself. These three Pokémon are watching too closely. They'll notice the slightest movement. Tetsu thought for a moment and released Noctowl.

"Noctowl," Tetsu instructed, "in a moment, I want you to attack them and distract them. Understand?"

Noctowl nodded to indicate that it understood. "Alright, go," Tetsu said.

Noctowl spread its wings, let out a long cry, and flew into the air. The long cry immediately drew the attention of the three remaining Pokémon. The three Pokémon began to attack the intruder. Perfect. Tetsu's goal was achieved, and it was time for him to act.
